Add fist punch too.
The closed fist side wrist fist punch always destroys the outside barrel springs.

Quoted from gdonovan:

Sometimes you have to do what you have to do, head off is preferred of course but in the real world not always an option.

Been there done that. I had to take a grinder to an F-14 Tomcat....
The head bolts were too long and jammed into the Tee nuts and the Tee nuts ended up
stripping up/tearing up the wood in the neck of the cabinet.

Quoted from noflip95:

The word "fuse" must be absent from the vocabulary of certain persons

I guy I worked for, many years ago, would use nails and paper clips as fuses til something
would fry. " There's the problem! "

Back glass is ruined.
The game is good for scrap.

#1116 6 years ago

Sad.

Quoted from ryanbrooks:

That’s not the worst part of that game. It needed 9 SA-23-850 coils and drive transistors.

This ^ , is how I got my Firepower for $150.00 dollars. Somebody put a 30 amp fuse in the
2.5 amp slo-blo solenoid fuse holder.

What a clean looking example ruined.

I wish I could have the capacity to unseen the travesty...
Pinball perversion at its best... sigh.

#1796 5 years ago

I had to clean an air conditioning unit that was the same way...
The home was abandoned and was a foreclosure sale.

Quoted from RockfordReplay:

This is scary. Does it splash at you or simply drop to the floor?
I'm curious if glass temperature versus hand temperature combined with holding technique/force suddenly seals the deal (your bloods flowing, your hands are warm, your palm and fingers are resting on the surface instead of trapping the edges).

I had the glass spray outwards from the sides of my hands... It is weird because your hands are still
in the glass grasp position.

Quoted from koen12344:

Too loud? Just cut the wires!
[quoted image]

A guy I know used Duck Tape and wrapped it around and around the back box
speaker grill and all around the back box frame...The game was a Pinbot...
All I could do was laugh.

#1868 4 years ago
Quoted from FunnyStarRunner:

It looked fine on the outside, but he said when he bought it that someone had gutted the electronics and it needed a complete interior overhaul.

Ah! I had to do a repair on a game the guy said "it only needed a relay"...
Same as above.

At the very least the "W" logo block out plate.

I have a some of those as a decal.

Quoted from Beemus:

She cleaned up just fine and I took care of that white paint. The rodent was a clean guest and only stayed long enough to birth some offspring. The afterbirth was a joy to clean blech
[quoted image][quoted image]

Note: I got to repair the other , "non add-a-ball", version of this game and the top bottom
----- middle "mini T bumper" was missing... there was no playfield marks or
----- anything to suggest that a post was there rather that it was an option.
----- What I found out while playing the game, is that the ball can now easily traverse
----- between the top two pop bumpers. The ball can go left to right and right to left sides of the
----- playfield. It was much more funner to play. I think it might be Gottliebs way of making
----- the game more conservative/liberal to each version of the game.
Congratulation, on a neat Gottlieb game.

Quoted from cottonm4:

A bad board was instant death to a pin. It could not be fixed and rental space was not cheap so pins like this Meteor were instant parts machines.

True... I have spent many hours trying to get Bally/Stern CPU boards up and running.
So a game could be saved.

Quoted from lordloss:

Someone wanted extra extra diamond clearcoat, so they made their own.[quoted image][quoted image]

That reminds me of a Bally Dolly Parton pinball back in 1985.
Everything was "glued" The side rails were covered, the drop targets were covered...
The rollover switches... and even the score card cover was sprayed with Varathane
coatings. An old can of Varathane ( the one that has the gal on roller skates ) was
inside the cabinet.
The only thing not covered was the plastic set.

This poor EX-Wild Fyre currently on eBay Australia has been butchered, the brains of some idiots never cease to amaze me, and they call it Art, I call it dropped on you head at birth.

For my two cents...
I think it is much more colorful than an all solid blue painted xenon.

Quoted from ryanbrooks:

I lost a snack machine out of the back of a truck at the I-40 and I-44 junction at 5pm one afternoon about 20 years ago. Big Rowe 4900 (I was helping one of dads friends and we didn’t have any rope or straps. He told me to tie it in with an extension cord). I was maybe 19-20 years old at the time? In horror I asked what we do. The old man said “pull the tax stamp and operator decal and let’s get the hell out of here!” Glass everywhere. It had dug about 3/4” down into the asphalt. I did what he said and took off as fast as that old Dodge would go (a 1991 dodge gas 3/4 ton is the most imperfect getaway vehicle for future reference.) I’ve broken PF and BG before, but nothing could ever compare to that massive sheet in that Rowe. It’s like a 4’x5’ piece of 1/4”.

Oh, the days when you learn about the rules about physics the fun way!
This story brings back memories... so many pieces of glass and games gone!

#4742 11 months ago
Quoted from Neal_W:

That used to be a good deal to have new glass delivered to your door in a couple days, but with $49 ups shipping and $29 tax =$177 for 2 sheets, it is less appealing now.
Your local pinball parts supplier may offer a 'no shipping charge' deal if you pick it up at a show.

I remember Gottliebs closeout sale back in the mid 1990's.
A van had stuffed in the back, sheets of common glass for $25.00 a piece.
Buy more save more... Bally white pop bumper bodies $1.00 each, or buy more save more.
Bally pop repro caps, $5.00 each. Those where the days.

Quoted from Robotworkshop:

I think that overfusing elsewhere in the game allows too much current to go through the bridge, shorting the bridge, then the meltdown happens.

Not so, I had the same thing happened to a Williams Sorcerer pinball. I was lucky,
the transformer did not get fried, and only the red wires melted together.

I think product management cut cost in this part/area of the machines because
the games would all be out of warranty...The joys of engineered obsolesces.
