Quoted from Engine09:In a couple years with a new great theme and the superior build quality they'll steamroll right over Stern.
You can always give props to JJP without degrading Stern.
Why do people always feel the need to hurt others?

Quoted from Engine09:In a couple years with a new great theme and the superior build quality they'll steamroll right over Stern.

Why do people always feel the need to hurt others?
Quoted from Engine09:I don't feel that I am degrading Stern, the build quality of their pins is what it is.
I know you weren't around when Williams were NIB, but Stern's build quality is much better.
There was ALWAYS something wrong with new Williams; wrong coils, dead CPU, shorted wiring, and of course their paper thin plastic ramps.
I won't even go into the Williams games with lack of clear coat, unfinished code, poor plastics that would always break, or all of the spots that would trap the ball.
Quoted from Engine09:When I compare build quality the first thing that comes to mind is the quality/thickness of the wood used for playfields
This has been discussed and debunked.
If you missed it: http://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/playfield-dimple-reality-check
Quoted from Engine09:plastic aprons
Plastic aprons have been around for longer than Stern has been in business.
Gary has stated that they actually cost more than bent sheet metal.
Some love the look, some don't; but it does not have anything to do with "quality".
Quoted from Engine09:lack of a real knocker
Even Williams games like Space Shuttle (the game that saved pinball) did not have a knocker.
It has nothing to do with the "quality" of the game.
No big deal. If you need one for some reason, put one in.
Quoted from Engine09:flourescent lights in the back box
Again, pins have had fluorescent lighting long before Stern was in business.
If that gives the game the look the designers desired, so be it.
A backglass used to need spot lighting because areas were masked off with the final silver coat of paint. Nowadays translights are designed to use even lighting throughout.
Quoted from Newsom:And they have a long history of putting out games that they took months/years to update
So did Williams.
TZ was not finalized for what, 5 years?
Quoted from trilogybeer:I'm losing faith , JJP led me to believe that game #2 was going to an original theme by what they stated on their own website . I feel as though I've been lied to . I don't put much faith in liars.
JJP probably learned the same thing that Stern did, overseas distributors only order a couple of games with original themes, but hundreds with a licensed theme. Can't blame Jack for learning on his feet.
Also a remake of LOTR is good because it is a proven seller. Good, conservative move by Jack.
Quoted from unigroove:The WoZ license is not appealing to Europe at all.
Not WOZ, Hobbit.
Quoted from GAP:Why does jack need distributors when you can order from him
Usually overseas distributors save on shipping and customs fees by buying container loads at a time.
Quoted from TaylorVA:So 3k down on #2 when I still haven't gotten #1? No thanks.
C'mon, you have to keep the momentum going.
By next summer you will have your WOZ and will wish you had paid for a HLE too.
Quoted from absocountry2:How do you come up with $3K?
$500 - NOW
$1000 February 15, 2013
$1500 May 15, 2013
July delivery of WOZ
Quoted from txstargazer3:But they are $3,000 refundable dollars. Where is the risk?
Should JJP go under
95% of all businesses go under in 5 years or less.
Quoted from badbilly27:just sounds like I'm funding development of next game.
You are.
Quoted from badbilly27:Yup. Not an issue for you?
I look at it as: No one "needs" a pinball machine.
If you spend $7500 on a game, and the company goes under and you lose your money, it will hurt, but you won't die, because that $7500 was your "fun money".
Quoted from Crash:Not for some people... Lol.
You would not spend your only savings on a game you might never get, would you?
Or your kid's collage fund?
If you have $7500 to risk, it probably comes out of the money you would normally spend on a boat, snowmobile, motorcycle....your fun money.
If $7500 is A LOT of money to you, and you would jump out a window if JJP went out of business with your cash, DON'T buy the promise of a pinball machine.
Quoted from TomGWI:I don't want to die Vid.
One day when you are old, need help changing your diaper, have no sex life and everything hurts; you will wish for death.
Quoted from badbilly27:He's smart if he gets all of us to pay up front while he uses that cash to build a disti network and floats our cash.
That is exactly the point - Jack is smart.
He used everyone's money to start a new company. He did not take on investors who would end up owning him (or kicking him out at some point), he used you. You assumed the risk, but do not own a percentage of the company. Brilliant business move.
For the second game, Jack is even smarter.
Now there is a tiny window of opportunity that has magically opened before anyone has taken delivery of the first game they paid for. A "hurry up" to plow more cash into his business - again without you buying a percentage of the company.
I like Jack just for his business sense.
Quoted from badbilly27:the recession started because of poor loans in housing
That is a common misconception.
People who get risky loans have to buy PMI insurance to protect the mortgage company should the people default on their loan.
Quoted from badbilly27:From your posts, I respect your intellect. However, watch "Too Big to Fail" if you haven't already. I may have summarized shortly for posting space, but in a nutshell that was one of the first dominos to fall. Risky & creative loans and loosened requirements.
I'm blaming lax regulation !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/money-power-wall-street/
Quoted from Whysnow:I think this business model stinks for those that fronted the first project and stinks for those that are expected to front the second also.
It stinks for the buyer, because they are assuming all the risk, but it is a brilliant move for Jack.
Like he says; no problem for me, but is a problem for you
Quoted from Methos:Pre-ordering has been used from everything from retail to cars to music
Sure, but when you buy a car, you don't pay for it in full, then wait 2 years to get it AND even better, pay for your next car even before you took delivery on your first.
That is the best part about Jack - balls.
Jack knows the mind of the pinball player; they are gamblers. Do you take the 3x jackpot now, or risk it by waiting for the last ball when it is 5x? Of course you risk it for the 5x. Pinballers don't take the sure bets.
Quoted from playernumber4:Ummm...PMI either ran out of money or did not cover those losses.
That's what they want to to believe.
Watch all 4 episodes and learn:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/money-power-wall-street/
Quoted from Craig:If the refund policy is good, it might, just might, be worth it.
The refund policy is only as good as the company behind it.
Like a bank in the 1920's, if a few people want all their money out, no problem. But if everyone wants their money out, you have lost it all.
If the company goes out of business, you have lost it all.
Pinballers are gamblers....who said that?
Quoted from cichlid:So that's what I'm saying, if I bought TWO pinball machines I never played before for $15,000 , I'd be the biggest idiot in the world.
LOL
Quoted from Wolfmarsh:Come on, who doesn't know what a hobbit is.
Ack! Don't take the bait.
Quoted from Methos:Here is a question - If someone does not want a LE - what incentive is there to pre-order and pay for the machine a few years in advance? What do they get over someone who waits?
You get the advantage of playing the game first and seeing if it is any good.
Quoted from MrBally:Thank you Lloyd for the description. Believe it or not everyone, I had no idea what "The Hobbit" was until now. And as far as LOTR goes, I have not a clue what the real theme of the pin nor the movie(s) are about. In fact, the kid on the translight sorta reminds me of Harry Potter. And All I know about Harry Potter is there are a series of books that people wait in long lines for on the day of release. Haven't bought kids meals at Mickey D's in about 10-12 years and I don't do Burger King. I don't watch the Academy Award or Grammy's or Emmy's. I go to maybe three movies a year and maybe watch a handful a year at home.
About 8 or 9 years ago I went to a taping of the Tonight Show in Las Vegas. Pamela Anderson was a guest and, yes, I knew who she was. When another guest came out, the crowd went wild.... I had no clue who he/it was. The women next to me were baffled that I wasn't screaming like the other thousand people in the audience. I asked them was the person the one who plays Harry Potter? They said no, that's Clay Aiken. I said ok, who or what is Clay Aiken. They said don't you watch American Idol? I said no. They were baffled. And no, my wife wasn't with me, she chose the casino floor over the taping of Leno.
About 30 years ago I was at the home of an attorney who was one of the silent partners in the route op business I worked for. He asked me if I ever read The Hobbit. When I said no and that I never heard of it until the moment he mentioned it, he said I should as every kid should have read it. I never did.
There is a Detroit joke in there somewhere.....
