Hey baby....ever seen a well hung transistor?

Wait....wrong forumn...

#1402 1 year ago
Quoted from Colsond3:

Either way, this PSB did not leave the factory with those transistors in place. They were added, so it’s a hack, “improvised repair” or modification.
And your comments that I “don’t know how it’s supposed to be” and “I’ll yell it’s wrong so I look smart” are condescending and unnecessary.
I have my collection history listed here, at least a good portion of games I’ve owned, unlike you. Take a look. I have owned over 10 System 1 games and have repaired several others, and I have never seen this on a power supply in one of them. So in my experience, my comments were appropriate.
No need to be derogatory towards other members in this thread. Keep that crap in the clown puke thread where all the other curmudgeons hang out.
You’ve agreed the board is a mess, and that is the purpose of this thread.

No, those transistors are mounted correctly.

just as seen here, need more?

what almost as if this was how the factory did it or something, mister I have experience and know all.

The board has issues, the transistors are not a hack. you are wrong.

#1403 1 year ago

The only things I'm noticing are the capacitors and ground wire on the back. Everything else appears to be stock.

The PCB might look a little odd since it's been removed from the metal mounting plate.

Quoted from Marvin:

mister I have experience and know all.

I never said I know it all, I said in my experience. And if that’s the case as you and ForceFlow posted, then I stand corrected and learned something.

That doesn’t change the fact that the way you post on here is condescending and rude. Lighten up man...it’s a friggin hobby.

you had already been informed that the transistors were correctly placed yet you responded with " This board did not leave the factory like that.", "Either way, this PSB did not leave the factory with those transistors in place. They were added, so it’s a hack, “improvised repair” or modification", and "I have my collection history listed here, at least a good portion of games I’ve owned, unlike you. Take a look. you did state your experience said the transistors were clearly not factory, in spite of being corrected. Who's being condescending?

#1407 1 year ago

Dang, chill out! His response was like that because you started in about him" trying to look smart". Could have just been a discussion. I would have thought the same thing if I found that in a box not knowing it's origin.

Well technically it did not leave the factory like that. It was attached to a metal mounting plate used as a heat sink.

Maybe those habitrails are still good? recoup some money and sell some “slightly used/minor smoke damage” parts?

Comic relief aside, that is horrible really, and I feel bad for this guy. That’s a true nightmare...
I actually moved all my power tools to my outdoor garage because a friend just lost his entire house all because he had an old DeWalt battery charging and it shorted, exploded and burned down his entire house along with his antique firearm collection.

One of the leading causes of house fires are those 12v/18v battery chargers. That’s extremely eye-opening. The manufactures get away with it with those little tags that say “never charge unattended”

DON’T LET IT HAPPEN TO YOU! CHARGE THEM OUTSIDE, IN A SHED, ANYWHERE THAT’S NOT INSIDE! Even if you must charge inside, put them in the middle of a concrete floor away from any flammable materials.

Stay safe!

#1417 1 year ago

Holy shit ! did a bushfire sweep through there? A sad loss.

Funhouse with raised inserts, barn dust. Might take ball guides and wire harness and build up a funhouse with nicer parts

Wow, was the whole game in a barn or just an old playfield? At least it can be a wallhanger

Ugh, that's gut wrenching. I feel bad for that guy...

Or, just don't leave them unattended...

True but typically you're not going to spend all the time in a room with the battery as it charges, it can take hours! Plus if it does explode and let's say you're sitting watching tv, you still need a fire extinguisher handy and will probably suffer some fire damage regardless! I'd say the true safe bet is a concrete floor away from flammable materials

Unattended, meaning not leaving the building. It's perfectly fine to go into another room.

If there isn't a extinguisher handy, that should probably be addressed. $15 at any hardware store.

A 15 dollar abc would be better than nothing. I personally would up it to a class C.

Electronic boards do not like abc. It's kinda like setting a corrosive bomb off on your machines. Like battery damage it will show its ugly head one day.

A little Novus, about 20 gallons of CP100 and about 40 hours of cleaning she might be ok

Beehive looks ok, at least the one on the shooter housing. Man, what a shame.

I’m surprised the backglass is as decent as it is. I’d expected it to be completely flaked.
Where is that located, and how much? It’s a disaster but I seriously bet it could be flipping decently with some extra TLC.

I went and bought a Maximum Force from this really crappy, somewhat cryptic letgo ad. They mentioned other arcade machines but I wasn’t able to get out there for over a month.
This place was quite literally the middle of nowhere. No cell service, an EIGHT MILE DEAD END ROAD. All the signs of “you’re going to get murdered out here”
7D1D003B-2551-4619-B056-0AF256B51643.jpeg
Finally I get to this hillbilly heaven of a few ramshackle houses and folks having big bonfires on their front lawns.

On the side of the house there’s a pile stacked to the roof of absolutely destroyed games: Super Hang-On, a dual Time Crisis, two Silent Scopes, some Konami flying games. All smashed to pieces.

The only two games left are Maximum force and an abortion of an X-men vs Street Fighter (with a Big Buck Hunter gun attached for some reason)

When I asked WHY they destroyed the games, this was the pearl of wisdom I received: “Well they wasn’t working right so we’s figured tuh scrap em”

I asked if they had anymore pieces or any pinball parts and they said those had already been destroyed.
F41518C8-18E1-401F-9432-EF99A58818F0.jpeg
I was looking around the piles of arcade tragedy and found this poor, pathetic Seawitch burned beneath a flight simulator. I wanted to save what was left immediately and they told me “well that’s ‘er burn pit, but if yous really wannit, it’s yers”

If I had just came in a month sooner I could have saved even more.
3D0B8270-4C35-4189-8A52-742B9FE7428F.jpeg
They smashed up over 30 arcade machines and a few pinball machines because they didn’t work and they figured nobody wanted them so they never even offered. I heard that several other brave souls ventured out before me and grabbed a game or two, but they weren’t as explorative as myself. Which is completely understandable because they also had a small pack of pit-bulls roaming the backyard and they weren’t terribly happy to see me.

All in all I never thought I’d be in this thread but here I am and let me tell you seeing this in personal was abysmal.

Now I understand the feeling. I could have possibly saved some more bits and pieces, but digging through all the destroyed cabs was just so damn disheartening.

#1444 1 year ago

^^ Kudos on saving what you did.

Playfield doesn’t look horrendous. Was it outside and rained on / exposed to the elements? Looks like the plastics and some other parts might be salvageable if the bottom and mechs are all rusted out.

#1445 1 year ago

I hope after you finished you told them how much money they just burned.

#1446 1 year ago

Did you have insurance? My insurance doesn't want to insure my pinballs for the correct amount, anyone else have problems like this?

It was outside in the rain and elements under the burn pile for a few weeks. They weren't sure exactly what they threw out when...
I tried to gently explain the whole concept to them but... these people only speak "Banjo"

They destroyed the other games because "they didn't work" and I was able to fix 2 of them simply by adjusting the v-sync and other adjustments on the monitors...

The Seawitch is in pretty good shape for the whole ordeal and I'm happy I was able to save it. I've gotten a surprising number of PMs so I'll have to take a closer look tonight. I was absolutely exhausted yesterday when I got it

That wasn't my shed. You'd have to ask the OP on AA. They've been quiet since posting the initial pics though I think.
