Did the "artist" sign it? Might want to take it on 'Antiques Roadshow' if he/she did.

The DE Batman I am currently working on. Unfortunately, this is very common with this title. What in the world was in their 'Stealth Coating' the playfields were supposed to be protected with? Unicorn Farts?

I would probably let my kids do something like this if I had a backglass that was totally roached on a machine I did not care about.

That said, I’m sure they would do a better job.

That is a really neat looking machine. If I lived close, I wouldn't mind buying this one and maybe restoring it.

I reached out to the seller.
This YouTube video looks to have the metal rails thing going on, too.

Here's a horror story with no photographic evidence... some years ago I went to buy a Fathom from a Belgian operator who had a barn load of games... it was sitting on end in a barn with only a roof for shelter... the head detached and in a dryer place. I had to wipe a thick layer of grime off the playfield glass to make sure the playfield wasn't too far gone... that confirmed, the next step was to open the coin door and take a look inside... he didn't have a key so he pryed the door open with one of the legs... as the door pooped open, both of us reeled back as the stink of rotting meat hit us... holding our breath we looked inside to see the corpse of a mouse riddled with maggots... I bought the game with the condition that I only took the head that day and came back about a month later to get the body after the maggots had finished their meal and the smell had gone.

That might just be the best literal mis-application of a pinball term I have have ever seen.

Funny... what's with the orange lined coin slide? Weird.

#2532 3 years ago
Quoted from Dono:

Various machines from that era had a plastic cover on the coin slide (in a few different colors--have seen some in hues of reds and blues). I assume that they might have been used for other coin op items too.

I think the slides with the plastic are a special "feather touch" model that was supposed to be superior to other models of slides at the time. Not sure why they had the plastic covering, but perhaps the plastic is part of the feather touch aspect or perhaps it was used to distinguish them from other models.

Yeah. I thought the clear coat was to prevent the wearing action.

I wonder how many games have been played on this.

This is quite interesting. Really tells a story from back in the day.

#2537 3 years ago

It looks like a machine out of the 80's that had been in an arcade and/or routed alot. Would not think this would happen to a newer style machine with a clear coated playfield.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty bizarre. Couldn't help but post it.

That's a really odd wear pattern... Be curious about the machine, if the flippers are not set up properly, or an inserts is causing the ball to lift a bit off the PF and really hitting down further down.

That is the old ST from Disney Islands of Adventure which has been reposted many times. Appears to have been cleaned with some solvent which removed the clearcoat and art.

It could very well be that the fact that it was plastic alone made it a 'deluxe' or indeed 'feather touch' version. Plastic was quite the thing, back in the day.

Poly clear coat is some tough stuff. I cannot think of any solvent that will attack it. Not saying there is none, but I am not family with any poly attacking solvent. The right paint stripper could really tear it up, though.
