I had 4 of these on order for a Seawitch Restoration I am about to start.

I have seen some complaints in other threads that there are issues with binding both in the mech below the PF as well as the flipper bat rubbing on the upper side of the PF. Before I saw those threads this was a total no brainer. 52.95 for the whole assembly that includes the bushing and coil vs. 54.95 for a rebuild kit that does not. In my case the coils are all mismatched so it made even more sense. i have two questions

Have you run into these issues?

Do you know if these complete mechs are using the same exact parts from the rebuild kits? I have used those plenty and they are great. If they are the same I will just part out these new mechs and use the old base plates.

I've only had binding issues when trying to mix parts from different manufacturers. Eg, the pinball life bats were too thick for the pinball resource bushings.

interesting because i have bats from pbr on order also. that hasn't shipped yet so maybe i should cancel those and get PBL bats as I want it to fit properly and not be sloppy.

I wasn't aware pbr had Stern bats. Thought pbl was custom making those?

My bad on the kits. For 49.95 you get both sides.

Those aren't the correct bats. Stern has their own types that are narrower.

I ordered a few of those today but from my experience the ones with the grooves that the set screws need to line up with cause some binding issues. Granted they are usually the originals and are all f'd up to begin with.

It's probably hard to say if there's an issue or not, because I'm sure some people are assembling via an assortment of parts from PBR, PL, Marco, etc...

All I can say from experience is that I purchase Bally flipper parts/kits from PBR, and classic Stern flipper parts/kits from Pinball life. The classic stern bats from pinball life are short in length, but they do have the screw groove in the shaft. I added a #14 brass washer between the flipper & the bushing to ensure no scraping of the playfield. I like the way they flip, good & strong, no binding. It's a completely new assembly.

I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to the bats. I think it's wrong if you put bally bats on a Stern & vise versa IMO.

Hey Ben yeah I think it was your thread that had the complaints about those on it. I've ordered a selection of stuff and will figure out what works best for my next job. There will be plenty of flipper work. The thing is a mess and every single flipper coil is different. Heard back from CPR BTW. As you mentioned it looks like a bunch of cheetah PF's are coming in and i won't have an issue getting one. Good thing because i have a cheetah and and Ali being picked up friday. I'll have to restore the Ali PF myself it looks like. That's ok I will have plenty to practice on starting with the leftover SW PF.

i have used at least a dozen of those kit, and have had only the occasional issue. Like it was said, it is worth adding a small washer between bat and bushing though i haven't done it on most game and it is fine. Making sure the L bracket is raised/bent so the plunger doesn't push through is a good one as well.

Once i had an issue where it was just weak due to some resistance somewhere, i assume it was a slightly larger plunger defect, replaced that part and it was fine.

I only use Stern appropriate bats with my assembly.
