Looks like there's another update! This time some really sweet hats are involved! Actually, its a really good story. Definitely worth a read.

Quoted from pkiefert:

Al is slightly biased though, as he painted Flippie the clown for us.
Can't wait to show the game off later this week.
Stop by our booth and say hi, or buy some swag (we got a great new shirt) and remember to come to our Fireside Chat type talk at 1:30pm on Sunday. We will be giving away some swag during our talk.
Paul

Agreed! Flippie looks great and the game is really something to be admired. It is the real "essence" of mechanical pinball, and I could just watch the ball fly through those wireforms all day long.

Anyone coming by SFGE or even THINKING of it, please stop by and check this game out!

P.S. - Sorry for blowing up your power strip, Paul. You're right, the mini-bar should've NEVER been that close.

Thanks for sharing.
Is that the snake in between the flippers that was not on the original Proto? Was the ball launch from there? How does the ball get up to the upper PF's?

Correct, the snake is on this game and is what Python wanted. The ball is launched from a kicker just to the right of the snake. The snake will also move its head forward and backward to alter the gap between the flippers.

The upper playfields are accessed via the left ramp, which feeds the left upper playfield. The ramp on that playfield feeds Pinbo the Elephant's head, which then lifts and places the ball on a wireform to the right upper playfield. The ramp on that playfield feeds the elevator which lifts the ball to the top Flippie playfield.

And as a reminder, these shirts are printed with discharge inks so the shirt will wear out before the graphics will. They are really nice and make great gifts (I bought my wife one).

Seconded. Alana loves hers!

Quoted from PinballSTAR:

Congrats to Jim and Paul and team. Making 1, 12, or 100 is secondary to the fact they are doing this for Python. People who do good things in the hobby, take financial risk, and do hard work deserve our applsuse.
Clap clap clap
Joe

Thanks Joe

It has been a lot of fun doing the software on this game and working alongside the other members of the team. Its a new platform to program on, and surely programming the mechanisms on a "traditional" single/double level pinball machine makes you take different things into consideration compared to when you program for four layers. Its like inception with pinball.

As others like yourself here have stated, we're simply keeping a promise. I'm quite fortunate in the sense that this has been so much fun, rather than work, along the way. The best part about the entire thing isn't even getting to work on pinball, or that feeling you get when you ship a bunch of new code to the game, fire it up and it all just works (mostly).... its the Python stories we all share with one another while we're in the shop working. When thinking about the memories, stories and what we as a team are ultimately getting out of this project, I take pride in the fact that we have something that no other pinball company in the world has.

For Python,

This machine will never be produced, it's been over 2 years, no commitment by the owners,
with no communication...
They are wishing on a prayer and a dream, and they are dreaming...
Show us what you have done recently...

Well hello there, thanks for stopping by!

Any time that there is a departure involving such a monumental (and colorful) force like Python, it takes a toll on people. When Python left us, there was (and still is) a major gap in the community. Sure, he had some far out ideas, but he was damn sure never afraid to try. He had an impact on everyone in the team. After his untimely departure, we were trying to get footing on what the vision was, and we didn't want to take a DIME of anyone's money until that vision was laid out and we had something to show and something to SHIP. Members of this team AND their family devoted themselves to caring for Python in more ways than most blood relatives would.

You're absolutely right, sir, everyone needed a break. With that break, people fell off the map for a bit to recharge. We were working nonstop trying to get this game together before he passed, and then nonstop trying to get it flipping and roll out a game plan in the year afterward. It was stressful for everyone involved, but none of us would trade it for the world. Python would tell you better than anyone that there's a tremendous stress test involved in doing things in this industry.

Regardless of any inconvenience imposed upon you, I'm elated to put this shirt back on again and get to work.

Its a time to rejoice and a time to concentrate on what Python would've wanted. And we've got more clarity and knowledge on the situation now more than ever.

Alright gents, I do have to interject here.

The members at CMG have a LOT of history with Python, to the tune of years getting his insights on what he saw for the game. I think its invalid to look at these types of things as black and white. We're doing everything possible to hold to the original vision of the game in the sense of its theatrics and thematic elements. As Paul stated, Python trusts the team to make changes just as he (and his team) would've had to have made back in the heyday as deemed in the best interests of the game. So, if we think that a pelvic thrust powered snake ball save-o-matic toy isn't in the best interests of the game, then okay, we'll revise as needed.

These things are very much in flux. We take Python's broad strokes and refine them as the process moves along. Everyone here has the game's best interests in mind. We're leveraging "fun" factors with the original vision and what makes the most sense as a game that people would love to play more than once or twice. We're confident that Python would've wanted the same simply because he's told us so.

Its not all black and white, we're doing the best we can with the information we have.

(Besides, if what we make is a complete pile of dogshit, Bear, a respected member of CMGs executive board, will tell us we're "doing it wrong")
