Bad Day at Black Rock (1955)
with Spencer Tracy, Ernest Borgnine, Lee Marvin, Walter Brennan and Robert Ryan and Anne Francis
There is a 2-3 minute scene in a cafe diner with Robert Ryan playing a Genco Follies of 1940 in background
while Ernst and Spencer duke it out, actually the outmatched (one armed) Spencer uses karate/judo to combat the burly Ernst.

Movie takes place just after the end of WWII in a small desert town in California.

Diet Dr Pepper commercial Expressway in the background can't make out the other.

I think the other one is a Classic Stern Flight 2000, with giant planet blocking out some of the BG artwork for copyright protection reasons.

Actually this new commercial is for Cherry Dr. Pepper (Diet and not) Cherry on!
Chariot, thus the tiny horse pulling a roman chariot.

Just saw the new Michael Myers movie with my wife on Halloween.
Fairly quick into the movie there is a scene (as mentioned in previous posts above)
of a sheriff playing a Back to the Future pinball machine at a Quicky Stop store for
about 10 seconds while some jive talking dude tries to psych him about never beating his high score.
The producers even gave the Data East Pin and Universal an end credit
(Universal owns the Back to Future franchise,
so that is probably why the game was intact without any cover up of TM materials.
This remake is released by Universal)

#1272 5 years ago
Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:

paid detailed attention to all the credits

Actually i was just waiting thru the final credits hoping there would be some easter egg
about what might be coming next from Michael Myers, (just some heavy breathing at the end)
and the pinball credit was near the very end and kinda stuck out like a sore thumb
compared to the usual very very end credits and acknowledgements.

Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

"pinball stereotype"

But the vast majority of the audience has not seen, let alone played or heard a EM pinball machine
with bells and chimes in over 40 yrs,
so basically anyone under 50 would not be familiar with said vintage pinball sounds.
I get where chimes and bells is more exclusive to pinball sounds,
but electronic sounds (without voice) from classic S/S pins ('78to'88) are also fairly unique to pinball or video arcade games.
TV/Movie producers that choose E/M sounds over actual pinball sounds on Pinball DMD games (1992 or newer)
is living with their heads in the sand.

Last night on TCM they showed the 1956 MGM movie starring Rock Hudson, Robert Stack and Lauren Bacall, "Written in the Wind" In two scenes at a local oil field Texas dive bar, there are 2 pinball machines. One is a fliiperless pin I think, cannot make out name, but other is CCoin. The Thing, and in one scene the Thing actual gets played with some close up shots of balls bouncing around. Sorry unable to get any screenshots to post..

From Route 66 show clip, it appears the pin closest (on the right)
is a WMS Reserve, mostly ID'd from Cabinet paint scheme.
pasted_image (resized).pngpasted_image (resized).png

Game on the left appears to be a GTB Wedgehead. But can not ID yet.

Since the time for wedgeheads prior to mid 1963 is limited and studying ipdb.org
and looking at score reel placement within the BG frame,
I have deduced that the other game is GTB Tropic Isle.
pasted_image (resized).pngpasted_image (resized).png

pasted_image (resized).pngpasted_image (resized).png
#1763 4 years ago

When you blow up the Route 66 screen snap,
which i tried to show attached, I feel fairly confident that it is Tropic Isle.
I admit that in its fuzzy out of focus state, it is far from clear.
The score reels are in the correct spot for Tropic Isle
and from 1960 to 1963, GTB only had a couple dozen wedge heads released up until then,
& I eliminated all the pins with score reels in top half of the Backglass.
The Hawaiian beauty silhouette head and bust on the left of the BG is definitely there
and on the right the little dark blob is the parrot, the hi score to date is in the right spot.

#1766 4 years ago
Quoted from girloveswaffles:

BTW, The "Blob" on the right is a monkey (IPDB).

The dark blob i was referring to is indeed a parrot.
The monkeys are Backglass light animation, as they climb the palm tree trunk
and only can be seen easily when the light bulb behind the Glass is lit up,
at each stage progression, (completing the ABCD spot targets each time).

I thought it was a Classic Stern, but was looking too yellow in the cropped photo,
probably from badly faded cabinet
or bad color TV set reception

The other pin looks like it could be a 4player EM, but so blurry it could be a S/S pin.

#1854 4 years ago
Quoted from Mardi-Gras-Man:

The other one is a STRATO-FLITE

I think you are right.
4P EM
Score Reels are in correct place
and blurry image and name look to be good match.
late 70s GTBs 4P score reels are in a different configurations.

#1856 4 years ago

My wife was watching on the CW network last night a new show
Called Katy Keene ( part of the Archie Riverdale productions)
Anyway there were several scenes that take place in a Cabaret bar
( that is the regular hang out for the cast apparently);
and there was at least one EM pin in the background,
but i was not able to determine what game it was
nor to grab any photos.
An aside about the show,
It is kinda soap operaee,
with lots and lots of musical numbers that bring the story forward
or at least tries to bring it forward,
Not exactly our cup of tea,
if it did not have the song and dance every 5 minutes,
my wife said she might have tuned in again.

I am starting to lose track.

Yup, I agree. As I saw a film last night that had a whole row of pins in a elongated scene featured promptly,
but am going to try to do a search in this topic
with movie name, to verify if posted before prior to me posting about it.
chances are it was posted before, but worth the try,
might add it anyway since i have fairly decent screenshots.

#1883 4 years ago

Well after a cursory search the movie
American Graffiti was cited previously in post#240
& #242 (with actual list of pin names from the scene),
but with no photos or screen shots
so see below for the scene.
One correction to post #242 list,
the WMS Pitch&Bat is Ball Park not Base Hit that is shown in the scene.
Scene is where Richard Dreyfuss character is forced to cover for the gang
"The Pharaohs" breaking into the machines for money,
they then take a liking to him and suggest he joins.

Wondering how many of the youth back in the day,
this exact scenario was their introduction
to the juvenile delinquent lifestyle.

#1884 4 years ago
Quoted from ImNotNorm:

As long as people type the name of the show when posting

Assuming they spell it correctly.
Movies probably easier to search and sort thru,
TV shows maybe a bit harder as there are multiple episodes to possibly search thru.

#1902 4 years ago

The other unamed pin has a European feel to it, what with the placement/positioning of the score reels.

#1904 4 years ago

It's a Zaccaria UNIVERSE. Good pull.
At least my instincts about it being a foreign make were right on.
The Fort Apache game ID pulls, I can see the strikes and spares but how did you get the other two, my eyes. Can not unfocus those details

#1907 4 years ago

With the blue displays and some of the CAB art looks like one is GTB Solar Ride.

#1910 4 years ago

I stand corrected, should have double checked on ipdb
You are exactly right, when i saw the colors of the CAB and flame on front,
I had Solar Ride on my mind, but you are absolutely correct.

Pee Wee's Big Adventure
About 1hr2min into the movie when he enters the biker bar

There is a solid state pinball machine (probably a early 80s WMS).

might be easier to ID if viewing for the whole 2 seconds its on screen.

Saw this pin in the background while watching the Friends reunion show on HBOMax. It is actually from a segment depicting Jennifer Aniston in the show she was in just prior to Friends called Muddling Through, where she is a waitress/bartender. The game looks like a WMS solid state from the 80s, maybe Firepower ?
from look of CAB art.

My wife and I were just watching on REELZ a true crime program called "I lived with a Killer" S1E9
This episode was about some Mafia thug, that was a partner in a pool hall that also was a front for a sports bookie.
Anyway in several scenes thruout, they showed the inside of the pool hall and they had 6 pinball machines in the background,
all were very blurry, but on occasion one or two came into focus.
One was a Shadow and another Walking Dead, and another was maybe Black Knight 2000.
The scene was supposed to take place in late 80s, early 90s, so of course, some of the machines were not era appropriate.
Unfortunately the photo I took of the screen was way too blurry to post.

Short shorts and tube socks. Never out of style.

Also think that is a WMS Pat Hand about 3 pins from the left? Then again maybe not.

Roseanne S4E11
Scene with Mark and Dan
at grocery store *arcade section in front of the store) where they confront
a junior manager of store that was giving Becky a hard time (possibly calling her a slut or worse)
(she just started new job as cashier).
When Dan came to confront the manager to maybe bust his chops,
Mark had already been there and hit the kid in the stomach, ( taking way Dan's thunder)
Mark was playing a video game, when Dan finally arrived.
Game was actually a Baby PacMan Flipper video hybrid game
with the graphics on the marquee changed to say Marvin (hiding the name Baby Pacman)
But you can still clearly see the characters of Baby and one of the ghosts (Inky?).

Just started watching "My Life as a Rolling Stone" Documentary (Ep1 Mick Jagger) on EPIX.
And in the first few minutes it has video of Stern's Rolling Stones pinball machine
interlaced with Mick Jagger talking over the footage, in the doc's intro
explaining what they hope to show with this "new" documentary.

Was not able to grab a screen shot
Was watching it thru free preview via SlingTV via Epix channel, only 1st episode is free.
Or watch it free (1st Episode) on EPIX NOW app on Roku.
https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/0e7174bc0dc9408ab772b0467762afe1/watch
about 1-2 minutes into the start,
has several prolonged snippets of video of the game in play
while narrators discuss how pivotal the Stones were.

#3843 1 year ago

Thanks for getting screen grabs,
Yeah always with the classic EM chimes
whenever pinball is depicted on TV or Movies.
I found it somewhat amusing when Mick says something about his dance moves
they then immediately go to the pinball with Jagger standup target moving across the Playfield.

You tell me!

Some confusion is caused by the bells (pinball foley) sounds that one hears in background,
But when the fellas leave the bar and walk by the game , I do not see any flipper buttons
and when the one guy returns to the bar and enters the phone booth inside the bar
the game cabinet is painted a solid grey but you can tell by the way the head is mounted
it is a bingo and again no sign of flipper buttons.

From the reverse image in the back bar mirror it looks like it might be a 3 card bingo machine.

I am going to guess United Triple Play
Cause the positions of the cards look like they line up and green banners at the top of BG
and the light towers on the PF.
