Normally during the Chicago Expo event we hold our annual open house, inviting everyone out to our warehouse to enjoy pinball, food, drink and conversation with fellow pinheads from around the world.

For obvious reasons this will not be happening this year.

However, the show discounts we normally offer at our open house will be made available to everyone via our website from Wednesday, October 14th through Saturday, October 17th.

Simply enter the discount code EXPO2020 during checkout to receive this discount!

This coupon code will not apply to purchases made prior to 10/14/2020 or after 10/17/2020. No rainchecks.

Please do not show up in person, this is not an open house. Our warehouse is closed to the public for the duration of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Very cool of you to do. One of a multitude of reasons you have so many dedicated customers

Terry- Had plans to finally make it to expo and your fabulous event that Ive only enjoyed through pictures for many years.
    Next year it is!!!
Thank you for the discount. Few things I need and want.

    #4 3 years ago

one of the highlights of going to the expo show, sad to miss it.

    #5 3 years ago

Really appreciate your keeping the tradition going. Hope to visit with you next year!

    #6 3 years ago

Yeah, it is a shame that we are not having an actual open house this year, but here it to hoping for next year! This just gives us more time to build and program the laser light shows. Terry, can you get me another laser? jk jk!

Haven't had much interest in Expo the last couple years, but Terry's open house is a must! I'm going to miss everyone this year!

I love going to the Friday open house followed by Expo (with a Superdawg stop as well!). I will really miss going this year but let’s hope for bigger things next year! Thanks for doing this sale even though I just bought a bunch last week! Lol

    #10 3 years ago

Thank you for doing this! I’m really going to miss going to Chicago Expo and the PBL open house this year. Hopefully we will be able to go back in 2021!

D'oh! Just sent in an order yesterday! Wah-wah!

(But thanks for doing this, perhaps I can find something else...)

Don't feel bad I have two orders in but I always need stuff so it doesn't phase me one way or the other. I'll probably just order a little heavier when the window of opportunity arrives.

    Terry,
I re-read this post 4-6 times ... and still can't figure out what the discount code is exactly.
Is it a percent off store wide? Or on specific products?
Are you not releasing that info until the actual sale?

I also see that due to USPS issues; you are only shipping via ups and/or fedex. How much more expensive is shipping via those companies?

It's not bad. I just placed a Pinball Life order Sunday that was in a large, relatively heavy box (included a set of Stern service rails and a shaker motor kit) and shipping UPS was $11.95. I could have also chosen Fedex ground at checkout, it was $1 or two more.
PBL and UPS on it as usual, since my order arrived already yesterday.

It is the same discount that Terry gives people when they came to the open houses prior. It is not a % off, it is best explained as customized discounted prices on almost every product. If you have been to the open house in the past to buy parts, you have gotten this discount before!

    I'm even more confused now.

Let’s start with “Thanks Terry”. With everything going on it’s nice that you take care of your customers.

Best explanation is it’s a sale for us, it’s house cleaning for Terry. He knows his margins and if it’s something he is trying to reduce stock or it’s a slow moving part, you might get a bigger discount. Say he has a limited run plastic protector set, instead of having it on the shelf for another year, give a bigger discount and move it down the road and free up some shelf space. Trust everyone who has been to the open house. Terry takes very good care of us!

    This guy gets it!

Thank you goes to Terry indeed. This discount structure has never before been given through the website and is going to be open to everyone no matter where you live next week. This used to be an exclusive "in person" only discount. Obviously, shipping still applies to your order.

It is really rad that Terry is opening this up to everyone for a short time (October 14th - 17th).

The discounts will variy depending on the product. Virtually every part will be discounted, but not at the same rate.
Exact discounts on each item will not be revealed until the coupon code goes live.
As for shipping options; we are not currently using USPS, they are a shit show at the moment. We have negotiated VERY good rates with both UPS and FedEx. Sure, one pound of product is going to cost you around $10 to ship, but 5 or 10 pounds will generally only add a few bucks (depending on the size of the items).

I’ve been happy with shipping those leg sets recently. We’ve been grabbing some of those blem sets and the whole order is at my door for under $40!

Zitt and others: Look up posts from past open houses to get an idea of the show discounts. Very good deals to be had on all kinds of items.

Thanks for the virtual event, Terry!

Thanks a ton Terry! I've got a wishlist of goodies I've been holding off on. Will you have any classic Bally lockdown bars when this goes down?

Unfortunately, probably not. This item will eventually be back in stock, but there have been a couple manufacturing delays beyond our control.

I was looking to order a cgc shaker. Looks like I know when and from whom that will be!

Terry has always been amazing. He is one of my earliest pinball collecting memories. Great guy to do business with. Of course I doubt anyone here isn't familiar with him and his business by now, but if you ARE new and reading this: pinball life is great!

Terry, I am going to take your silence as "No, Scott, you cannot have another laser, we already have more than enough".

Just a reminder that our *Open House That's Not An Open House This Year* specials will go into effect at 12:01am tomorrow (Wednesday) morning and run through 11:59pm Saturday night (the same length of time the annual Chicago Pinball Expo usually runs).
We were going to require a coupon code, but we decided that is just a bunch of extra hassle for everyone. So now all you will have to do is visit our website during the stated time period and the discounted pricing will be available. If you already have items in your cart simply refresh your computer screen and the pricing will be updated as soon as the sale begins.

    Great sale- thank you Terry!

    #41 3 years ago

Just put in my order! Thank you Terry and team!

This is why PBL is my first choice for parts. Not only are the parts top notch, but the people running the business are top notch as well. Too bad you can't reproduce the older Gottlieb parts. Hopefully by next year, we can resume shenanigans at the open house.

    #42 3 years ago

Please don’t take this as a complaint, but I’m just curious why PBL recently started charging sales tax on out of state orders?

The sale pricing is much appreciated, but the sales tax pretty much ate up the discount. I’m guessing this is something that Illinois started enforcing?

It could also be your state too that PBL needs to comply with but I'm not an expert on taxes other than paying a **** ton every year.

Here in MN I'm noticing more online retailers (non pinball) have recently started charging tax too.

That's all related to a Supreme Court decision and has allowed all states to enforce sales collection on all sales. It's not just PBL. As a guy who also runs a small company, it's a REAL PAIN IN THE A**. It creates so much paperwork to manage for a small business as there are SO many local rates. WI is bad enough...

It has nothing to do with Illinois enforcing state tax. We have always paid Illinois state tax.
It has everything to do with your state requiring us to enforce your state's tax.
Until this year the BUYER was responsible for paying taxes on all purchases out of state. This year the law changed. Now it is the SELLER who is responsible for collecting the taxes and paying them. Each state is different; different $$ thresholds, transaction count thresholds, etc., etc.
We meet or beat these requirements in 15 states, so we must collect the taxes and pay them to the respective states.
Businesses who are not collecting taxes when they should will one day be audited, and sooner than later since all states truly need the $$$ now more than ever. When this happens all back taxes and penalties will be due. Simply put, it will put most smallish internet businesses out of business.
Collecting and paying taxes is nothing but a pain in the d**k. No one likes it. No one. Death and taxes baby, death and taxes.
    Terry.

Thanks for the explanation Terry. I wondered why two other major suppliers didn’t charge sales tax on recent purchases. I guess they didn’t make the thresholds for Georgia, which I looked up and found to be 200 transactions or $100k in sales. Congrats on your success here, but it’s crazy that being successful ties an 8.5% boat anchor to you. Makes it hard to be competitive in our state.

Even if your prices are the same or higher than the others, you guys are a first class operation and I will always support your business!

Dammit Terry! Way to sucker me in on the deals. If we ever meet and I’m talking like I have a couple of pinballs in my throat. That means that my wife did a crane kick move on me. Can I edit my order to include a jock strap? Anyways thanks for being the best pinball supplier out there.
