Last weeks episode of the Mentalist. Had a quick shot of a pin, in a bar scene.

#233 9 years ago
Quoted from neurokinetik:

Saw a single player EM during Sons of Anarchy Season 7. Episode 6. It was on and lit, but never in focus in any of the shots, so hard to ID.

SOA_EM.jpg 32 KB

Same game type as in the TV show, The Crazy Ones. Bally Expressway.

#235 9 years ago

Another episode of the Mentalist. Another pinball machine, this time Patrick is playing it. The blue cabinet with shooting stars, the backglass had planets on it. It looked like the Orbitor 1 back glass was put over top of the regular backglass. A TV prop for sure.

Stern game, might be a modified Flight 2000.

Quoted from bob_e:

In the movie AMERICAN GRAFITTI member of the car club went to get gas money out of a group of pins

A few of those pins are historic inaccuracies. They are newer than the setting of the film. Fun movie, a classic none the less. American Graffiti was set in the summer of 1962. It was filmed in 1973 or 1974.

The pins in the arcade are all newer than 1962. Buckaroo 1965; Base Hit 1967; Royal Guard 1968; Wild Wild West 1969; Sky Rocket 1970; and Vampire 1971.

In the Theory of everything (2014) a Stephen Hawking biopic. Eddie Redmayne (Stephen Hawking) and his friends are mentor are playing pinball in a Pub. The scene is supposed to happen in 1963, before he is diagnosed with ALS.
Which pin is it?

1959 Gottlieb Universe. The lit flippers used as ball guides were the clue.

Gottlieb Totem spotted in the X-files, Season 1, Episode 7 at about 13 minutes 48 seconds:

Most likely the Totem was leased from Johns Jukes in Vancouver B.C.

1958 Roto Pool in a bar scene, on Mike & Molly. 'Molly's Out of Town" 2013.

Elementry episode, "A View With a Room" 2016. A blue pinball machine in the gangs club house.

#415 8 years ago
Quoted from ForceFlow:

Not really much to go on in that scene, unfortunately...

100%, Not much to go on.
That pin is clearly a prop. Black legs to avoid reflections, the name on the side is hard to read, and it was not on.
Looks like 'Chain, or Clean, or Clann', the lower yellow wording looks like "Carbon". Will have to try to edit the fame later, and zoom the image.

#419 8 years ago
Quoted from ForceFlow:

Almost looks like "Chain Cannon" to me

You got it Forceflow, it is 'Chain Cannon'. The red part is a chain, I do not have enough resolution to enlarge the image. To be able to read the off set lower yellow lettering.

#425 8 years ago

Most definitely 'Chain Carbon'. The lower script is not readable but the last part of the line sort of looks like pinball. That last photo is much better. The plunger base looks like a Williams and the pedestal is red. The side art has a molecular design.

Quoted from o-din:

I was watching an episode of Perry Mason called The Case of the Telltale Tap from 1965 and this one was in the corner of the bar in the opening scene. Couldn't figure out what it was though.

That is going to be a toughy. Score reels in the lower center, maybe. Could it be an import? There appears to be gaffers tape across the coin door, and something spread across the backglass in a 'Z' shape, as part of that cover up overlaps the side of the back box.

TV Commercial for Hotels.com, Captain Obvious is playing air hockey in an arcade, behind him is a row of pins.

Saw this one the other day.

1948 "The Time of Your Life". James Cagney and William Bendix. There is a pinball machine in the center of the bar, one character in the movie is constantly playing it. Then he beats the game. All hell breaks loose, (I won't give it away) the back box is a movie prop.

On Timeless tonight (Season Premiere). There was an old wood rail in the bar scene. One of the supporting cast is playing it. The time line was June 6th 1937.

The pin has a large ball lift arm on the right side, and a coin drop on the lockdown bar. A green playfield, with lots of pins in it.

Quoted from TopMoose:

4 Million BC spotted in this week's episode of Timeless.

There is also a pin in the bar scene, it is in the background, out of focus. This is the second Timeless episode with pins on screen. Some one on the show likes them. The series is filmed in Vancouver.

On Bull, the episode aired today, "Never Saw the Sign".
In the coffee internet café scene. There was a pin in the back ground. Although it had a 4 player head from the 70's, the backglass appeared to be a photo shopped overlay, single player.

#607 7 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

It flashed by real fast.

It was in the background and was only briefly in view.

A FB friend sent me a picture of a movie "Second hand Lions" 2003. There is a bar scene with a slightly covered up Odds and Evens. In the scene it is in the background, the green stands out.

Today Jan 24th. On the TV show InnerSPACE. They did a short segment on 'Wizard Mode'.

2001 and another in background.

Looks like a 1970 Aquarius, with a black painted back box.

Timeless episode, 'Karma Chameleon' airing tonight. Another pin in the bar scene. An multi player EM game. There are many different shots of it in the background.

That is third episode with a pin in it.

Quoted from o-din:

I remmber watching it when it first aired. I watched all the Kolchaks as it was the best show on at the time. Chris Carter said X-files was directly influenced by Kolchak.
Instead of trying to hide the identity of the pinball machine like you see in so may shows, when Kolchak inquired where the guy got shot, the op said right here he was playing this 4 Square and had the high score on it.

Night Stalker was indeed one of the better shows at that time. Some Episodes have that real 70's vibe which sometimes doesn't hold up. Most shows used more generic scenery and costumes. The yellow 1966 Mustang Convertible, even though it was just a 6 cylinder, adds some flair to the show.

X-Files did have a cross over Episode, Darrin McGavin was not in it. Charles Nelson Riley played a Kolchak kind of character. A few times in the Series Mulder mentions Kolchak.

#663 7 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

Did you not see this episode? Darren played the guy who was part of the original X-files.

Must of had an oops! moment, Thanks for clearing this up. Now I have to the watch the 3 episodes.

Just clarify:

Charles Nelson Riley, was one Episode, 'Jose Chung 1996', an excellent episode, but nothing to do with Night Stalker.
Darren McGavin was on 2 episodes, both as Arthur Dales. 'Travellers 1996' and 'Agua Mala 1999'.

Here is a new one. Bobs Burgers 'Like Gene for Chocolate'. 2 cartoon pins in the office where Gene meets the grandson of the chocolate factory, founder. Grand son is playing one of them. One pin name is Rockstar, the other BACCARAY?

#694 7 years ago
Quoted from jibmums:

You sure that didn't say BARRACORA?

Possibly, couldn't read it fast enough. Will be able to find out precisely when the episode is put onto the Networks Website.

In the scene where the guy is playing, the movement of the flippers and ball were in view. Not static. Some one on the show committed that pinball part on purpose. Cool!

Progressive Insurance. Pin in the new Man Cave ad. Starts off looking normal, the man cave room ends up mostly white by the end of the ad.

#739 6 years ago
Quoted from barakandl:

The first shot before it turns all white looks like a black knight 2k with a custom backglass. Can't tell for sure tho.

Yep, Black Knight 2000. Some kind of decal covering most of the backglass, as it is not a reflective surface.

On Superior Donuts, 'Arthurs Day off' 2 pins in the bowling alley back ground, Gogar for sure, couldn't figure out the other one.

Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:

PODS commercial.

The cabinet is a POD Container. Must be a photo shop, but surely a working game could be done, as a 1 off. The little roll up door would be a challenge to make in correct scale.

Added over 7 years ago: The backglass is for "Stern Pinball" an EM pin.

#815 6 years ago

'Mystic Pizza', there is a pin in the background, during the scene in the bar and Julia Roberts playing pool. (Don't ask why I know this). The pin has red displays and all of them are flashing.

#907 6 years ago

Anthony Bourdain Season 10 Episode 9 "Seattle" will be showing pins in the background. Fun House and Dr.Who (not sure), and some EM pin shown in action.
It was just pins in the background, and just a snippet of pins in view. The final scene in the episode is in a bar with 3 pins out of focus in the background.

#912 6 years ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

It's because the sounds are royalty free

Also the solid state and newer pins can have random sounds or call outs, that can also flub up the sound editing.

#930 6 years ago
Quoted from girloveswaffles:

Not a real pinball but:

The key is that it was put there on the set or CGI into a scene. It looks like a pinball machine and not an arcade Game. So, it counts.

Quoted from girloveswaffles:

I saw a quick shot of an old pin in the background

It looks like a prop. No EMs had full lighting from the backglass. The cabinet looks like it is pink, and has that brown earth colour rubbed onto it, to reduce the colour saturation or glare, while filming/taping.

This would be the 3rd pinball machine that has been used in 'Timeless'.

Young Sheldon S2 Ep3, 'A crisis of Faith'. In the bar scenes there is a pin in the background, possibly Flip Flop. Not sure.

Quoted from CodHollandaise:

Thanks! Here's a better look at the right one
[quoted image]

The pin on the right, has a cabinet side art for Jungle Queen that Tiger is clear in your first photo. The front panel has different art work than Jungle Queen.
Neither Jungle Princess or Jungle Queen are single player wedge heads. It could be a modified game.

#1330 5 years ago

100% on the Tiger.

Both pins are newer than the historical setting of 1920's of this film.

Quoted from girloveswaffles:

There was a Gottlieb wedge head in tonight season premier of American Pickers that was in a Hair Stylist store. Could not make out the back glass though because the shots of it were to short, but defiantly a Gottlieb. Got a good look at the coin door. It was an early '70s style.

Top Card! Season 19 Episode 43, of American Pickers.

Tv show Project Blue Book. The episode 'The Green Fireballs', uses a reference to pinball. Something about "bouncing around like a pinball in a pinball machine''.

Quoted from John_I:

I just saw this movie and the funny part is the Galaxy obviously was retrofitted with LEDs!
Really good movie by the way. Not sold on the choice of lead actors but I enjoyed it all the same. Amazing what a big part of my college years the Live Aid concert was. I still remember hearing We Will Rock You as one of the greatest moments of my life. We had a stereo receiver with HUGE speakers connected to the TV and cranked the entire concert out.

This is off topic: There was a time when TV Stations and FM Radio Stations did simulcasts. Usually a PBS station showing a concert. Now with stereo TV that process of linking the sound and sight is not required. The last simulcast I remember would of been a Grammy show in the 1990's.

Found another one. "Hidden Potential; Season 1, Episode 13, 'California Cape Cod' ".

In the opening, going through the home one of the rooms has a Captain Fantastic, in the corner. It has the kids art covering part of the backglass, blocking more than half of the artwork. The game is on, it is viewable for less than 30 seconds, clearly a pin proudly owned standing in place, in a good size room.

There is U.K. show, "The Repair Shop".

The episode called, 'Rocking Horse, Pinball Machine, & Barograph'. Their expert repairs a 1933 Spry Ball, a pure mechanical game. A game made in Coventry England by Midland Components Ltd.

An Quantum Leap episode, called 'Mirror Image'. Has a Gottlieb Baseball in the bar scenes.

Another time travelling pinball machine, there is a reference that it is 1953 in this episode.
