LV-426 has landed. First stream with be tomorrow (6/20/2021 at 8pm EST) on Twitch - twitch.tv/hurryuppinball

#1143 2 years ago

I went through my machine yesterday and made sure the target covers were all clearing the pcbs. I also noticed they were not super tight so the switch stack would move as they were hit. I tightened the two screws for each target after aligning them and make sure they clear the pcb. If this keeps happening, I will most likely dremel out tiny area on the target cover (on the inside part that is not seen) to fix the issues.

#1159 2 years ago

I just posted this to my YouTube channel in case anyone wants to check out the new machine.

#1160 2 years ago
Quoted from c818919taylor:

Thanks for streaming.
The last time the flippers cut out were you playing for 2ish hours too?

I was thinking it may be related to time but it happened during a short game off stream, both times during Ambush MB. Nothing too crazy though and not frequent. I will let PB know.

#1162 2 years ago
Quoted from Zablon:

I may be wrong, but isn't there a point in Ambush MB that the flippers cut out on purpose?

I think you are right as I have seen it a few times. I have had it lock up, lights and flippers, on two occasions requiring a power cycle. I suspect it is code and will share with PB. It is not frequent though and most of the gameplay last night was smooth sailing.

#1167 2 years ago
Quoted from gliebig:

My skinny standups keep getting stuck on the metal behind them. Anyone else having this issue?

I centered all the parts of the switch stack then used a small phillips bit to tighten down the two screws holding the stack together. They have not moved since I did that. They were not very snug when I got my game. I made mine tight but did not ratchet them down since the pcb sits in the switch stack.

#1177 2 years ago
Quoted from gliebig:

My Alien tongue in test mode is very loud/rough sounding. Is that normal? It has been working fine during gameplay.

Mine is loud / rough sounding as well. I applied electronic safe grease to the gears and the tongue which helped a little. I am kicking around a few ideas on how to quiet it down. It may need to wear in a little. That was one of the first things I noticed when I booted up the game. I pulled off the Xeno head by loosening the two phillips screws on the side of the Xeno.

Has anyone posted underside photos? I’ve only been watching this thread, I’m just curious about the difference between original and pinbros. node boards, power supply etc.

Here are a few I took yesterday of the rail system and backbox.

Is there no subway on this game? Where does the xeno eaten ball go, into an adjacent VUK?

The ball is ejected from the VUK after the Xeno eats it. I believe that is the only transfer.

Quoted from delt31:

Without the original side art cutouts, we no longer need to worry about retrofitting art blades and EL wire in the new version. I’m expecting the side blade companies to offer those lit up side blades they have for other games in here for alien. Would be a match made in heaven. I’ve already emailed them as well. For now, I might put mirrors in it to see how that looks. The reflection might show off the light effects well. Then I can just remove them and put in cool side art when they become available.

I'm waiting to see what is available as well in terms of side art.

Is that a solid block of wood in the backbox supporting the speakers/monitor??

It is a CNC'd MDF cabinet that the speakers are mounted to and the monitor is mounted to the outside of the MDF speaker case.

Here is a link to another 3 hour stream on Aliens. Starting to figure out modes / weapons and really enjoying the game. A few hiccups along the way but nothing that can’t be resolved. I have been sharing info with PB when I do encounter issues and they have been super responsive. Just wanted to share.

In case anyone is having issues with sticky flippers on their game, I made a tutorial showing how I fixed this issue. I checked the bushing / flipper bat gap, the coil sleeves, and coil alignment prior to doing this. I hope this helps anyone having this issue.

#1363 2 years ago
Quoted from Lethal_Inc:

Great video, how did you align your flippers? Parallel or flat with the lane guides I suppose but just making sure. No alignment holes in this game.

Thanks for the feedback. For Alien, I aligned my flippers with the lane guides for a smooth transition. I have a full Titan set to install and am curious to see how it plays once the Titans are on.

If you are having issues with drained balls not registering, one thing to check is the coil plunger in the trough. If the plunger is too high, the pinballs can sometimes get stuck behind it and will not get picked up by the opto sensor. I created a tutorial on how to fix this issue if the pinballs are getting stuck behind the plunger. I hope this helps anyone having this issue.

https://pinballbrothers.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/80000711505-trough-adjustments (You will need to log in via your Facebook or Google account though) I did this on my machine but I used a Torx T-20 bit not a T15 as you say in your video.
Great job, I'm sure lots of owners will appreciate it.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m just trying to document issues I come across and make videos if I need to do the repairs. Figure it will help some others out. I’ve seen several different torx sizes for different mechs. I ended up buying a set of metric nut drivers but luckily had a bit set that included lots of torx bits. I have been messing with the left scoop kick out but don’t have a great solution yet. The ball actually hits the bottom of the plastic ramp when it gets ejected. Thought about trying to 3d print something to tame the kickout but no luck yet. I adjusted the coil strength to 25% weaker but it is still a bit too strong.

I just corrected the video regarding the t20 torx bit and updated the link in the previous post. The t15 works but t20 is the proper size and what is recommended by PB.

I put one of those gray foam pads(used behind standup targets) on the metal bracket. That gives me a perfect eject every time.

I have several of those and will try this. Thanks for the advice! Much appreciated.

For anyone having issues with the skinny stand ups, I put together a temp fix while I wait for the Gen3 targets. I have emailed back and forth with Cato and he has been very helpful. I purchased a set of 5 green standup targets from Pinball Life and cut the exist wire connector in half to use for the new targets. I added some extra wire as well. I spent about an hour to do all five and they are working perfectly. I know PB will ultimately fix this issue and they are currently working on it with the Gen3 targets. I just wanted to share this temp fix with everyone in case anyone want to do the same. As an FYI, with the playfield in the upright position, the wire on the right (on the board) will connect to the metal blade on the stand up target in the non-stripe side of the diode and the wire on the left of the node board will connect to the blade without the diode on it. The extra wire I added is 20 or 22 gauge, I only had 18 gauge and it worked. They work perfectly and it is really nice to be collecting a lot more weapons. Here is a link to the Pinball Life targets I purchased. They may have other colors if you don’t like green. You will need 5 if changing out all of them. Once the Gen3 targets arrive, it will be easy to switch. I did ask Cato for replacement connectors with the Gen3 targets.

Quoted from chuckwurt:

I’m going to take a wild guess and say this solved the issues with the targets not always registering. Nice work!

They all register and no longer get stuck. The standard edition has connectors on the PB skinny stand ups for RGB lighting but they are not connected. I suspect the LV will have RGB the on the skinny stand ups. I figured since I don’t have to worry about the RGB lights on the skinny stand ups, a standard stand up target would be sufficient. Cato at PB actually recommended them as a temp fix while Gen3 is being worked on.

#1772 2 years ago
Quoted from c818919taylor:

Since I dont expect PB to ship games before the stand up fix, did PB share a timeframe?

I believe they mentioned about 30 days for the Gen3 targets. I’m sure that can change but they have done a great job so far on the CS end with my submitted tickets. Looking forward to seeing Gen3.

I really happy to see more people getting their games. I am still having a blast with Aliens after about 2 months of owning it and managed to get 4 of the 5 multiballs started just the other night (started Save Newt for the first time). Alien has a ton of shots and modes are quite challenging. Here is a link to the latest stream I posted and I time stamped it so you can see the different modes.

Arrived safe and sound all the way from Milano!

I'm unboxing this live on Twitch this Saturday (https://twitch.tv/dri374). I haven't kept tabs on this thread for a while as I completely zoned out after I understood my game got wedged out from the first shipment. Are there code updates or other things that needs to get done out-of-the-box? I don't expect the game to work at all to be honest. Anyhow, tune in if you want to share your know-how. I did get the green WH2O targets from Pinball Life, but that's about it.
[quoted image]

Be sure to drop in the new code (version 2.2). I installed the old style Williams 3D targets as a temp fix for sticky skinny stand ups and they work great. For direct audio for streaming, you can tap off the backbox speaker (I tried the cabinet speaker but it was getting a sub signal and was not anywhere near as clear as the backbox). While there are a few video connections in the backbox, there currently is not a line that can be used for main display capture and no option for splitting a video out signal. I asked PB if there was a way capture the video signal and they indicated “not at this time”. I would also recommend placing some target foam above the muthur kick out as it helps tame the ball eject and set up a clean flipper shot. I would recommend double checking the nuts and bolts and cable connections after unboxing just to be safe. I also sanded down the bushings to help with the sticky flipper issue. If you have any issues with a ball not registering in the drain, check out the video I made for the quick fix. You will need metric tools and some torx bits for working in Alien. My game has been playing really well after making some tweaks and I am really enjoying it. Also, don’t hesitate to reach out to Cato at PB if you have any issues, he is very helpful. You can also message me if you have any questions. I hope this info helps.

I have owned my Alien for close to two months and while I really enjoy the game, there are a bunch of games on the horizon so after spending some time with Alien, I have decided to list it for sale. I got mine in June and it plays 100%. I added wide body voodoo glass, Titans, swapped out the gen 2 skinny stand ups for Williams 3d targets, and completed many of the fixes outlined in this thread. It currently has 126 plays. Current code is 2.2. I am looking for a cash only / local deal. I am not looking to ship the pin at this time. If anyone is interested, let me know.

I believe I got an email stating I would get a call to schedule delivery. It was very quick from the time I got notified until it was delivered. I got a call about 1-2 days after I got the email. You can also call FedEx and ask them to look it up. Delivery too roughly 3-4 days. I am on the east coast so I suspect a few more days for west coast.

100% THIS!!!!
All I see is Halloween (long time to wait for that game, unless you have an early number) CGC Cactus Canyon, personally I just found it meh, after playing it in Houston in 2019, and a maybe Stern Godzilla, what else is "on the horizon" out there?

I frequently move games in and out for streaming and my wife and I had a chance to play several new machines at SFGE. Alien is a great game and I have enjoyed my time with it, just looking to free up funds for a game in the future. My wife is obsessed with GnR after playing it at SFGE and I really enjoyed it too so that one is possibly in our future. With rumors floating about Godzilla, BTTF, etc, I just want to be ready. I have beaten the Alien wizard mode, played and almost beat the wizard mode for Aliens, and was 1 super jackpot shot away from All out War multiball mode. Again, Alien is a great game and selling it will give someone else the chance to enjoy it as well.

Quoted from brado426:

Damn... your problem is you're just too damn good!! I have 22 games and I suck at all of them. This keeps them fresh and always fun to play. hahahahaha

Lol. I wish that were the case. Some games completely break me and I can’t get rid of them fast enough. Every once in a while the stars line up. Those games are usually followed by the worst games I have ever had.

BTW, I spent 14 years living in Lake Forest, CA and hope all is well out your way. I don’t miss the traffic but I do miss the a lot of other things.

#2160 2 years ago
Quoted from delt31:

Considering stern will try and get 10k+ for their LEs (which is an absolute joke), I'm fine with this price. I always thought the 7777 for SV was the steal/buy of the year and happy with mine but it will be on the market as soon as I get the LV. For me, LV has to have the interior lit blades. Comparing the OG to PB, the new one hands down beats the old with all of it's additions EXCEPT the missing interior lit blades. Those need to happen. Screen I can live with or without which is prob the biggest surprise since owning the new PB version is how much I don't miss it. Beacons need to happen too although they will work with the SV (PB confirmed to me yesterday) and assume same with LV so no worries there.
Bring on the LV. New code btw, really fixes the magnet grab by xeno. OG had the same issue as well but this new FW grabs it better than I've seen on either version. No issues to report and I'm loving it. Alien pinball continues to be my fav pinball game out there.
On a side note, don't sleep on Dialed In. Game is legit.

I just bought a Dialed In standard with the intention of it being a floater game and both myself and my wife are really enjoying it. It’s a great game and will be sticking around for a while.

Quoted from zacaj:

Had my Alien in a tournament today on the beta code. Held up great until the very last game, when I stacked Sentry Guns and Ambush multiball, and a ball just sat in the left scoop, never kicking out. Manually ejected it and it wouldn't end the ball or anything after that

This is the only issue I continue to have and I’m pretty certain it is code related. It doesn’t lock up frequently and I can go a 2 hour stream with no issues but every once in a while, when stacking multiple things, it locks up. I also locked it up hitting the shoot button for the shotgun to start Ambush at exactly the same time as the ball drained.

#2263 2 years ago

I am still running the original 2.2 code. The only issue I am still experiencing at this time is the occasional hang up when multiple modes are running at the same time or in a multiplayer game where the ball drains, it registers a drain, but doesn’t kick a new ball into the shooter lane. It is infrequent but does happen. I am almost certain this is related to code and not mechanical. For anyone with 2.2d or 2.2e installed, are you still having hang ups with the new code? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I thought it was $8595. Now $8895?

This is from PB website. Prices recently went up. Old SV price was $7777.

I dropped in code version 2.2d last night before my stream. No hang ups at all. I also adjusted the trough kickout and muthur kickout down a bit and both work great. I beat Self Destruct again and set a new GC of 307M. 2.2d was a huge improvement over 2.2. Also, the Xeno grabbed the ball every time. Huge improvement on the magnet grab. Here is a link if anyone wants to check it out.

Quoted from ElCid95:

Yep, it was freshly formatted and in the root directory.

One thing I would recommend is to check the post directly in front of the upper right flipper. I noticed it moved a little after about a week of play so I added some loc-tite and reinstalled it. About a month or so later, I noticed it was coming loose again. There is a t-nut in the bottom of the playfield and it is located under the flipper plate mech. After digging further into it, it appears there is only a few threads that make contact with the t-nut. I grabbed a Bally Williams post, another washer, and a low profile locknut and replaced the stock PB post and t-nut. As you can see from the pic, this could get pretty bad if it is loose as the post takes a lot of direct hits. The wear from the old washer is covered by the new washer I installed but thought I would share this so others could check and adjust as need. The post I used was roughly about a 1/4 of an inch longer (the threads) but not so long as to contact the flipper plate.

Quoted from AD72:

After finding the flipper coil mount loose I went around checking for loose or missing hardware. I came across the eject coil for MU/TH/UR. It looks like one nut is missing and the other was loose. The plunger has an interference with the loose nut. Maybe this is an issue some are seeing with the kick out?
[quoted image]

One of the first things I did when I got my game was raise the playfield and check the bolts and nuts to make sure everything was tight. I don’t really care for the pressure washers with a standard nut and I converted a few to lock nuts. Not a bad idea to check them and adjust as needed before it creates an issue.

If I had to guess this is the machine that HurryUpPinball sold, I remember seeing that he had replaced all of the small stand up targets with ones from B/W.
In other news I just got a reply from Cato that he has sent a care package with ALL new Stand up targets, new flipper bats, new post for the right flipper and a scoop protector. I'm really hoping these are the new Gen 3 targets as I already have the Gen 2 ones! I will let you guys know as soon as I receive them

I did swap the targets as a temp fix while awaiting next gen targets. Cato just reached out to me today (proactively I might add) to get the info for the guy who bought my game so he can send him targets. Cato rules! That’s customer service right there.
