    Quoted from haveaniceswim:

Congrats to Tim and the whole crew! I was planning on making another donation on payday (March 1). Maybe I’ll save it and the April/May/June payday donations and come on July 1 to make a 5x donation... in QUARTERS! Can’t wait!!!!!!!
Hey Tim, please make sure your A/C is up to snuff. Vegas in July... hot...hot...hot!

Yeah, that is my new plan too. I was planning on 2 more donations after the 3 I have already made to hit my personal pledge. But since the goal is hit and I will be there in August, I plan to dump a bucketload of quarters in the games at that time!

    #703 3 years ago

    This is FANTASTIC news!!

    #704 3 years ago

I've only been to the PHOF once over 4 years ago, and when I initially saw this thread I was deeply saddened by thinking that something so awesome could be yet another victim of the pandemic, and gone for good. After donating early on in the go fund me campaign I watched the total raised slow down over time while only being half way to it's goal, and the grim reality started to sink in.

Learning of this news, and watching the video brought me an intense sense of relief that surprised me.

In the world today it's comforting to see people with heart take action.

    It's a good day!

Hot damn! Congrats PBHF! I'll be there mayby by late September, to hot in july August.
    Cant wait.

Great news for Pinball - may need to make a road trip this summer!!

    #708 3 years ago
    Quoted from uncivil_engineer:

    Tim,
Maybe you could organize a few dates for volunteers to come down and help setup. Since there are no shows this spring, I’d love to come to Vegas for a weekend to help out.

I'd be interested in the same.

    Quoted from timarnold:

Tim here with a quick update.
I have been spending a LOT of time in the last week handling many little details on getting the new building's CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY. The work is almost all done, all that remains is finishing the electric coming up out of the floor in long rows behind the games. This should be done Monday or Tuesday next week. Then we can call for a first inspection, which will allows us to load in equipment, but not open to the public.
We are crossing the finish line on the building side, but remember, the billing lags by 30 days, so we still have to pay up first of the month. Then, when it is all done, there is a 5 percent retention that has to be paid 45 days after we get the keys. That will be 150 large. Then there is the low voltage systems like camera, alarm, and audio which will require another 60 to 100K.
Then there is the second half of the signage due on completion, 270K.
I am still doing a lot of media to get more NEW people to contribute and get us to 200K. As you can see by the above video, sometimes they use language that is not really appropriate. We are NOT going bankrupt, we are having a classic cash flow problem, brought on by the worst drop in income for the amusement class in modern history. I am not crying wolf here. We had a plan. A good, solid, well thought out and cautious plan. All we thought was going to in the bank did not show up.
PLEASE, if you can help, send some money to the gofundme. Or contact me directly about a large donation without the fees. If you have another group, hobby or interest where you can push this fundraiser, LINK LIKE CRAZY!
I thank you. The staff thanks you. Even the PORANGE thanks you!

    Your welcome...

    Quoted from miracleman:

I'm gonna guess it was Nic Cage, since he moved to Vegas around 2006.

I just can't imagine how much a fucking movie studio paid to re-theme Devil's Dare....

Wow. Almost too nice. Should be be unbelievable.

Everything looks great. I just hope it's not booked for a private trade show on the weekend we end up in Las Vegas.

I am slightly confused. word I heard Tim was a millionaire like over 25 years ago?

Mike, are you still sore about Tim's Expo handout from years ago that said that one of the organizers "has a burr up his ass"???

Sad day indeed that Devil's Dare - clearcoated no less - was sacrificed for a mouse game.

Pour one out for the homies that can't be with us anymore.

I’ve visited the new location a few times and am a regular at the current place.

You can literally see the new PHoF from the Vegas sign. It’s literally across the street.

Of course I donated as well. I live in Vegas and spend 100x more time at the Hall of Fame than the Strip (or any casino for that matter).

    #723 3 years ago

That is so awesome. Congragulations Tim. I've been following this story as I visited Vegas in 2008 and was at the PHOF every day for the week I was there.

    #724 3 years ago

Donation made, Go Fund Me is still accepting-as there are more hurtles to jump-GO PHOF !!

I have to admit I am a bit salty at Tim asking for more donations even though the funding goal was reached. Like, don’t be greedy.

    #726 3 years ago

A few more bucks over the goal sure won't hurt. There will probably be some unexpected expenses as they finish off the building. More donations past the goal will be put to good use and help cover unforseen costs as they cross the finish line. Tim said they may get some more general exposure and hence leaving the Go Fund Me run a bit longer is a positive thing. Might get some more donations beyond the "pinball" community with increases in exposure, and maybe some more general public checking out the new facility when it opens.

Tim should have figured an extra 20% in the budget in the beginning which would have been 2 million dollars that would've covered unforeseen cost that's how I budget my projects and now pin purchases as prices for everything just keeps going up

Tim had a well thought out financial plan but COVID severely reduced their income, which had been stable for nearly 20 years.

Asking for assistance is pretty minor considering how much Tim has given back to the community through charitable contributions.

Looking forward to visiting the new location!

Its not like their expenses stopped. Their goal was based on what was critical - not what was inclusive

For instance, i don’t think their strip sign was in their critical opening costs at all.. (my inference from how he’s spoken about the sign and its design since they went into the fundraising mode).

Where did he say he was still asking for donations? He is leaving the campaign up for people to voluntarily contribute to if they still want to as the Washington Post article was already prepared and is being published regardless. As you can see, this man was doing everything he possibly could to keep pinball preservation alive and clearly the timing of the last donation was unexpected.

    ...and you're sauced because a non-profit that:

    a) provides a pretty awesome service (an ongoing arcade location with a huge variety of playable pins) to the pinball community, and

    b) has a proven track record of donating substantial sums to empower another non-profit that feeds and shelters the homeless and destitute,

is asking the public to provide financial support to their charity?

I think that says more about you than it does about them.

    39
    #735 3 years ago

..and allow me to make one more point while I am riled up about people's judgey (is that a word?) attitude.

You may not have thought about this, but the amazing thing Tim is doing, WHICH LIKELY NONE OF YOU CRITICIZERS ARE DOING, is he is re-directing funds that individuals spend on ENTERTAINMENT, and channelling those funds to PUBLIC SERVICE. Who thinks to do that? Tim wants to help others, and instead of opening a charity and continually asking for donations, instead he provides a venue to entertain the "donors", and then gives away the profits to charity! I would guess that most patrons of the PHoF don't even realize they are helping a fellow human being in need by playing a game of pinball.

Seriously, have you not seen the checks he's posted before, about how much money is going to the Salvation Army? Talk about accountable! Tim was posting the monthly donation checks for years. And do you not know that the reason the PHoF donates to the Salvation Army is because the PHoF has done their research, and determined that this one charity does the most good for those in need with the funds donated to them?

Who else among us can claim to have helped those in need to the level that Tim has over these past years? Probably not many, if any, of us. So please don't throw rocks at the one guy that is being the most effective among us in serving his fellow man. Instead, let's thank him, and support the efforts of the person getting it done.

Well done, Tim Arnold, and well done, Pinball Hall of Fame !!!

People seem to get pissed at Tim because he knows how to leverage things- money, people, good will... he is rough around the edges but he is very diligent and caring for others. He has taken a passion for pinball and turned it into a force of good will, giving back something to everyone he comes in contact with, wether its a donation, recommendation, promotion or just getting the right people to talk to the right people, Tim seems to always figure a way to get it done, on a shoestring budget and by pissing off the least amount of people, or sometimes, better yet, pissing off just the right amount people to get them to do the right thing. If nothing else, Tim is effective and hard working and is not out to be your friend, but out to complete his mission. If it wasn't for the PHOF, there are machines I would never have got to play, and he has done more for pinball than almost everyone who would criticize him here on pinside. I donated $100 bucks to the GFM campaign and I drop $40 to $50 bucks into the machines when I visit, which is often since its just a short trip from Phoenix. If I have any coin left and its time to go, I just walk down the line and drop them into the machines and leave the credits on them for others to play. Tim gets the donation, and who knows, some young kid just might catch the pinball fever after playing a couple of free games.

    My point exactly emguy!

    #738 3 years ago

garnered from public information, here are some approximate fair market value balance sheets for the phof.

jan 2018 is before any transactions relating to the strip property. jan 2019 is after the strip land acquisition. the last three are after committing to developing the strip property. the first 2021 reflects their position before deciding to run a go fund me. the 2nd 2021 reflects borrowing 300K instead of running a go fund me. the 3rd 2021 reflects receiving 300K in donations vs borrowing 300K.

The place needs some landscaping. A few trees and grass would be nice and lose that billboard.

Las Vegas severely limits where you can have grass.

A cool pinball mural on those blank building walls would be cool, but no idea what the size limits are in Vegas for murals.

I believe Tim said on the front will be the word 'PINBALL' in lit letters from top to bottom.
And in addition a free standing sign at the road/entrance.

It's not the same without an ad from "The Love Store" being shown on the billboard to the Northbound traffic lanes welcoming friends and lovers to the town of high morals & virtue...

    #748 3 years ago

The billboard was already there when we bought the land and had an ironclad contract with 20 years left to run. We got it to fit into a traffic island and have come to peace with it being there. We have NO say on what is advertised on it.

It does pay us 1700 dollars a month, which makes it a big financial benefit.

Load in has started. Tony and I have done 6 truck loads of stuff in the first 2 days. Final inspections and sign offs are this coming week. If thre are no problems, then we are free to close old location and open at new as soon as Business license transfers us.
