Yesterday my family ate dinner at a local BBQ joint. There was a TV within view of our table tuned to HGTV. A show apparently called "Fixer Upper" was on. I had zero interest (and the lady's ridiculous makeup was frightening), and was eating dinner with the family anyway, so I wasn't watching.

At one point, suddenly, my 6-year-old daughter yelled, "There's 'Sky Kings'!!!"

I glanced up at the TV, and catch a glimpse of a pinball machine (seen only from the side of the cabinet) -- sure enough, it was a Sky Kings alright. We have one (the first machine I owned), so my daughter had recognized the artwork immediately.

From the looks of the scene, it appeared the people were in an antique shop to find stuff to decorate the house they were working on.

It was on 10/17, after 5pm eastern, if anyone wants to do some digging to find this to grab a screenshot. According to HGTV's website, this episode was Season 4 Episode 2 ... there are some clips here (http://www.hgtv.com/shows/fixer-upper/episodes/after-recent-adoption-family-finds-space-to-thrive) but I don't have time right now to watch the clips there to see if that moment is included. I'll try if I can find some time!

In Parks & Recreation, Season 4 Episode 13 ("Bowling for Votes"), there is a NASCAR in the background.

Note:
- In an early shots, it almost looks like it's been re-themed to be called 'Red Zone'. It's deceiving; turns out you're looking through the glass of a prize machine called 'Red Zone' that's sitting next to it. See the first two images below.

Watched Jurassic Park 3 tonight ... in the scene where Billy & Alan go to dinner with the Kirbys, there are two machines there at the bar -- looks to me like a Pin-Bot on the left and a Fireball on the right, I think?

Watch the scene here

... they appear in from 0:06 - 0:18. Better yet, unlike most other background uses, you can actually HEAR it in the background!

Funny thing is, doesn't look like anyone's playing Fireball ... but someone is playing Pin-Bot -- yet it doesn't look like that one's even turned on!

Quoted from Pecos:

From left to right:
Bally Strikes and Spares, 1978
Gottlieb Flying Chariots, 1963
Williams Darling, 1973
Interflip Dragon, 1977

That Flying Chariots sure gets a lot of screen time, since he used it for cover and then ended up tossing it! Perhaps I should use that as a selling point when I get around to selling mine.

For those who haven't seen this portion of the scene:

Black Mirror season 5 episode 1 (Striking Vipers) has a cool virtual machine built into a full size cabinet. Karl plays it earlier in the episode, 3D projection/hologram, pretty neat.

Quoted from scampcamp:

I was watching the Toy Story 4 Clips & Trailers YouTube video & saw part of a pinball machine. Anyone know which game it may be?[quoted image]

Quoted from Pinhead1982:

Can’t remember what pinball was called in Toy Story 4..
Woody and co go inside it... it’s amazing the detail, solenoids, bulb holders, lights going in sequence, ground braid etc.. Pixar do an amazing job.
It’s an old game in a antique store in the film

Saw the movie yesterday. The game was called "Tiki Party", so it appears made up. You don't see the playfield, but you do see a portion of the backglass and the coin door (like in the screen shot posted earlier). It appears to be configured like a late-70s Bally early solid state game.

Alright, super sleuths, here's a really tough one. X-Files season 1 episode 8, Ice. (Interestingly, episode 7 had a Gottlieb Totem that I noticed, which is already posted in this thread.) Granted, I wasn't eyes-on this episode 100%, as I was working on a pinball project at the same time. That being said, I didn't see this machine anywhere else during the episode except as described: At the climax of the episode when they are wrestling down one of the characters, a pinball machine can be seen blurred in the background. These are some of the best images I could get (SD picture off old DVD copy); perhaps someone can identify it? (Sorry about the pause button visible in some of them.)

For comparison, here's my BK2K from way across the room, filtered down a little to try to mimic the lighting in the episode.

Watching the scene a few times, it does look like the same type of two line display, and the top line is lit solid while the bottom line blinks -- just like it does on BK2K with "FREE PLAY PRESS START". In the scene, there also appears to be lights some below these two lines, which correlates to the RAMSOM lights, not all of which are lit on mine in this image. Also, there are red blobs visible in the scene, which could correlate to the pop bumpers on the upper playfield.

What say you all?

No, couldn't be that one, since the display was definitely centered & below the artwork.

From earlier in the episode. I believe we have a winner.
[quoted image]

Awesome!!! Thanks! As I'd mentioned in my post, I didn't have my eyes on the screen the entire time, so it was possible I'd missed it. Guess with all the time I spent re-watching that scene trying to figure it out, I could've just rewatched the darn thing, to see if it showed up earlier, lol.

So that was interesting, two episodes in a row of X-Files that had pinball machines. Also interesting, that I own both an X-Files and a BK2K, so this episode helped bring them together, haha.

Alrighty, yet another tough one from X-Files, this one in Season 1, Episode 11, "Eve". Late in the episode they stop at a diner which has a handful of video games and two pinball machines. They're visible three separate times, but are tough to make out, especially the one on the right. The major clue for the one on the right is it has some sort of low white or yellow light bar flashing atop the backbox. What are these?

(That's three episodes of X-Files so far with pinballs in them -- S1 E7, 8, & 11)

Wow. I’m not that familiar with high speed - what gave it away? The spinner?

I own a High Speed, so I'm intimately familiar, especially since mine needed some touch ups and other work. I saw your last picture first, and what first caught my eye was the "GH" visible in the foreground -- the last two letters in "HIGH" in the art in the center of the PF. The flipper and spinner in the background confirmed it, as did the red/yellow/green targets in the other pic.

Ok so this one's a bit of a stretch and probably won't count, but thought I'd post it anyway...

In Rick and Morty, Season 2 Episode 2 'Mortynight Run', R&M visit the intergalactic arcade Blips & Chitz. In the background, you can see what looks sorta like a pinball machine -- kinda Banzai Run style. While it's obviously a fictitious machine -- and not conclusively a pinball anyway -- I did notice that you can HEAR the sound/'music' from Space Shuttle! Listen closely to the background noise in this clip from 0:13 - 0:26 --

-- those familiar with Space Shuttle will hear it. (I don't know if this same sound was used in other video arcade games but that's definitely possible too.)

Granted, we also can't conclusively say that sound is coming from that specific 'pinball machine' visible behind R&M. But still -- I can hear Space Shuttle in the audio and wanted to share!

The "High Score" series on Netflix also has a VERY short glimpse of Dr. Dude in Season 1 Episode 6 ("Level Up").

I found this amusing since this entire episode was dedicated to the advent of 3D graphics in video games, particularly Starfox, Wolfenstein 3D, and Doom -- nothing to do with pinball.

Christmas Story Christmas (2022), there's a machine in Flick's bar. The movie is set in the 70s and this machine definitely looks the size / shape of modern Stern. Looks to be a rethemed backglass, as I don't recognize it. It says "BOOM!" with some superhero-esque characters.

Haven’t seen it yet, do they actually destroy perfectly good machines? Not a mock-up?!?

They basically just smash the PF glass, obviously changed out with standard instead of tempered. Not nearly as bad as the Rumble in the Bronx scene where they also smash backglasses and completed up-end that poor Flying Chariots.

Watches The Abyss for the first time in about a decade, man that movie still holds up well. (The Special Edition of course.)

Saw it mentioned in a few posts put no one put up pics, so I guess I'll officially claim it -- Data East Secret Service, appears several times throughout the movie. One Night is even sitting on top of it in one scene!

Caught a couple in Jaws 2 tonight ... it's not in the Key Posts Index, though they were claimed in this post: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/pinball-in-movies-or-tv-shows-name-a-game-you-have-seen-in-the-background/page/76#post-7049038 ... so this needs to be added to the index!
