Maybe not quite as horrific as some of these, but still a bummer. I went to a barcade today that I don't think has ever cleaned their games

These were at Harveys in Lake Tahoe a couple of years ago.

Agreed. That Avatar and TSPP are pretty bad. I feel compelled to mail them a few bottles of Novus and CP100. (and maybe a backbox bulb for AC/DC)

The seller assured me this WASN’T a mouse nest. Just some crap under the glass.

I remember visiting Harveys in Tahoe back in '99 and playing South Park on every visit.

Probably wasn’t lying. The nest was under the playfield. They don’t like to crap where they sleep

I bought my TZ from a local operator 20 years ago right out of the bowling alley it was being operated in. It was so dirty you couldn't tell it had door panels in the center of the playfield. When I finally got it home and started tearing into it I found a pristine playfield under all the dirt. At least it limited the wear to the game.

Just once, I want to see a coffee table "repurposed" into a pinball machine.

The playfield is decent, made me cringe looking at the ad. One of the few zipper flipper games Williams made as well.

#1962 4 years ago

With the way that the table base is made, it looks like the playfield is just sitting in the base. That is one way to save a populated playfield, which shows it off.
However those corners on the glass top look like they could hit a shin or knee.

I picked up a Fireball home edition that was turned into a coffee table and turned it back into a pinball machine. Does that count?

It's not a disaster story or nasty....but the way this thing was put back together is driving me insane! And I can't find a data east parts list to save my life, to order all the messed up hardware...

One small example....not sure if this machine is a computer or a light switch cover but, wtf.

Whole damn machine has little crap like this....

Having a mixed up mess of any random fasteners available would bug me too. At least it should be easily fixed if you find proper fasteners for it.

From what I see, Data East doesnt have hardware lists and exploded views like other companies....so idk how I'm ever going to figure out "correct" hardware

Even closer hardware has crazy crap like double the length (if you can see it) lol.

Forgot pic, but even the gate in back for left/right orbit had wrong hardware and was put in BACKWARDS!!! So you could NEVER score orbit shots.....wtf!

If you post in the game specific thread and ask for tear down pictures I bet someone already has some details that will help. If not the next time someone shops a similar game they could note what hardware is used.

When I get my Meteor home I need to go through it too. Game plays great but a previous owner installed a mix of no matching post styles and mixed up the tall and short ones in the wrong area. Luckily someone posted great pictures so I know the right place for all of them.

FedEx is the worst.

Beautiful new backglass from Coos Hakvoort, trashed by idiots along the way. It was packaged so well that someone had to have drop kicked it on purpose.asset (resized).jpgasset (resized).jpg

#1977 4 years ago

Don't know him. A link?
Seems nice though. Did you open it with the delivery guy to complain?

#1978 4 years ago

Looks like standard glass, tempered would have left you with nothing but nice little pieces.

He's well known in the bingo community for his high-quality reproductions of glasses and hardware, but he does pinball stuff too. He's not cheap, but he's well worth the money. If you have a backglass that doesn't require mirroring, he can also sell easy-to-ship films which you can apply to glass yourself. Here is his website: http://www.coos.net/bingo_e/backglasses.html

The packaging was too big and under too many layers to open while the FedEx guy was here, and exterior damage was limited to some creasing and a puncture of the box... but once opened, is was all too obvious that the package had been stepped on. A total loss. Coos has offered to make me another and is pursuing a claim with FedEx. I've got to figure out on my end how I'm supposed to get the $100 of customs and import fees back from the Canuckistani government...

#1981 4 years ago

Thx a lot! Will surely come in handy one day!

For the taxes, if they're like here, they'll tell you that it's not their concern and that you should have denied the reception...
Or maybe Canadian customs are nicer than the Swiss ones

Went to play this a while back and found Rudy giving me the stink eye. I was terrified.

Quoted from Nihonmasa:

I've never met Swiss ones. I met German ones once, but the moment they heard that I was headed to Czechia they waved me through.

The Canada Border Service Agency has never been nice to me, but I'm not sure they're allowed to be. They do follow procedures to a fault, so if you have supporting documentation and you can fill in forms correctly, the experience is greatly improved. In this case, I can get duties and taxes refunded to me if I prove that I have exported the item... so it looks like I will be taking a hammer to the glass to break it into smaller pieces, and posting it back to Coos for disposal.

#1984 4 years ago

Semicolin I had a similar CBSA experience several years ago on a non-pinball items - had to prove to them I had returned the damaged item, but once I did they processed a refund relatively quickly. I hope your experience goes well.

Surly Mr. Robertson never expected his fasteners would be used in a pinball machine.

those games have generally white GI, unless its mode specific. Colored GI look like shit.

Wrong thread for this? I like colored GI, others may not. Take it to another thread. This thread is about pinball tradgedy. People neglecting or otherwise destroying pins.

I’m here to have fun. It’s a hobby. Keep it light, life it tough enough as is.

Personally, I won't disagree about led horrors I've seen.....but since there is a SPECIFIC thread on just that.....more than a small comment on occasion belongs there; just in my opinion.

Otherwise, THIS thread turns into THAT thread very quickly.

Not disagreeing, just NOT what I come to this thread for.....

I couldn’t finish watching it even after starting it 10 mins in. The guy annoyed me too much. Did he ever figure out how the tilt works after all that?
