Having just moved to Vegas and acquired my first Pinball (Creature From The Black Lagoon) I have discovered that I live 10 minutes from the Pinball Hall Of Fame ..... Wooo Hoo

Creature was always going to be my first pinball as I spent many hours playing it on my first visit to Vegas in 92. I love everything about the game and just had to get one when I moved here.

I 'm now thinking of what machine I should get next, but don't have experience on any other machines. (Prior to playing Creature I used to play in arcades in the 70s/80s but never on any single machine for long, and cannot remember any of those games.)

So, I'm looking for some advice on which machines I should try out at the PHOF. I know everyone has their own preferences on what machines they like, game play etc. But given that I love Creature, what games do you think I should spend my time trying at the PHOF? (There are soooooo many there, I want to try and narrow the field down!)

Try them all. You might decide not to buy another machine.

Trying them all would be nice, but very time consuming.
I'm trying to narrow down the playing field to save some time.

If you like CFTBL you may also like other pins by John Trudeau made in that era: Black Rose, Judge Dredd, Congo.
If you want more monsters, check out Monster Bash and the Elvira pins.
When I first played CFTBL, it was located between Twilight Zone and Funhouse. Check those out.
With more time, I would just go down the Pinside top 100 list at the museum to experience what folks think are the best games. You'll form your own opinion soon enough. I've noticed over time, my taste in games changes/matures. Welcome to the hobby!

There are so many it's hard to make a list. Walk around and play anything that look interesting.

I thought I had read they were moving? I'm headed to Vegas in a few days for CES, might need to make a pit stop...

    When is the move happening?

You could use the Pinside rankings as a guide. They’re heavily slanted toward DMD pins so maybe pick the top 10 by decade as a starting point.

Not for a good while. The new building hasn't even been built yet.

I'm heading to Vegas for a conference at The Orleans. I'm planning on visiting the Pinball Hall of Fame. Any other spots I should check out?

Are you just looking for pins, or any recommendations ? The arcade in NYNY has a nice line up of pins, mainly newer Sterns, and never very busy. Sit at a penny slot that has a cocktail waitress, get a double (insert bourbon of choice here) and head back to the arcade, repeat as needed!

Do the cocktail waitress come to penny slots at NYNY? The only cheap game I've been able to get regular drinks at are games that handle multiple people (like the Sigma Derby in MGM Grand). As long as they are getting tipped they will basically make sure your never without a drink.

They have in my experience at least, but I'm also fairly proactive at flagging them down when I see them walk by - I've got no shame ha. When we were there in November, I would wander around until I saw one, walk up and order a drink as I sat down, put a buck in a slot and sit there until she came back, and then leave.

Or just plan ahead, hit CVS and grab a tall boy or two and skip the middle man .

Personally I like late 80's thru 90's games, not too complex and easy to catch onto but can grow old quicker. Newer games have deeper rules which I often don't "get" for several plays, but that is fine for home use games as you'll have time to figure it out and the many modes offer more to discover.

Of my 4 games 3 just fell into my lap as I was not looking for that title but the price was right. I have come to enjoy them all. If you like the theme of a particular machine that is a good start.
