I am playing with the Metallica code in Pinball Browser, and adding a few songs.

Battery is a little slow at the start, and I love Whiskey in the Jar - so I swapped it in for Battery. Easy enough.

Welcome Home (Sanitarium) is one of my favorite Metallica songs, and Unforgiven is a snoozer in the game, so I swapped that one, too. Easy again.

Now, I want to add Ride the Lightning where it should be - in Ride the Lightning Multiball. It currently plays Creeping Death.

So, question is, has anyone identified which Requests are utilized for the Multiball? Request 431 is the full Creeping Death line, and that populates everything else. I don't want to replace Creeping Death as a whole - just the populated lines that are being utilized during the Sparky Multiball.

Anyone found this yet?

Creeping Death runs from Request 369-465 it would appear. There has to be a way to identify where the Multiball sounds are being populated.

That's a good question. I wonder if you replace that if Creeping Death would still be in the game in its entirety or if it would suddenly switch to Ride the Lightning where the break happens....??

When Sparky Multiball starts, it does not start Creeping Death from the beginning. That tells me that there is a line or two that can be manipulated, without touching the Request that populates everything else for Creeping Death. Just have to sniff it out.

Has anyone messed with the song intro loops? It seems like it loops the exact amount that would have made sense with the intended song.

I have not gotten to this yet. I don't honestly want to spend too long on this code revision, knowing the new one will eventually drop and make me do it all over.

I did put Ride the Lightning in for Creeping Death (for a friend)...so Ride the Lightning plays while electric chair multi-ball is playing.

I honestly don't see how you would add one song without removing another.

It is nice and saves time that the small snippets of the songs are taken from the locations that have the entire songs located, but it also makes it less flexible.

I believe I have tried to change a small snippet also and even that that injects that change into the entire song locations.

One thing I really don't understand is why there are 2 locations for each entire length song. It seems that they both behave the same way and replacing one automatically changes the other. They are different locations and also different requests. My first guess was that one was for the game and the other for the jukebox, but since they are tied together (if one is replaced they both get replaced) it seems weird that they even have it in 2 different locations.

Good luck...but I don't see how it could be done.

This is correct.
I guess that Stern did that to save flash memory space; instead of duplicating an extract of a song, they rather use a pointer to a portion of the full song.

I'm afraid this is not possible :
A song is made of several sound fragments.
Each fragment can be used in several sound requests.
When you modify one fragment, it will impact all the sound requests that reference it.

More information on "sound requests" and "sound fragments" in the Pinball Browser thread OP.

So if you want them both you could replace a different song with Creeping Death and replace Creeping Death with Ride the Lightning.

That is exactly what my friend is wanting me to do when he believes the code is finalized. He likes Creeping Death, but there is no arguing that Ride the Lightning is a better choice for Electric Chair Multiball than Creeping Death. I mean they say "Ride the Lightning" as the multiball start on some occasions.

I haven't looked into what other songs might be suitable (length wise) for Creeping Death to replace. I will tell you though...it's pretty amazing that Ride the Lightning fits in the Creeping Death spot perfectly.
