Quoted from Pintopia:

That is dirt that has gotten moist it’s on the plastics as well.

I have serious doubts about that... the difference between the playfield and the plastics is that you can see the artwork under the dirt on the plastics... but on the playfield there is nothing except where remnants of the paint remain...

Here's another shot he sent that demonstrates this better:

I guess whats actually worse is that I actually own the same machine and did not recoginize it. Even worse I only paid a bit more then he is asking for a fully functional machine from a great pinsider ......great machine lots of fun ...total disaster that someone let it get that bad

What on earth game is this?!

Quoted from pinballslave:

I asked the seller of the Home Run if he could send pics of the playfield and cabinet since I might be interested in buying it... eventually, after sending a pic of the playfield where it was impossible to even see the playfield due to reflections from, and dust on, the glass, which I had to point out to him, he eventually sent pics where the playfield is actually visible... I told him that my artistic skills are not sufficient to re-paint the missig artwork and he should sell it to a guy he said had already offered $500 for it... apparently this guy had not seen the playfield pics he sent me, but did know the condition because the seller told him "it needs refurbishment"... to the seller, that phrase is all that's needed to tell a potential buyer that there is virtually no paint left on the playfield!
I would love to see what happens if someone turns up to buy this without actually seeing these pics!![quoted image][quoted image]

Looks like the glass was off it and it had a severe rat infestation. In the very first picture inside the game, you can see a massive rat nest. 306B3D4A-5D50-4376-AD19-C003A1833111.jpeg306B3D4A-5D50-4376-AD19-C003A1833111.jpeg
Game is probably rotten. Rat piss destroyed the playfield.
At that stage, parts.
Only if you’re brave!

NOPE!!! Beware of hantavirus when dealing with any nesting from a mouse or rat.

Send me a 300 DPI scan with some type of ruler scanned with it and I can remake that for you.

I didn't notice that! So that dark red mound inside the cab, that's a rat's nest? Scary!

The guy still hasn't replied to my request for him to wipe the dirt off... I think I'll push him again, saying if the guy bought it for $500 then I understand... I'm gonna guess he'll say it's sold so I stop asking him to remove the dirt seeing as he knows he's lying... that's my prediction... at which point it would be cool if someone else from here can ask him if it's still for sale

The pink, fluffy mound is fiberglass insulation which mice/rats LOVE to make nests from. It’s extremely common in North America, because buildings are made from wood. Probably not so much in Europe due to their concrete and solid construction methods, so not as much need for the fiberglass insulation when the building is rock solid concrete!

#3710 2 years ago
Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:

so not as much need for the fiberglass insulation when the building is rock solid concrete!

My house is brick built (40cm thick solid walls), but it's still insulated on the outside to help stop heat loss... they typically use polystyrene insulation though that's literally glued to the house and then painted with a very thick paint... I hated this idea at first because it means the outside of the house is fragile, you can literally push your fist through it if you don't mind a few cuts from the set paint... in the UK, where I used to live, it's common to have a cavity brick wall where the cavity is filled with insulation... sometimes a Rockwool type stuff if put in during the build, or an expanding foam if done afterwards.

As an update on communication from the seller of the Home Run, instead of backing out and saying the game has gone, he's actually agreed to clean the playfield!! Really very curious what follows!!!

Hope someone gives him the hint to use naphtha or rubbing alcohol to wipe it down, not soap and water.

I told him to not use water, and recommended furniture polish... no idea if that's really a good or bad idea, but I tend to use furniture polish on playfields that I'm preparing for a ceiling project and it seems to work well...

Edit, I mailed him again advising him to use naphtha or rubbing alcohol to wipe it down...

How about this one? Sorry for the poor quality, but yes this is technically a pinball horror pic, can anyone spot it?

Gottlieb “Pin Wheel”. Didn’t turn out too bad. And found why they had a clothes pin on that EOS. (Looked closed but nothing there to make contact. Lol)

1953 single player technology. No score reels. Just score lights. Down to 4 out of 75 bulbs not working. Almost there!

For some reason I thought 'Spin Wheel' instead of Pin Wheel... much more beautiful and interesting game! I'm missing a game with captive holes in my lineup!!

Quoted from stumptown:

This High Speed I got today... First frog I've found in a pin!

Got the lower cabinet dried out well enough, found a suitable donor backbox thanks to a generous fellow collector in the region, and moved all of the electronics over tonight. Really looking like the only thing wrong with this machine was a broken backglass and maybe some of the displays being out. I was able to boot it, coin up, start and 'play' a game, no problem. Huge shame it was put outside for years like that.

Here's a video of what I found after getting it all hooked back up:

I'd given up hope on hearing back from the Home Run owner after I asked him to clean the supposed dirt from the playfield, but during that time gap it appears he's been very busy!! Yesterday he sent me a video of the game turned on, motor running... Here's a screen shot part way through the video... not sure how to share the whole video here... now I'm in a bit of a spot because the only reason I showed an interest in the game was to wangle pics of the playfield out of him in the belief it would be total trash!

At first I thought it was a different game, but looking at the screen shot I see that it has the same damaged rubber on the right sling shot!

That playfield looks good, but how could it have gotten that dirty? Is it smoke damage, flood, or rodent? Never seen that much build up on a playfield.

I don't get too bent out of shape about old playfields as wall art, since a lot of them are left over from swaps. I've done it myself. Practiced doing touch ups and clear coat on old ones that won't ever get used again. I made this one:

Quoted from gdonovan:

I've got a load of very nice condition playfields from all eras, and very few are leftovers from swaps... most of them were from operators who I bought games off who kept them as a supply of parts, and when they ran dry, or time had moved on and the era that the playfields were from was no longer being operated, I got them thrown in with the deal. Other times I picked up a body with no head and parted it out... I'm planning to use them on the ceiling of the eventual pinball room which will be back-lit... I feel no shame

Quoted from bigguybbr:

I made this one:

Wow!! That's some pretty impressive lighting effects you've got going on there!! Your cat seems impressed too, but probably not as much as I was! How have you done that?? If even just some of the playfields I'm planning to put on my ceiling were doing this kind of stuff it would be awesome!

Quoted from Mk1Mod0:

I'll match your pinball coffee table and raise you this... collection of abominations

I see the 'artist' appears to have screwed several posts with pulleys on then to attach a belt to which drags a toy tow truck around the playfield on the Night Rider!! Errrr, not sure that actually improves the look!! And what the heck is that bent metal rod also attached to the front if the playfield for?? $500 for that!!

bigguybbr lighting effects are 100× more attractive!

I have a Last Action Hero playfield that came with a pin I purchased from a swap, its repairable so I didn't do anything to damage it when I made it a wall hanger. It uses a set of LED Christmas lamps from Amazon for lighting.

The crane, apron and several plastics were made from scratch.

That's dedication!! I normally leave whatever looks nice on the front of the playfield so it looks as complete as possible... to minimise the weight, for drop targets, I've taken to removing the targets from the mechs and fixing them to the back of the playfield onto a piece of wood so it looks complete on the front.
