Look what I saw on a new PODS commercial.

I took a better screenshot. Watch the video/commercial and there is actual multi-ball going on along with active flippers (starts at 0:08). Pretty creative, IMHO.

Tonight’s episode of Outdoor Man. I’m guessing the graphics are fake, but can anyone tell if the play field is real?

Stellar Wars?

By the looks of it, I believe you are correct. Much of the playfield is redone, but big widebody where layout appears to be exact same (not to mention the theme is there). Just saw that it is a Steve Ritchie game from 1979 - Geez, how long has that dude been around pinball?

Entire episode was around PinBall with Mike being a wizard in a past life, as was Larabee. Larabee wanted a game, but Mike didn't want to give it to him (didn't want to relive the burden of being the greatest and everyone always wanting a game to see if they could beat him). They end up playing, but I'll not spoil things. Funny in that Mike even mentions "EM" and other pinball terms when recalling The Captain & Tennille pin (had to spell MUSKRAT LOVE to earn a free game). Makes you wonder if Tim Allen is really into pinball (or who knows, some writer may have come up with the idea).

The movie sucked and the game isn’t much to talk about either!

Who the hell are they?? Local band?? I’m usually not a critic of local music and the little guy, but that music video is about 20 years late to the era it’s trying to replicate and comes off as cheesy as hell.

I don't know, but I liked them better in the '80's when they were called the The Go-Go's.

You catch a quick out of focus glimpse of an Attack From Mars near the beginning of the new movie Ad Astra

Here is the best frame of it. I'm guessing a AFMr LE with the black legs & apparent mirror blades. Occurs at about the 4:00 mark into the movie, and lasts only a couple of seconds as the camera pans by.

Quoted from Reality_Studio:

Yup that's mine, they rented it from me for use in the movie.

That’s really cool. How did all of that go down? What is the going rate for something like that - enough to cover a lunch or two? Did you get to be on set to ensure it was handled correctly?

#1656 4 years ago
Quoted from Reality_Studio:

It's an original '90s Attack from Mars but it was rough, so I had my local restorer dude completely make the game over with new playfield, plastics, ramps, color DMD, the works. It's basically in immaculate condition. Later on he was contacted by a local movie company about wanting to rent a pinball machine so he suggested my Attack from Mars which they jumped on pretty quickly. I don't know if I'm allowed to reveal the amount to rent it, but it was four figures. I was not allowed on set, but they did leave a check for the full amount of the machine in case they damaged it. They only had it for a few days and it was returned without any damage. It was kind of amusing when they came by to pick it up, they showed up with a monstrous brand new truck and the crew of five just to move one little pinball machine lol.

That's awesome, thanks for sharing.

Quoted from mcfly:

Why do they always put generic sounds over the real table? I think it was stranger things they I saw recently that did this with Twilight Zone or it could have been a different show but yeh wtf is up with that?

In braking bad they made Getaway sound like an old EM. I don’t know if it is because of the pinball stereotype or some kind of licensing issue.

#1668 4 years ago
Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

It's not really either - when you're making a TV show, you need the most effective sound effect for the tiny amount of time you have to tell the story. So when someone's playing pinball, they add the EM sounds because most people know what that sound is, and it conveys "the character is playing pinball!" in the split second it's onscreen. If they added the actual Getaway sounds for example, most people would have no idea what they were listening to, and it would just sound like noise. I suppose that's partly the "pinball stereotype" but there's a bit more thought involved, even if it doesn't make sense to us

What I meant by "pinball stereotype" is basically what you are saying. In other words, it is the typical familiar sound that most viewers would easily and quickly identify as coming from a pinball machine. I know that movies & TV do this for all sorts of areas where any specialist/professional would probably cringe when they see/hear it.

#1914 4 years ago
Quoted from Rolls-Royce:

... probably next time I’ll check 3 years of pics before I post something

I just used the search tool. I see pins in shows on a regular basis, but I always search first before I post. I think if someone mentioned it but doesn't post a photo then it's fair game.

#1915 4 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

I think Key Posts are the best way to at least break out a listing of the titles covered. I started indexing them just now and will work back through the whole thread this week so we end up with a listing of every movie/tv show in the thread in one easy place.
Next step would be having the OP take that kep post index, sort it by alpha, and post the updated list to the OP on a regular basis so there's an alphabetical list.

This sounds like a royal pain to me. Not sure if OP (or anyone) would want to keep up with it. Just not a simple way to track such a thing in the forums as far as I can tell. I just request that people keyword search for the show/movie to see if anyone else has already posted before they do.

#1919 4 years ago
Quoted from Fremulon:

I saw this one also. It's a Getaway. For some reason they took out the sound of the real machine and made it sound like an old EM.

#1978 4 years ago

Forged in Fire (S06E06)
I don't really watch this show...but caught it during my lunch break tonight at work. Looks like they salvaged some metal from an EM to make their swords. Not sure how it all ended since my break was 15 minutes.

I enjoyed it when it was posted a year ago

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/pinball-in-movies-or-tv-shows-name-a-game-you-have-seen-in-the-background/page/29#post-4880951

BTW, this brings up the question that if a video is posted instead of a photo (as was the case here), does that count? I vote is that it should, and the OP should index the post.

#1980 4 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

There are a bunch of procedural questions that will have to be addressed moving forward so it's consistent. In general, I have been valuing screenshots over video, because screenshots are stored locally on pinside, and video is external on youtube. If you go back through the thread, there are quite a few videos that no longer work at all - the youtube video is deleted or blocked, whereas ALL the screenshots are here and still work.
So, based on what I've seen working through this thread, video is nice but unreliable long-term (until/unless pinside starts allowing uploaded video, which I don't think is happening), so I say screenshots are king for pinside posterity.

It's your project so I will defer to you as ultimate decision maker since I don't plan on investing any of my time into it.

If video doesn't count I would encourage those of you who have exclusively posted videos with your sightings to grab a screenshot or two and update your posts. Then again, you could just wait until the next guy comes along a year or two later with a "new find" and does it for you.

#1981 4 years ago

BTW, If we have a post with an image but we don't see it in the index, should we alert you or are you still working on it?

#1984 4 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

I'm almost 80% done. I'll clean up any issues once I have everything in and can see all the duplicates, etc. The current sorted list is on page 39 of this thread. There are a lot of duplicates.

I asked because it looks like you skipped over my "Blended" post with a nice big screen grab even though you picked up others that were right before and after it.

#1990 4 years ago
Quoted from ImNotNorm:

That's how I missed the Forged in Fire video. Not in the key post and not word searchable.

BTW, I was just giving you a hard time, all in good fun.

Besides, I remember your icon from your contributions in the Bay Watch "imamaculate" days - I could never criticize you on that basis alone!

#1991 4 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

I have 32 of the 40 pages of posts indexed. Forged in Fire is indexed now also. Click Topic Index and then click "show all" at the bottom of the short summary and it will show the 400+ indexed posts so far.

Did you get that machine gun barrage of all those French films/shows nobody else has ever heard of several pages back? Technically, I'm sure they qualify but I prefer games in movies and TV shows that most people are familiar with.

Also, I don't think that is a Tornado foosball table (the best, IMO), but definitely the style I grew up on with a single goalie and elevated corners (they also had glass playfields). I hate the newer tables with flat goalies and 3 men on the back bar, but since I'm only a fraction of the player I was in my youth, it probably doesn't really matter. Oh, and not sure how they keep score on that one - why would the remove the counters?

Quoted from TopMoose:

This one is really bothering me.
The cabinet looks like a late 70's/early 80s style and the playfield has Williams-style triangle arrow inserts, but I cannot find any such games with werewolf side art or even a monster theme from that era. It looks like there are four targets in the center playfield that spell "WOLF," but if this is a re-theme, I can't find a game that looks like that. It looks like the inlanes and outlanes also spell WOLF.
Could it be a rare Zaccharia, Segasa or other European manufacturer that I'm overlooking?

Yeah, I probably spent an hour trying to track it down and couldn't. Going to be funny if someone pops in here and knows what it is right away.

I watched last night like I mentioned. ITS EXACTLY Saul Goodman meets John Wick!! LOL, I said that to my wife. Hilarious.
The movie doesn't try too hard. Its exactly as advertised, had a blast watching.

For those wondering, the movie is "Nobody" starring Bob Odenkirk (Saul Goodman), and it features a pin in it. I plan on watching it this weekend.

Watched it last night, and enjoyed it. Not to give things away, but basic story is a guy has a hidden past and when he's pushed he returns to his old life and goes scorched earth (similar to John Wick, but completely different context). If you like "good guys" taking out bad guys and having fun doing so, this movie is for you.

Also, has some actors I enjoyed seeing: Christopher Lloyd plays the main character's dad, and Michael Ironside (unrecognizable from his Top Gun, Total Recall, and Starship Troopers appearances) is the main character's father-in-law.

Finally, after watching I know where to store all of my gold bars - in my pin's coin box.

#2891 3 years ago

The commercial - wow. Just, wow. Nothing I enjoy more than being spoken to like a first grader (yeah, that's effective). If the state is the one who has to teach proper social interaction and does so in a way to suggest that we have the right to never be offended by any other person, then something is wrong with society.

Quoted from girloveswaffles:

However, you can easily miss a movie or TV title because it listed under T (for "The...").
And it's not consistent. Even in the picture of the list you posted, "The Fugitive is listed as "Fugitive", but there's a lot of titles listed under "The"
[quoted image]
So if I go to look up "The Enforcer" (which I have listed) Where do I look? Under THE Enforcer, or Enforcer?
Anything that starts with The should be listed more like this: (Enforcer, The) , or else half the list would end up under "The".

Are you trolling me?

Open all key post, CTRL-F on keyboard (Windows PC), type partial character string you are searching for, click through results to see if what you are looking for is there or not.

#3776 1 year ago
Quoted from girloveswaffles:

No, I'm not "Trolling" you.
I'm posting an actual problem with the key post list.
How do you think I found out this was a problem? I did what you suggested and it doesn't work if a lot of titles are listed as "The..."

Sorry, I just assumed most everyone knows how to do keyword search from the browser. Not sure what platform you are on, but like I stated if you expand the entire listing the do a search via your browser by keyword (CTRL-F in Windows) then you can quickly find any appearance of that term regardless of any definite articles (e.g. search for "Beatles" instead of "The Beatles"). I would assume MAC has something similar, but I know it is more complicated on a phone.

Bottom line is if you give it some effort, don't find it, post your photo, and then someone shows it was already posted, then it's no big deal if it happens occasionally. I've been guilty of this at least once when I thought I checked as best I could beforehand. I think that most of us who follow this thread just want people to make some effort to check for dups before posting. Just don't take it personally if someone is able to reference a previous posting.

Quoted from pinball2020:

For those people what want to memorialized forever in this thread (or until the website goes away ), please feel free to do what I was doing in-between chores while I was on vacation this week:
1. Go through the 11 years or so of posts and look for posts with no pictures but movie/tv sightings where people saw pinball machines.
2. Check the Topic index (key posts) to see if somebody else already found the movie/tv/pinball combination elsewhere.
3. If not, go ahead and if you have the movie or can get it in Netflix, etc, watch it (if you can stomach it ) and snapshot the machine.
4. Make your post including your snapshot. It would be nice to include the original poster's info who posted it without an image as well.
5. Get added as a Topic index (key post) to impress your friends, spouses, children and pets.
6. After they say "That's nice", "Get a life and take out the garbage", ignore you or ask for you food, play some pinball.
Happy Holidays Everybody!
pinball2020

Perfect advice. Many of the earlier posts don't actually have screenshots, and I too have done what you describe - create a new post with screenshots, but reference/credit the original poster.

It also drives my family crazy when we are watching something, and I pause the TV so I can run to grab my iPad to check the thread. If it's something new and I take a photo of the TV then let the eye rolling commence. For some reason, I'm the only one in my household that "gets it".
