There is great line up of EMs at the Expo-71 EMs of a total of 180 machines. Heading down tomorrow to see machines I have never seen before and meet local & New Zealand pinsiders.

Looks like fun wayner. Better watch it or you'll want to start acquiring older games after this show! You already have a Rocket Ship (50's) so maybe a nice 60's game next - Kings and Queens, King of Diamonds, Slick Chick, etc.?
The addiction never ends!

So right hoov- in fact I was near to purchasing separately a Kings & Queens and Slick Chick about 6 mths ago-both in pristine condition but didn't go ahead. I also like that damn Williams Crane on ebay about 5mins away from my Atlantis shipping point!!
Quoted from hoov:Haha
Enjoy that Mermaid. Not too many of those anywhere. Clay has one at his new digs in Michigan.
Well hoov the 'Mermaid' was nowhere to be found. Now there is a message there!! This was the case with a no of EMs which had been listed in the advertising brochure. I was also hopeful of getting to play 'Knockout' but dammit it was non operational. Of the other woodrails I concluded that these earlier machines incl their 2" flippers really need to be well tuned to provide enjoyable play-and these were not!!!
Yep sure did hoov. It was a tremendous venue, great access & parking and with loads of space in a well organised layout of machines in their assigned category. I recognise it is not easy staging these specialised events in Australia particularly if you do not want to 'go down the gurgler' financially. So it was a brave & well appreciated promotion with super friendly staff.
It was particularly great to see 'in the flesh' & play machines that I had only seen on the internet or read about. I really enjoyed playing Golden Arrow, Rollercoaster, Sky Divers, Blue Note, Fireball & a host of other machines.
My only concern was that I thought from an EM perspective that machines generally were not presented in a way that showed their true playability. Now maybe I am being a bit picky and this is the way it is at shows but I hope not. A staff member commented to me "these machines have been in a warehouse for 34 years"!!
For me if we want EMs to live on & generate a new breed of disciples they must be presented in a way where a real appreciation of their playability is conveyed and I think shows are an important part of achieving this expectation.

+1, an EM has to be set up properly to play as intended. Don't know how many times I have been excited to see an EM at a show -- only to find it has weak flippers, not leveled, poorly adjusted pop bumpers, etc, etc.
you have no idea on the amount of effort, time and money that michael put into getting 50 odd em's ready for that show..
the mermaid wasn't ready yet as it's getting fully restored at the moment..
it was an awesome event that i doubt will happen again because of the amount of time etc it took to get that organised..

Spot on. I pulled down all the woodrails for Michael on Sunday night, it took me over 3 hours.
I imagine it would have taken Michael a whole day to get them assembled in the first place.
That's not including the normal EMs .. Just the woodrails.
All of Michaels EMs and Dans SS machines have been warehoused for years.
I believe most of Dans were still 110v from when they were imported from the states, so they all needed to be converted to 230v for starters, before they would even go. Then a lot of them needed to be repaired.
The work that these dudes put into this event is unfathomable to most people. It's taken over a year to get this all up and running.

Quoted from oldskool1969:EVERYBODY needs at least one EM in their collection.
Whats OLD is NEW again, full circle!
you need two - with a sheet of yellowtongue on top they make a good bench ;D
