Quoted from pezpunk:

if the playfield glass is fine, then wtf happened to the playfield? was this game buried with the deceased?

They might be confused about the terminology and are actually trying to describe the backglass.

That was my guess, though they may mean the playfield glass is there and just not in the photo. You think if the playfield glass was on the machine while it was stored, the playfield would be a tad better than that, though. It's really unfortunate, I wouldn't mind owning one of these since I'm a bit of a rail fan. If I found one in this condition in the US for a cheap enough price, I'd probably buy it and frame the backglass then burn the rest if it was totally un-savable. Even a non-perfect backglass would frame OK, and you could do some light resto and improve it.

OMG! I think if I had bought it and the seller sent it to me like that I would have driven to where he lives and hit him VERY VERY HARD!

That really sucks! Wonder if the hand cart and ladder were banging against it during the ride?

#310 4 years ago

Where is the head of that game?

#311 4 years ago

Today's pick up. Didn't know in advance the backbox had broken off and all wires to the head cut.. Backglass also broken.

And it's Rotterdam so that plant in the corner may have something to do with the condition of the game..

Dort Highway or the long closed Pasadena Avenue location? Loved the big ball bowler they had on Pasedena. The rare Chicago Coin version with a thumb hole in the balls. Even featured it on the main glass.

#315 4 years ago

Yikes, TWD is jelly side down. I can imagine someone saying it will fit through a door on it's side and then flopping it that way once they sat it down. There is a shipping blanket all the way around it. The apron would bang in to the glass. ...or else it fell over?

What's the rest of the story?

#316 4 years ago
Quoted from Neal_W:

What's the rest of the story?

I was told it was properly shipped and something went horribly wrong.
It came like you see and the head was bent all the way back I believe.
No glass ever broke and I was told it was heavily insured and is being repaired as we speak.
I do know the guy almost puked when he realized the driver got his wife to sign off on the delivery.
He told her the signature was to confirm that he did in fact use a lift gate while delivering. ( Like it mattered at that point )

Hope they paid you to take that off their hands

#318 4 years ago
Quoted from dothedoo:

I really overpaid for it considering the damage to the backbox and cut wires.
Told it to the guy that I'm a man of my word so I'd pay him what I told, but it's worth less than that.
But I just wanted to get out of the place and not start a discussion after having driven more than an hour for it..
I still have to test the pcbs and displays so I hope they work, else it's really not been worth it...

And about the smell - more booze than drugs, it gave us a headache driving back home with it..

I actually own this playfield now. Some guy saw this and the cab in a dumpster. Pulled it out and put it on CL. A guy in my league snatch it and cleaned the parts for his restore. He gave me the pf and I bolted it back together. Not much else I could do with it so it's under my coffee table glass now.

Under glass where no one can hurt it anymore. Turned out OK...for a hurt pf...poor thing!

Here's the playfield of a Heavy Metal Meltdown that I went to look at recently. Looks like it literally melted down from all the face melting metal.

that's unreal.. something had to happen, like harsh cleaner got on the playfield and broke down the clearcoat and paint, and the ball just flicked it all off

Quoted from toyotaboy:

The ball was probably covered in rust and acted like sandpaper.

#339 4 years ago

Chemical. The ball does not travel under the sling shots.

#340 4 years ago
Quoted from Taxman:

Chemical. The ball does not travel under the sling shots.

Agree, look at the starposts on slings, all the paint has gone. If chipping, some of it would be left. Sad image anyway...

Any idea what's the story behind that hosing WPT-picture? Game isn't that old or playfield so bad that it has to be parted out. And at that time collector markets were there so no operator would trash games. Maybe a flood game or something (like in PAPA HQ) that prevents it from future use?

EDIT: that wpt can't be flood game, it's in too good condition. Some grime would be at some part, now every mech etc. is looking like new

The condition of that game was 97.8% alcohol related.

Here are some photos I took just a few weeks ago. These bingos had been stacked in this basement for over 30 years. The heads and bodies on the bottom of the stack had been subject to backed up sewer drains on numerous occasions.
We were able to save the games on top, but the games on the bottom just fell apart when we moved them. The good news is, there were 6 Silver Sails, 2 Golden Gates and I Bikini in the top stack. All in pretty good shape. The bad news is, there was a scarce Double Header in the bottom stack that crumbled.
What really sucks, is I offered to buy all of these about 25 years ago and they would not sell.
The first photo is a before shot. Check out that mold in the after shots!
