    Quoted from John_I:

Dude, vdojaq's wife is black for all you know. The most prejudiced people I know are also the ones calling everyone else racist.

What nonsense. It was a blatantly racist comment. Letting that stuff slide is exactly what allows racism to become normalized and accepted, and why racists tend to believe they're just saying what everyone else is thinking. Excusing it is an act of cowardice.

    Quoted from pezpunk:

Racist jokes are racist. It's weird that this has to be explained to you.

Unfortunately for many of us, they're also very funny, and we have to deal with people pooping on our fun.

Just remember, folks: I'm not a racist. I hate all people equally.

    Quoted from ViolinSteve:

Wow. She was obviously joking. But, oh well, just fire off an insulting remark at her anyway.

Whenever I feel down about the world I just think of pez and how much good there really is out there. Afterall, God was made in his image ya know. He may be the only person on Earth that is able to play pinball with one hand whilst the other is constantly patting himself on the back.

And jokes are jokes. Dave Chapelle is still one of the highest paid comedians out there. Ever watch his show? Notice anything?

    Quoted from pezpunk:

Nobody has to explain it. We all know it's a racist comment. Most of us can assume she was joking and move on. No morality police needed to stir the pot.

    #56 8 years ago

Look at all the people swooping in to defend an overtly racist comment. I honestly thought pinside was better than this. Sad.

    #57 8 years ago
    Quoted from Tilt:

Yep, it was me. I told some friends but didnt make a thread about it

Today your picture is also on MSN.Com. 'ET Online' has posted a photo of you, Pat, & Nura. More Famous, well for 15 minutes at least.

I've given a stranger (who was black), a ride home from the airport before at 1 am due to a delayed flight. His mother was ill and his uncle was too old to be out that late to pick him up I guess. I didn't know where the hell I was going because I had just moved out of state and this was before every phone had a gps. Ended up going over an hour out of my way and didn't make it home until 2:30 am. Please continue to preach to me how awful and racist every person here is though.

Ok so clearly you don't get it. Racism presented in the form of a joke doesn't make it any less racist. The humor is based on the racist idea that all black people get handouts from the government. That payload of racism is sincere.

Are you implying that one nonracist act on your part excuses one racist one? That's an incredibly weird concept.

    #61 8 years ago

    Oh good Lord.
Pez, I agree that it was a racist remark. I agree that saying it in jest doesn't make it less racist.
Everyone's said their thing about the racism. Can we just move on to congratulating Troy?

Edit: If anyone's got the plastic ramp for a Raven that they want to sell, let me know.

I'm not implying anything. I'm saying your quick (albeit perfect!!!) judgement to lump a large group of people together that can actually recognize a joke for what it is as racists, is as short sighted and narrowminded as you seem to think the originator of the joke is. The problem is always everyone else. Never your large blanket of perfect moral judgement.

Troy, can't wait to hear more about how the actual studio and experience were.

What was it like back stage? How did they prep you? Do they "prescreen" what your answers to who you are/etc.. are going to be?

I have never claimed to be any better than anyone else.

calling out an overtly racist comment should be seen as an obvious and noncontroversial thing to do. It is disheartening that a ton of you want to rush to his defense, pretend it's not racist because it's a joke, pretend it's not racist because of the extraordinarily remote possibility that the person who said it could potentially be black, or because not tolerating racism makes me some kind of paragon of arrogance.

    Let's move on.

Holy smokes, came in here to read a cool story about a Pinsider on WoF, and here I am, two pages in, wondering how it got derailed into a massive conversation on racism.

Stop already. I don't care who is "right" or "wrong" in this battle, and it doesn't matter what is funny, not funny, offensive, or not offensive. By now, everyone has made up their own minds on what was said, and how it was responded to.

    It's over.

    Let's move on.

Is this episode going to be replayed at some point? I totally missed it.

    Would love to see it...

Nah, don't bother. It was a pretty racist episode. African American woman giving her money to The Man. You didn't miss anything.

I think you guys got it backwards, at least that was my observation.

My initial reaction was that she was attempting to cheat by not calling letters
I even texted Troy after the broadcast and said that I can't believe that they didn't call her out for not guessing letters.
I bet they change the rules after that one.

I believe that she was not guessing letters and continued letting the other players fill in the blanks in the hope that she would benefit from the other players letter guesses, and therefore would not be giving "them" the advantage of seeing a possible multiple letter guess by her in the puzzle.

Everyone on that game was trying to win!
I doubt that she was giving money away to the others.
No proof, just my opinion from my observation of the broadcast.

...or, as it turned out, exactly what I said in my post just above yours.

    #73 8 years ago

It was a weird ending, but I have to agree with Gatordad. I think it was more gaming the game than an act of altruism. If her intentions were to give the puzzle to someone else, why not guess a letter and then remain silent?

    Some racist jokes are funny.

Seeing a black woman on tv and saying "She's probably on public assistance..."

That doesn't even qualify as a joke. What's funny about it?

If you think ALL racist jokes are funny at best you have a terrible sense of humor.

I seriously did not READ it. Do you always read every post in a thread before replying? Beezlebob's little nugget of wisdom was posted right at the top of the page.

This thread is retarded... oh no I can't say that sorry it's offensive...

    Any good feedback on Vanna?

    Hot? Gross up close, etc?

    So she's probably 68.

Yep, Pez may take a stand on a lot of things but I doubt seriously he would do that on environmental issues. Otherwise he would be driving a Prius instead of a Detroit muscle car.

it also gave me enough to buy a Wheel of Fortune pin,

Did you ask anyone if they thought the WOF code would ever be finished?

    #83 8 years ago
    Quoted from pezpunk:

your wife is a racist jerk. she sees a black woman and that's the first place her mind goes?

    Well sir,

Let me first educate you on the term racist:
    rac·ist
    ˈrāsəst/
    noun
    1.
a person who believes that a particular race is superior to another.
synonyms: racial bigot, racialist, xenophobe, chauvinist, supremacist More
    adjective
    1.
having or showing the belief that a particular race is superior to another.
"we are investigating complaints about racist abuse at the club"

She made an off color joke about her possible social position. YOU made the assumption the comment was because she was black, YOU made it about racism. Comedic relief comes in many forms of suggestion, sometimes at the expense of the person, persons, or ethnicity it belongs to. Doesn't make it racist. Could it be considered offensive? Yep, you bet. Most comedy is offensive. But since you took it to the level of calling my wife a racist jerk, you may want to look in the mirror to find the real "jerk". Or better yet, call me the jerk for posting it. I LMAO at the comment when it was made. Therefore I am a racist too? You sir need a reality check.

I have made my point and will no longer touch this. Lets get back on track and not lock this thread. However, pezpunk wishes to PM me in private I am open to any discussion.

    #84 8 years ago

I also agree that it may have been strategy after reading through this "all". I never even considered it a strategy not to give the others a chance by giving them clues with good letters. Maybe a part of her military experience?

Vanna's face looks painted on these days

    #85 8 years ago

I asked about as nicely as I could.

    Many ignored my request.

    Closed.

    Sorry.
