Quoted from fredsmythson:

Yes, these rare playfields are for sale. No lowball offers! These will sell fast!

Just look at the character the patina creates! You can't reproduce that look on new stuff!

#2152 4 years ago
Quoted from Murphdom:

I’m very curious to try evaporust in my new ultrasonic cleaner. The instructions say you can. I forgot all about it unfortunately when I did the door.

Now this I'm very interested in. I just use a de greaser mixed 50 50 with water. But normally causes parts to rust if not dried instantly.

#2153 4 years ago

Today's adventure in pinball neglect.
I've seen worse, but yuck.

I can almost guarantee that he did this incorrectly too. Probably just drilled the holes and inserted the posts doing no prep or work surrounding the holes for longevity. Eventually he will be in the Stern playfield issue thread complaining that his clear is flaking around them.

Hopefully used machine screw and t nut, but like mentioned prior, probably a wood screw...

#2159 4 years ago

A center pin would have been so much more effective. And looked better. Still would never recommend that.

I saw that GB yikes
I like how hard it is
But yeah that’s extreme!!!

Friend lives down there, and I've been getting daily reports. It's.. fuckin' horrid.

Quoted from Coyote:

News just said 1365 homes confirmed destroyed, 501 others damaged. They won't be able to do a full count until the situation is back to normal.

I think it'll be more than that. After the Canberra fires when they came around counting we had to point out a couple were two houses not one, that kind of thing.

#2166 4 years ago

If you didn’t live on the other end of the earth I would give you my Gottlieb Soccer to replace yours. I’m sure things are tough right now but stay strong, things will get better.

It’s a real shame what’s been happening in Sydney, not just pinball but for all the people there. This is just a hobby for most but the fires are real. I was there for work a few weeks back and the news stated that breathing the air there is the equivalent of smoking 40 cigarettes a day

#2168 4 years ago

I also have a friend/contact somewhere in hazard's way. The fire was on the end of his street but moved another way. So he has survived.

Yesterday, an old lady from Brisbane got off a plane in Canberra and died in respiratory distress on the tarmac.

I actually want to play that and see how it changes the game. Must make for some interesting bounces.

I worry this is all part of "the new normal"

He sold it already so I'm assuming it didnt work well. With the placement most ball hits would just deflect down the center.

Picked up a Pleasure Isle out of the cellar of a dairy farm in WI yesterday. The wife claimed she bought it in 1965, which would make it HUO. After it quit working, they stuck it in the cellar where the mice made a home.

Wow. I am surprised that the humidity in a farm cellar did not cause all of the plywood to swell and delaminate.

It was an old farm house with an addition added. The game spent most of it's life in the air conditioned basement of the addition. No idea how long it sat in the cellar of the original house. The cabinet and head are not bad at all.

For whatever reason, they painted the front of the cabinet and the sides of the head. It's still in the back of my truck but I was able to get the glass off and lift the playfield. The underside of the playfield and the inside of the cabinet look damn near brand new! Thankfully, the mice left the wires alone.

I'd take more pics but this is getting packed up and shipped to a buddy in Seattle. He's the one who located this. I just did the pick up and will prep for the shipping.

Strikes and Spares - buncha babies were asleep in there too. Unfortunately the family moved in a couple weeks after the guy had taken the pics and listed the game, and they'd chewed up several of the plastics. I told him "these things have done $150 worth of damage" but he wouldn't come down on the price, and I'd driven 3 hours to get it. Took it home. Ordered new plastics.

Just because you paid full price doesn’t mean you should feel obligated to take it all with you. Hope you left the critters with him.

Y2K has come and gone... Um, change your batteries dude....

The holder was literally flopping around on the CPU. Bye-bye 21 year late batteries.
Luckily, no PCB damage.

This is why I've converted all mine to NVRAM. I've even had good quality batteries start leaking well within their expected lifespan.

So very true Richard. I've seen some quality batteries leak 2 to 3 years before their "best if installed by: XXXX" dates. Every game that comes my way I remove and upgrade to eliminate this scenario. I'm done with these ticking-time-bomb batteries.

Just use lithium AA's 10-15 dollars a machine and 2 minutes of time/effort

#2196 4 years ago

Second the NVRAM here. The only game left in my collection that hasn't been brought over is my Meteor, and that's because the original code didn't play nice with it. The new codebase that is out does fine.
