I've read some of the posts on here and shake my head.

I've been to PHOF a dozen times throughout the years. Been addicted to pins since the early 1960's. (Yep: I'm old)

I've seeked Tim out most visits and although I knew he didn't remember me (why would he?), he's always been over the top friendly and respectful.

All he asks is to not have unsupervised kids running around, don't abuse the pins, and wear your mask while playing so he can stay open. Dude doesn't suffer fools which is why I like him.

    Donated.

Took a drive to PHOF yesterday. Had a blast playing a bunch of newer games for the first time (EHOH, TMNT, JP) and older ems. Every other machine is turned off for physical distancing but Tim will turn a game on that you want to play if you ask him. Dropped over $20 in quarters and played until my wrists were sore.

Bought a T-shirt which gets me into the soft opening of the new PHOF when it opens. Had a blast playing and I'm looking forward to returning next week.

Of course, I had to stop at Sammy's L.A. Pastrami a couple of blocks away to bring home dinner. Best pastrami around.

    Quoted from fireball2:

That's what I'm talking about, Daddio! Did you give the new location a driveby?
    Can't wait!

I didn't but I will in a couple of weeks when I return. Only an hour and a half from our new home so I'm gonna be there alot.

I thought of you when I was killin' it on Title Fight.

    Quoted from MrBally:

The drive in from the North is pretty neat these days with the Jumbotron on Circa.
I agree that Sammy's is great for drive up and take home. As good as The Hat locations in La-La Land. But if you want to sit down and eat at a Deli in Las Vegas and not deal with the strip; go a couple miles from the current PHoF to Weiss Deli on Sunset & Green Valley Parkway. You won't be disappointed.
    [quoted image][quoted image]

Thanks for the tip....I'll check out Weiss' Deli next time!

    Quoted from fireball2:

What'd you score? Didja get the Gold Belt?
I'm headed out there in May or June. So stoked. I'ma meet you there Daddio. Get me a shirt next time so I'm prepped. Paya back!
Also I might take up on that casa of yers sometime in June...

Don't remember my score but got a free game. For some reason, the pins I scored the most replays on were Champion Pub and Deadpool.

I'll pick you up a shirt next time I go. Color? Size? (I'm guessin' medium)

Our casita is waitin' for you anytime, Brother! Murphy bed, bathroom/shower, microwave, coffee maker, AC, cable TV and hopefully a new pin by the time you get here!

    Quoted from Crispy77:

I would love to buy some merch! are there any shirts or anything from PHOF??

Tim sells PHOF shirts for $20.

He's also talked about adding more merch in the future.

    Gotta agree with you, Steven.

    Welcome back, again. (I guess)

I would love to buy some merch! are there any shirts or anything from PHOF??

I really like the shirt. I’ll wear it often. I like the fact that it’s not flashy.

    Quoted from MrBally:

    VonnieD, Heighway, Dutch etc.
Note that Dutch Pinball is not related to Dutch Bros. Coffee which has several Las Vegas and Reno locations.

    Love the VonnieD reference.

    Pinball Gremlins....we hardly knew ye.

    Quoted from poppapin:

I'd buy some merch, is there a site to order from?

No. They have them for sale behind the counter.

    #451 3 years ago
    Quoted from fireball2:

    This guy gets it!

To me, Tim's a rock star.

I approached him to ask where to buy T-shirts even though I knew where they were. Just wanted to say "Hi" but wanted a reason to bug him.

Now I can't get the image of him with his headlight out of my mind.

    #488 3 years ago
    Quoted from Roostking:

Soo, hes busy and you felt the need to bug him? How about we leave him alone to build this, unless you wish to greet him, with a $100 in your hand. Damn, I'm no where near as important, but if you come to my cube with some stupid shit, you wont come back again.
Let him work. I dont feel like he wants to be a celebrity, he wont make you one by meeting him.
This is not directed at any one person, but your post is not the first one, so figured I'd address...
I could be wrong and Tim might welcome interruptions every 3 minutes. I doubt I am.

    Damn....Who pissed in your Cheerios?

My "stupid shit" went as follows.

I see Tim standing around not doing anything at the time.

Me: "Hey Tim...congratulations on the new building! Can't wait to see it"

Tim: (gracious as always) "Thanks... It's coming along pretty good!"

    Me: "You still have T-shirts?"

    Tim: "Yeah...behind the counter."

    Me: Thanks...Have a good day!

    Tim: "You too!"

It's not like I was the guy that drones on about a pin that I played when I was 12 but can't remember the name of it.

...and for what it's worth, in addition to spending $40 that day at PHOF, I also contributed to his GoFundMe and have been a supporter since '06. Throughout the years, I've contributed way more than the $100 you suggested that I hand him.

You sound like a blast to work with. I'm sure no one dare approach you in your "cube".

    #493 3 years ago
    Quoted from Kilowog:

I like that too. Can you buy on-line? Looked around for a link to the merchandise, but didn't come up with one.

No...He sells them only at PHOF at this time.

    #501 3 years ago
    Quoted from Roostking:

    Ugh. Much confuse.

    Yeah...I know.

Well, since you seemed to be so obsessed on such a minor thing...

Downvoted for hijacking a positive thread with so much anger. The weird thing is, you're one of the Pinsiders that have been here for years who I've enjoyed and have upvoted your posts. Not sure why my innocuous post set you off and at this point I no longer care.

    Back to important stuff....

Almost at 100k....Lets keep this thread near the top. https://www.gofundme.com/f/new-museum-building-on-las-vegas-strip?utm_campaign=m_pd+share-sheet&utm_medium=sms&utm_source=customer-andr

Having a tough day? A shot (or two) of bourbon and some pinball always takes the edge off for me.

    My new mantra.

    Quoted from Coindork:

Thought I would share a PHOF story to keep the thread more upbeat.
Last time I was there I stopped in with a buddy on our way back from Idaho picking up a few machines.
They had just finished fixing one of the old Mold O-Rama machine that was at Disneyland back in the day. More specifically the one that makes the Donald Duck figurine.
I sat there watching them tinker on it for a while trying to get it to function properly. There were a few malformed Donal Duck figures off to the side, where I’m guessing didn’t get enough plastic or the mold didn’t fill up all the way.
They got it dialed in while I was standing there watching, started it up and then there was that smell. A smell I had not smelled since I was a little kid. A smell of melted crayon like plastic, warm and powerful, but not overpowering.
The guys working on the machine asked if I wanted to try it, so I did. I wound up making two actually (one for each of my kids) and for a brief moment in time I felt like a little kid at Disneyland again.

    Terrific story!

When I was there last week, I saw that machine which I had forgotten was there.

I called my daughter (who's a Disney addict) to see if she wanted me to get her one. She said "no"; she preferred to come in, put the coins in, wait for it to be made and enjoy the smells that you were speaking of.

    I totally understood.

    Quoted from fireball2:

I'ma bring you both one of these days, my brother!

Looking forward to it!!! First stop: PHOF!

    #551 3 years ago
    Quoted from fireball2:

Uncle Pinball is done with the haters and backseat drivers. But he's stoked on his new Trident controlled by an Arduino Nano with boss new code. Also other stuff.
If you are a real pinhead and want to "support pinball," donate to PHOF. If you aren't and/or don't, we don't need to hear about it. For once, yes, this is a thread that should be a love fest with nobody "just saying." Put up or shut up.

If you buy a T-shirt while visiting PHOF ($20), you get access to the new building for their soft opening.

Wait...I always heard that most of the profits went to the Salvation Army.

    Quoted from vdojaq:

I will step out on the limb and say 2 things. I believe Tim is afraid of giving up ANY control, and he is frugal.

I have a buddy that has excellent pinball repair skills, especially ems. While in town for a few days, he offered to volunteer to fix whatever Tim needed but was promptly put on the pay no mind list. Tim refused to let him do anything.

I live close enough that for awhile, I was going to PHOF 2-3 times a month. The last few trips were so disappointing that I skip it now whenever I'm in Vegas. I never thought I'd say it, but I miss the Tropicana location.

    #1036 1 year ago

Untrue and totally unnecesssary to the discussion.

    #1042 1 year ago
    Quoted from Chrizg:

Quotes from Trip Advisor reviews. Maybe this is why Tim can't get anything fixed since he just follows kids around.
Miserable elderly man with, thick glasses a pony tail and headlamp walks around and ruins the vibe. Was told he is a partial owner. Been here 3 times in 2 years. Each time we come with adults and kids he walks around and tells/ berates kids for running and not using inside voices.
We went with our 2 year old daughter. One of the employees (extremely rude older gentleman) followed us around and harrassed us.
We were visiting with friends from out of state with 6 year old child. The older man kept reprimanding us with everything machine we touched. Followed us around like a hawk. Staff not pleasant either!!
We proceeded to try to finish up our coins and went to the other side of the building hoping he would leave us alone. I can see the man follow behind us and watch us. Staring at us! (Creep) As my kids were playing the car games the one next to it was broken.. my 4 year old was sitting in that chair pretending the game worked. Just pretending to drive. Not yelling not climbing not jumping just being 4 thinking she was driving. My husband said great he’s coming back. I looked behind me and he’s Rushing towards me. He then proceeded to yell and say You need to get your daughter off of there this is not a Chuck E. Cheese.
Tom Arnold followed us out, threatening us and antagonizing the situation. He informed us that this was not a place for children.

A few reviews out of almost 3000 with an average of 4.5 out of 5.

Look, I get it. Tim can be a curmudgeon and isn't the most social person in the world. A quick check on here will show that while I appreciate PHOF and what Tim has accomplished, I'm also one of his critics, especially about maintaining his pins.

I was just taking exception to the "creeped on" line. It has a terrible connotation especially when referring to children.

    #1046 1 year ago
    Quoted from TheOnlyest:

I don't usually get involved in this kind of drama, and I wont speak ill of Tim, I certainly don't envy all the BS he has to deal with, but...
I live in Las Vegas, and I have 30 years of (SS) pinball tech experience, including becoming Bally/Williams factory trained and certified back in 1992. Plus I have a degree in electronics engineering. I was also the lead tech at the NY-NY hotel/casino arcade for just short of 4 years (2014-2018). I even have 12 B/W games of my own, all 100% clean, maintained and functional!
There have been multiple discussions over the past 6-7 years between myself and Tim, Beth, and another highly respected (but powerless) individual at PHoF, about me working full-time over there, and I've been blown off by Tim and Beth on the follow-up on every single occasion. And I feel pretty rear-ended over all of it.
I am 55 now, and this would have been a dream career change for me, and I would LOVE to get out of the casino/resort environment. But I can't and wont work for free, especially not for millionaires! I have bills to pay, and Las Vegas is a VERY expensive place to live! I must maintain at least a $75K/year salary (I am currently making more than that) to live comfortably.
Before the new building was even blueprinted, I was told they were going to shift to a for-profit model and have a paid staff, And I would be at the top of the list for lead tech. Obviously none of that was true or happened. I strongly believe, and apparently most of you guys agree, that this change of course would have certainly reversed the stigma of the PHoF being something of a pinball graveyard of dead games... Every time I think about what I could, and would have done to help that place be even more successful... I default to the text-book definition of "insanity".

By any chance are you the guy that used to have the pins at NYNY? Those used to play like they were fresh out of the box. I'm bummed that they're no longer there.

    #1055 1 year ago
    Quoted from Luckydogg420:

Maybe install a PA system and play background music interrupted by friendly reminders to play safe and have fun. Following people around and confronting them doesn’t sound like the best solution. I wouldn’t want that kind of stress in my life.

They do this now although with no background music. I generally spend 2-3 hours there and I hear employees reminding kids not to run 5-6 times per visit.
