My wife is a dressmaker by trade specialising in Wedding attire and a very good one

She said that she is going to make me pin covers for my pins. She hasn't finalised the idea yet whether it would be throwover, zipped or magnets etc. Plenty of options.

Fabric could be specified so black out, canvas, whatever.

Could even put some sort of armour in ones that are required for transporting pins.

Just putting it out there that if she were to start making them, would there be any interest for people to buy them?

    Cheers

    #2 7 years ago

I'd be interested. Of course, it would all depend on cost and shipping...

    #3 7 years ago

Cool. She's going to start in one tonight in black canvas.

It's two piece for the back box and body with Velcro.

I'll let her get it sorted and work out the price in NZD so it would be less in USD. Shipping would be as pricey as how fast you would want them. Tracked snail mail would take a few weeks but heaps cheaper. I'll get back to you once I know more

    Cheers

Would seem to be a market opportunity with these, given Andras' disappearance.

As I was looking into this as well, heres the competition:

ebay.com link: Pinball Machine Dust Cover Choose your Size

ebay.com link: STANDARD SIZE DUST COVER PROTECTOR FOR PINBALL MACHINE COVER

Starting at $40 with shipping....I dont have any feedback on this,

    but worth noting.....

UV Protection may be a better route, as these appear to start at $89.

I share this with the intent that the best solution for all might be available.

    Best wishes.

I'd be interested. They have some on Marco that are great, except for the fact that their cheaply made and fall apart. If your wife could make something similar, but more durable I think you'd sell a bunch....

    Oh they certainly would be.

She has an industrial overlocker (similar to the stitching in an overlocked wetsuit).

She's cracking into a blackout canvas one tonight to get a feel on it, measure up the JP and sort out design and pattern

She wants to talk about it tonight. May do a few different types such as:

    UV protected

    Heavy duty canvas

Heavy duty canvas with padding or armour for protecting pins for transport

Light dust cover - (UV blackout lined optional for extra cost)

Possibly could be made to order in a variety of colours. There's no reason why if anyone had bespoke requests that they couldn't be done for an added charge upon discussion of what's needed.

Very much in in it's infancy but thanks for the help and the interest

I think she might start looking to do Arcade cabinet covers too but one thing at a time

    #8 7 years ago

Interested ... 2 standard 1 wide body ...UVA protected

    #9 7 years ago

I'd be interested. I have dust covers on my games from Jabetc but I'm looking for thicker material for sun protection so black out would be great.

    #10 7 years ago

+1 interested please PM me when everything is sorted out. thx

    #11 7 years ago

    Im interested

    #12 7 years ago
    Quoted from rooky79:

    Heavy duty canvas with padding

I was thinking a canvas one would be cool and unique, but would need some type of softer liner for those who have cleared their cabinet to minimize scratching.

    #13 7 years ago

The current ones that sell for $40 are mainly dust covers, as they let light/uv through. So anything better than that would be of interest.

    Hey Guys,

So I talked to Michelle last night and she was researching designs.

The first prototype will be a two piece. One for the back box and one for the body, all connected up with Velcro. All double stitched and possibly overlocked for added strength

She will make the first one and then work out the material cost, hours and a little mark up so it's worth her time

I asked her about shipping as she is more clued up than me. She said that is completely up to you guys on how fast it would be depending on how much you would want to pay

She's also looking at tooling so she can cut five patterns out at a time.

She would probably start slow. Just accept a few orders at a time so she can get it down pat and then away she goes.

I have to say there's been quite a bit of interest on here, aussie arcade and facebook.

I guess once she has done the first one, I will post a video and pics.

For the guys who would want a softer lining, that would have to be discussed with her when ordering what you need

I suppose just watch this space

    #15 7 years ago

Ill take 2 wide body and 2 standard please:

UV blackout of course mainly for indoor use

    #16 7 years ago

I'm in. Try and replicate what Andras was doing. Expect better communication

    #17 7 years ago

I have my new GB Premium set up in the garage, and am most certainly interested in a dust cover type....depending on price/shipping.

I've seen some advertised on the web, but after reading reviews, most seem to be pretty cheaply made. I've also see some covers manufactured for storage, with all sorts of velcro and used mostly for storage/shipping, with the backbox being lowered. I need a cover that can be easily removed and put back on (for the wife and kids to do without me being there).

    Please keep me/this thread posted.

    Thanks

    DtF

    #18 7 years ago

Yes, yes, and yes! Would be interested in some wide and normal ones.

    #19 7 years ago

I would be interested in a uv blackout single wide for my Met Pro. Keep me up to date on cost and availability. Thx!

    #20 7 years ago

Can't wait to see pics. I would be interested in 4 standard and 2 wide bodies if price is right

    #21 7 years ago

We are definitely in! Please let us know when you have some samples. We are in Aus so nice and close!

    #22 7 years ago

Watching with interest. I'd prefer something like neoprene or other padding for transporting, too.

    #23 7 years ago

    Agreed, interested, thread favorited

    #24 7 years ago

    Also watching with interest!

Interested in a standard with UV black out if you decide to move forward with these! (and the cost is reasonable of course)

    #26 7 years ago

I'm curious on what the cover would protect? If it's just a cover for dust, I might pass. If it's a cover for patio, that's a different story.

    #27 7 years ago

I will buy a standard Stern size. I would want something soft inside to keep from scratching the game, and tough enough outside to keep the accidental dings from happening. Velcro fastening is a great idea.

    #28 7 years ago

Interested... Mainly to protect the machines from our cats!

    JJP widebody & Stern standard.

    #29 7 years ago

    Hey everyone,

    Again thanks for the interest.

We've had a bit of a tough time lately but a sick baby (life gets in the way), but Michelle finally started on the pinball cover.

This has been made with a grey, soft hard wearing canvas material that will not scratch games. All double stitched for extra strength

The back box cover opens at the front as a single flap that binds with Velcro. Simply throw it over and pull the front over and Velcro.

The body cover is one sleeve that slides to the back and connects to the back box cover with Velcro.

    It's a great little cover.

    Now for the bad news.

After taking into account fabric and time (approx 5-6 hours); to make it worth her while, Michelle worked out that the cover would cost around $177 NZD

So she is now looking into ways to reduce that cost I.e equipment that she can cut 7 at a time which would drop the cost heaps.

Stay tuned for more updates. This one in the pictures is the prototype

    Cheers

Your target price has to be around $69 USD for close fitting UV blackout fabric in black.

    #31 7 years ago
    #32 7 years ago

Love the enthusiasm but the thing already exists as an item in the $50USD range (at least here in the US). There is also a heavier duty product from another company as well (at a higher cost but the name of it escapes me at the moment)...

Please take this as constructive feedback from a potential customer at the price listed above:

I would want them to fit more snugly than that with seams that line up nicely with the edges etc. It should look nice and neat and 'tight' to get my order at that price.

If you have the equipment, consider offering embroidery for an additional charge. Initials, names, logo whatever.

That wouldn't be the final price. We can get the price down from that and we are looking at options to do so without compromising quality

The one in the pics above was measured for a DE JP so that's why it looks baggy on the Stern. On the JP, it fits nice and snug

We won't be offering embroidery as an option

I was amazed at that comment that he left. I wasn't even insulted, just shocked at first and then started cracking up laughing. I looked that anylopor or whatever his name was and he's in Hungary and I'm in New Zealand.

Perhaps this fella thinks they are one and the same? I dunno

My understanding is that these covers (and the other $50 or so ones on flebay) do not offer any sort of significant UV protection. I would think you could charge $80-$100 quite comfortably for one that did (just my 2c).

Huh... I would think anything black and opaque would block UV light...

What special steps does it take to block UV then?

Special UV blocking fabric, it costs a bit more.
Thats why I think a price of $69.99 is achievable for total UV blackout.

Interested for about 10 covers in UV blackout, I can't believe there's no one selling quality covers after all of these years. Having blankets and sheets thrown over my games is becoming an eyesore and putting the other half off and as the games multiply throughout the house

Putting into account the hours of hand drawn patterns depending on the machine type, patterns cut, then sewn on the industrial machine and the UV blackout fabric elevated cost and Velcro. There's no way at this point that $69.99 is possible at all.

This is why she's looking into ways to cut out multiple patterns at one time. So for instance instead of cutting out each by hand, she's found a place that will cut 10 at a time which cuts down costs and drives down the price of the overall product.

Problem we're having at the moment is our young son who is taking up most of our time so god knows if this will even happen for a while yet

Once you get a proven prototype of all of you designs, contact Homepin and see if he has an ideas on inexpensive assembly in China.

I have purchased these, which are the same ones on Marco. These fall apart quickly at the seams and are too small to properly fit Williams machines. Mine went into the trash before I could figure out if it fits on Stern.
