Going to the trash soon I guess.
Too bad. I was given a Metallica that separated like that. Some clamps, glue and better leg braces and it's been fine ever since.

Wow already? Offer him something really low for everything and you can fix that cabinet in less than a day!
Cheap Aerosmith!

Not separated - look closer. The plunger assembly took a massive hit and a big section of the front of the cab is GONE.

That's what I get for browsing on my phone. :/
Well, I would have grabbed it anyway. I replaced an entire front panel before, as well, for a retheme project. Took a couple of hours and some eyeballing of the angles to get it right, but I got there. But I'm also known for trying to save things like that, so I'm not likely to be a good judge of it
I would note that, with the advent of CNC routers as hobby tools, saving cabs like that is even easier, if that's your groove.

Replace the broken front. It is not all that hard to do if someone has some woodworking skills. And actually, the broken area at the shooter can probably be repaired.

One could save the sides for wall art.

I’d grab something like that just for the plywood content. If you ever get a table saw you will understand that they are always hungry for more wood. Good plywood is not cheap.

Sir, this is Pinside, you’re not allowed to use “Stern” and “good” in the same sentence
In all fairness, that cab is pretty sick and I would have absolutely found a good use for it. I’ve fixed worse.
Yes, the shrink wrap was the only think holding it together in the first pic.
(Allegedly fell off a truck)

I talked good plywood. The Stern part is your imagination.
Nice work on fixing that Bally cab.

What router bit did you use for the joint?

I put this in a shaper at work. I would recommend a router table or shaper table. It's close enough to the original.

To clarify, one bit makes the cuts on both pieces of wood? Correct? And one piece of wood you are laying horizontally flat on the table and the other piece is positioned vertically. Yes?
Quoted from cottonm4:To clarify, one bit makes the cuts on both pieces of wood? Correct?
Yeah, they are cool bits. Be careful with the cheap ones, though.

Correct.

At least they put connectors, could have soldered them direct.

Some lacquer turns yellow with age which is the case here
Quoted from ThatOneDude:Is that an early version of a playfield protector?
If I can get the lacquer off.... Yes.
Quoted from lordloss:Someone wanted extra extra diamond clearcoat, so they made their own.[quoted image][quoted image]
That reminds me of a Bally Dolly Parton pinball back in 1985.
Everything was "glued" The side rails were covered, the drop targets were covered...
The rollover switches... and even the score card cover was sprayed with Varathane
coatings. An old can of Varathane ( the one that has the gal on roller skates ) was
inside the cabinet.
The only thing not covered was the plastic set.
Quoted from lordloss:Someone wanted extra extra diamond clearcoat, so they made their own.[quoted image][quoted image]
Quite easy .. someone used parquet lacquer which becomes yellow with the time.
We also experimentet with this kind of clear. the good nesw: Modern parquet lacquer does not become yellow and it is a nice alternate to expensive clearcoats.
there is nothing better than professional layers of clearcoat and a finish .. but for homeuse parquet lacquer is a nice and cheap thing. Not for MM and BBB ... but many normal priced pins.
Quoted from lordloss:Someone wanted extra extra diamond clearcoat, so they made their own.[quoted image][quoted image]I can save it.

I'm betting he took the play field glass of and broke it.
Need a close up of the shooter lane.
Seriously though, I see a lot of good parts there. NEVER pass up a cheap parts pin.
Quoted from Darcy:Looks like it has been modified. 100,000 point reel appears to be added.
That's just a sticker
Quoted from ThatOneDude:I knew the owner of Gameroom Warehouse in Wichita back in the day. I went upstairs one time, and it was rows of playfields. I wish I had had the space to buy some of them.
Here are a few of those playfields.

I initially bought them for the project below, but some were too nice to be stripped for display. Stars has already been shopped, thrown in one of my cabinets and played. A couple more will be saved and used in games.
