looked like the hotel was already fully booked for Wednesday check-in. Had to get Thursday - Friday stay

I first tried going through Marriott elite reservation line since Renaissance is in brand and I wanted to use Bonvoy points. No dice. They said the hotel was unavailable for those dates. I assume Expo has the whole place reserved for their event block. So I clicked through on the event booking site at $145/night and that showed only Thursday 28th & Friday 29th nights are available during the show itself. I couldn't check-in Wednesday or stay Sat night either. If that changes I'll update my reservation.
ugh, American canceled all non-stops between LAX and ORD. I can go into Orange County nonstop (for $1600 each way). 
I booked two days ago and now today they got me connecting in Seattle 
So stupid. Called the airline this morning and they suggested... "well maybe we will add non-stops flights before you travel and you can switch." Oh yeah? So you'll automatically tell me when you do then? No. No, of course not. I just need to check everyday myself apparently for American Airlines to change their schedule.
So anyhoo, already annoyed I'm going to Expo

For some reason I couldn't find a nonstop from LAX to ORD. WTF 
How the hell are there no nonstops between the US's 1st & 2nd busiest airports? I have to change planes? Ugh, almost don't want to go now

What the hell, I was using an Alaska Airlines credit that code shares with AA and no non-stops showed up at all. I just re-checked and its the same story

despite all the notices and signage saying they are enforcing this, there is zero physical distancing whatsoever and half the attendees aren't wearing face coverings at all. No one is even pretending the care.
meanwhile the sessions have been back to back coughing, sneezing, and people blowing noses nonstop.

pretty shitty to buy a three day ticket, fly from LA, get the hotel room for the weekend and then have to leave because of the inconsideration of others and lack of enforcement of Expo's own rules. I will go back downstairs and see if the vendor hall is any better later tonight. If not, I'll leave tomorrow.
