Nice interview! Thanks for sharing
Quoted from kciaccio:Found the problem with my dead sling shots.
Those coils look to be installed backwards.
They will work that way, but the coil lugs are awfully close to the edge of the coil stop. Could cause a short if they touch.
Quoted from crwjumper:Completely against what you’re supposed on other pins . . .but it worked!
The coil plunger needs to go into the coil straight and smooth. If it goes into the coil at an angle, it creates drag/friction/heat/less power.
Those gap tools for space between the pawl and bushing aren’t always accurate.
Quoted from Greaseman:does anyone know of a PB Alien that is available to flip in the greater Chicagoland area? (includes Milwaukee
I do. PM me if you’re going to be in the area.
I’ve done several adjustments to the latest SV build to make it play good. I would be happy to go over them all and have you play it.
It bugs me that there are spots to plug in Flipper End of Stroke switches, but no kit or programming in the works.
I have a ticket in for this and the unlit standup targets. Otherwise it’s playing well.
Use the time stamps in the description to skip past the unboxing.
I also noticed (and Cato confirmed) the flipper bushings are 1/8” too long on the flipper mech side of the playfield. This causes the plunger to go into the coil off-center, creating more friction, heat and less power over longer play. Take a coil stop off and look for yourself: if you see a half moon wear mark on the stop, your plunger is off center.
I’ll be installing 4 of these https://www.marcospecialties.com/control/keywordsearch?SEARCH_STRING=03-7568+-+Flipper+bushing
Quoted from kellartz:I need all the help I can get with the various adjustments, I need to do with my 10/21 build SV. I appreciated your unboxing/adjustments video posting. Can you post a videotape showing the how to on the replacement procedure for flipper bushings? I subscribe and would greatly appreciate it.
I didn't film changing out the bushings. Honestly it's not too difficult, just takes time.
Remove the flipper bat, unscrew the mech and take it to a workbench. Then just remove/replace the bushing and put it back.
Take note of your flipper positions prior to removing - I used a straight edge against the ball guide to gauge the flipper position.
I did make a video for a friend that also has Alien to show some of this detail, but it's not a polished video. I'll PM you with a link.
Quoted from kellartz:Did the 4 replacement flipper bushings you ordered work out as a straight replacement or did you need to modify ? I would greatly appreciate hearing how they worked out.
These are the correct size bushings that should have been used: https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/03-7568
Based on the playfield thickness, the depth of the flipper mech and the coil used.
These Williams bushing require no modification whatsoever.
