Quoted from Pinball-Wiz:I'm in Vegas this week on business, so of course I stopped by the PHOF to play some games. I've heard a lot of good things about this place, and it is indeed awesome if you like pinball. It's not all that I thought it would be, however, and came up short in a lot of ways for me personally. I was surprised at a lot of things, as I expected this to be the complete mecca of being able to play all the titles I can't own due to money/space. Boy was I wrong.
I figured I'd put some time on the new Stern title, Mustang, and was surprised that the PHOF didn't have it. If there was any place on earth I figured I could go to to find a new machine, I figured this would be the place. I found Tim Arnold working on a machine there and after his baffled and surprised look that someone was actually talking to him, he told me that "we've decided to pass on that one". I just said "OK" and moved on. Not sure why they would do that, I'm sure it's not a money thing? The place has been lively with plenty of people putting money into machines the couple of times I've been there.
I also love the 80's Bally machines, and there not very many early 80's machines that I would expect at a place like this- Titles that are missing include Centaur, Fathom, Paragon, Embryon, Medusa, and many more early 80's machines. WTF? This is the "hall of fame", right? Lots of early 90's gottliebs are missing also (just about none are there). While I can partially understand why Mustang was a pass, I have no idea why the big hit early 80's machines are missing.
I also figured this would be the place to play the ultra rare title of "Big Bang Bar", but that was missing also. ugh.
Am I grateful that PHOF is there? Hell yes. Do I think it could be more? Yep, way more.
Just venting and opening this up for conversation. Luckily there is way too much more to do in vegas anyways.
Tread lightly....
In my opinion, I think the problem is your expectations more than the PHOF. It is surprising that they don't have a Mustang but they can pass on games if they want to. They don't have an Avengers either IIRC.
The fact is they have a lot of games from all eras of pinball. Not by every manufacturer or designer, but a great diversity. I'd much rather be able to play woodrails that are more rare than the newest Stern. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, obviously, and this is just mine.
