Quoted from brado426:

Coin door lights in FreePlay is not one of the fixes in 2.2E... I know because I asked for it too and have been looking on every release.
Today I fixed a long-standing problem with my drop-targets that I thought I should share with all of you. The problem was that intermittently, the drop targets would not reset. They appeared to try to reset, but the coil seemed to fire way too weak to push the targets up all the way. Really hard to troubleshoot because it was extremely intermittent. I could also replicate this behavior in test mode sometimes, but then it would suddenly start working fine again at full coil strength as it should be. I did check the mechanism with the power off and nothing seemed jammed or stuck.
So immediately after the problem happened, I pulled the playfield up and touched the drop target frame while the power was on to see if it was a mechanical issue that only occurred when the playfield was down. I could feel electricity flowing through my arm to ground. I got my voltmeter out and measured the drop-target frame to ground... 48 VOLTS DC!!! I found that twisting the coil to the right or left would cause the short.
So I pulled the drop-target chassis out and could instantly see the problem:
[quoted image]
There is supposed to be a peg on the coil that prevents it from twisting. Every time it twisted, it would short 48V to the frame. So you can see in the picture how I temporarily fixed it.... just put a zip-tie around the base of them coil to keep it from twisting.
Now my drop-targets reset 100% with no problems!
Just thought I'd share this because it took me awhile to isolate it. These coils can NOT twist or it will cause problems.... so might be a good idea to look for any missing pegs on any of your coils.

Wow is the coil lug really that close to the bracket or is that an optical illusion?

I put the $1 down but never got any emails. They put up the $1,000 down payment LV link on the site right away. Not sure how the $1 was supposed to work.

They are supposed to be invoicing for the $999 in the order that the first $1 was received. I took me a while but I did get invoiced for the $999.

In for the LV. I'm just excited at the possibility of finally getting the Alien pinball (in any capacity/version) that I pre-ordered back on 10/19/2014. Hard to believe this mess has been going on for 7+ years. Crossing my fingers that it's going to be amazing and worth the wait. I guess it can still be the "35th anniversary edition", it's just 35 years since Aliens instead of Alien.

Well I got my topper today, now I just need to get my LV eventually. After 7 years, hopefully only another year or so and I'll have it!

Is anyone working with Cliff on protectors for the PB version? I see the HW version has a stack of protection available but nothing for this version.

#5791 2 years ago
Quoted from RussG:

You talking about the magnets and the Air Lock inlet and kickout?
I want to protect those at a minimum.
Is there any mylar protection at the ramp drops to the inlanes? I didn't see any.

No specifics, I want them anywhere/everywhere it needs it. I like to have them on hand before a pin arrives but I only see the HW version offered. Usually someone with an early pin partners with Cliff to get them sized and tested.

I always tip pretty much anyone doing me a service in some capacity. My drivers have always just asked me where I want it and I point to the garage. They drop it no questions and I always thank them with a tip. Different drivers/companies so it's not like they know me or that I'm going to tip. If someone hit me with an "I can't", I'd probably rethink the tip for that driver.

Quoted from KJS:

I've had a couple more requests for the translite and door mods, if anyone wants them drop me a pm. Need to do a run of 5 to make it cost-effective.
Also had a request for a Queen version in blue hues rather than green which can be done as wellif we get a few people wanting the same.
Had a few guys asking about flipper bats. I just used scared stiff boney beast bats and hand painted them black base, gunmetal highlights then gloss clear.
Had a great game last night but can't seem to crack those big scores you guys get![quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

I'd love to see the blue version to go with my LE. I'd be interested in the details.

Quoted from calprog:

I’ve been waiting 5 years for any Alien pin!!! Went through the whole Andrew issue and now waiting on Pinball brothers. It’s really frustrating and I’m about ready to bail

The glass could also be half full brother. I'll be at 8 years in October and out my $1500 from Andrew. At least I'm not out more than that amount like some of the others around here so that's my glass half full philosophy. I'll see my LE someday when it's meant to be...

#6551 1 year ago
Quoted from calprog:

I’m also out $1500. Got a voucher voucher for around 1100 if I recall. Andrew had stolen another 7000 from me however I got it all back they took it directly out of his account. Got lucky. The credit card company got it back. I kept $1500 just to be hopeful and got screwed on that. So maybe I have been in at eight years too I would have to check but I know it’s been an awfully long time!

If you ordered day 1 like me then yea, you'll be at 8 years in October as well.

I just received my LV invoice. Finally some light at the end of the tunnel from my original order on October 20th 2014.

#8269 1 year ago

To further confuse things, CT has their own numbering system which is the order with which you got in their line.

Indeed.

And props to PB for doing something for us original "investors" who got burned to get some of our money back at least.

Quoted from conester:

Why do you have to pay in full and then wait 6 months or more to get the game? I have a deposit down on one, but I don't like the fact that they are asking for full payment and then it's 6 month or more until you receive the game...I thought they asked for the rest of the payment when they had it state side and it was ready to ship to you.....how is this any different than paying for the game in full with Highway and then crossing your fingers that you get it? After the highway fiasco, this makes me a little uncomfortable...

They ask for your money when they are asked for money from PB. I would guess that the liquidity to cover an entire container of games (let alone multiple in transit at once) is far more than most retailers could handle.

The difference to me is that PB has already shipped more games then Heighway ever did. And you do have an intermediary between your purchase.

Well 7 years, 9 months, and 24 days after initially placing my deposit... my Alien LE is finally here. Only had time to play a few games but everything appears to operate 100% out of the box which is a big relief.

Only feedback I would give is about the packaging. I'm not sure how this thing made it from Europe to my house without any damage but by blind luck. The FedEx guy actually wouldn't leave and told me I should open it because of how banged up the box was.

Quoted from petersonjandrew:

Received my replacement LV last week, very happy other than the apron stickers will not stay put. Tried rubbing alcohol to clean the surface and applied the extra stickers they supplied, but still no luck. Did anyone else experience this and what was your fix? The apron is definitely not on par with the rest of the machine, minor flaw, but still pretty bad for a high-end pin.

Mine are curling up as well and won't stick down.

Does anyone know exactly which AR glass is on the LV? Is it one of the brands already out there or is it PB's own version? I've only ever owned PDI and this glass is a pain (comparativly) to get\keep clean.

Quoted from Optimiser:

Why? What does Windex with ammonia in it do to LV glass? I have no issue with Windex on my SV.

Except for PDI glass where the coating is etched on (I still never use ammonia cleaners anywhere in my house anyway), all/most the other verities of "optical glass" have a sprayed on coating which will degrade over time. Using ammonia can significantly speed up that process.

#11485 1 year ago
Quoted from Optimiser:

I have "Magic" anti-reflective glass on my optioned up Houdini pinball and no issues with Windex after 2 years. Is "Magic" glass different?

My guess would be that's is sprayed on given the similar price point the all the other sprayed on glass out there but there aren't many details on the site. It's not like using Windex will instantaneously wipe off these types of coatings. The risk is the amonia will wear the coating off faster over time than using a more mild cleaner. As it happens gradually through prolonged cleaning, it'd probably be tough to notice that very overtly.

#11528 1 year ago

I ordered the clear drops from Zit (pinball-mods) for all of my games (which I believe is where Tim gets his from). I had to do some major work on them including trimming the top, trimming and smoothing out the full washer slide track (top and bottom), and then finally I had to get out my heat gun and heat the shaft to bend them slightly forward. They came with a slight rear lean instead of at least being straight so the front tabs would not catch and hold reliability to the mech. Don't ask me how much fun it was to heat, bend, cool while maintaining shape for 5 targets to come out the exact same shape so the didn't stick out different depths (my SWLE force targets).

The other issue was I ordered the lot for all my pins in two halves a few months apart and some of the targets have differing opacity.

Has anyone installed interior pinball display (for floating toy) posts or best designs for the Konami SF movie figures or ships? Is there a designer out there to commission with for floating anchored posts, highest quality design? Less is more so just a few for subtle improvement / implementation. These seem the highest quality and most sensible size to include and implement. I could see 2 or 3 being installed without being overwhelming or cluttered.

I was contemplating buying an SV this weekend but these last few pages have me concerned. Is the machine worth the hassle?

Mine has been flawless from day 1. To me it's pretty simple, don't be an early code adopter, let everyone else do it for you and get the feedback to PB. Then once it's stable you can upgrade if you choose.

Quoted from WizardsCastle:

Just had my Alien LV delivered, but have a question about moving it.
With Stern games, the cardboard box covers the bottom, so I just shimmy it off the wood skid, and being the full box in on my appliance dolly.
This game has some protective cardboard screwed into the skid, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to get it off the skid, without damaging the back of the game.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

I just put a blanket down and walked it off the pallet with no issues.

What everyone using for rubbers and I mean on the game
Looking for replacement set and spares, curious those who changed how there holding up, Gitd look sweet but maybe too much, but would be perfect or translucent, pictures and opinions welcome.

I just put GITD on my GB and am not super impressed. The best benefit is their UV reaction not their glowing ability. If you've got a way to trigger the reaction then go for it but they are pretty expensive. I'm going with all blue perfect play silicone on mine. I have the translucent perfect play on all the rest and like those as well.

So for the LV specifically do we just need to plug in the existing cables for the targets that are unplugged and then update the code?

#11853 1 year ago

Updated software and firmware and loving the play so far. I was at 2.7 and now at 3.1. The only issue is the AP(C) single drop target isn't registering now at all which I never had issues with before. The A & P work fine. Any idea what may have caused this before I bother PB with a ticket?

#12527 1 year ago

If anyone was looking for the exact PC color for the LV, here it is: RAL 5022

https://www.prismaticpowders.com/shop/powder-coating-colors/RAL-5022

I plan on coating my coin door to match the rest of my games but I'm sure someone else will get even more creative.

Quoted from darkryder:

Good info for DIY powdercoaters! Is there a reference anywhere of factory match powder color codes for pinball machines? For example, the Monster Bash blue, WOZ Emerald green, STLE blue, Maiden LE, Hobbit LE Bronze, Godzilla LE, JP LE, etc? I’m planning to powder some coin doors, speaker panels and other parts on my games and not sure where to find those codes. Worst case, I see Prismatic offers a color matching service if you send them a sample part. If anyone has a list of correct codes, please share or sticky this info!

Prismatic does have a color match and custom color division FYI.

just getting my LV setup this morning, and can't get the damned backglass out..every little turn, with the cam out, doesn't allow it to slide up..and hot tips before I go mad? lol..

I was experiencing the same thing. I had to watch a video to confirm I was doing it right. You just have to jiggle, shake, and lift. Especially the first time if there is any of the protection film still left at the bottom making it tighter.

#12732 1 year ago

The clear drops can be problematic. Not only does the cast need to be cleaned up on the injection points and the seam at the top in all the ones I had, you have the fin issue (and not just painting it). When I installed them in my Metallica grave markers (after painting it and having the opto still not detect them), I actually had to extend the fin to make them stick out further. Weather it was the slight curve of the softer plastic or the actual height of the fin itself due to the mold, it was not fully breaking the beam of the opto. I took a cardboard box and shaved 1 layer of cardboard material and trimmed it to the size of the fin. Then I added some double sided sticky tape (whatever the official 3M code name is for that transfer stuff you use for stickers you've removed), and then stuck it on the fin. It finally worked at that point. Overall the clear drops are a nice effect when illuminated but between the FORCE targets on SW, the IMDN drops and now the Met drops, I have no interest in messing with them for my Alien.

Was the opto board mounted to the back of the drop target assembly. Shawn quickly diagnosed it, got me a replacement shipped out and I'm back up and running 100%. This was my only issue so far minus my curling apron decals on delivery. Loving how it's playing on 3.1 & .71. I also swapped the stock rubber for perfect play silicone in blue from PBL and really enjoying that difference as well.

Quoted from Crispin:

Absolutely love this game! Have had her for almost a year and have been neglecting my other pins. The one thing I wish they would have paid more attention to detail to is the tongue that eats the ball. The detailed head and moving jaw look fantastic but the round magnet on the end of the steel arm is lacking. After looking at it for a few months I decided to carve a wax mini jaw to sit around the magnet. I reached out to pinball brothers to ask for a cross section of the black plastic that the magnet retracts into but a number of requests were ignored. I would have liked to have beefed up the tongue and have the top 2 fangs taller but since it retracts into the plastic tunnel so the ball will drop I had to work with what I had. Instead I used a black sharpie to create stripes on the steel arm to try and make it a ribbed look. The mini jaw was cast in sterling silver so it wouldn't become magnetized and possibly create a problem with the ball releasing. I hot glued it on last December and it hasn't moved since. I had made a mold of the original and will check a second casting on my friends machine this Saturday. If the shrinkage is ok and it just slides on like the original I am going to make them available through Pingraffix if anyone is interested.

Mine has the opposite issue, it's pretty tight. I usually have to pull it out with both hands from the bottom. I do agree, it's the thinnest glass I've ever owned.

#13435 1 year ago
Quoted from megaladon:

I don’t have any issues with the fit on the glass, but mine also is pretty thin and has some coating defects because there are small splotches that I can clean off but then they come back so I’m assuming it’s some sort of defect with the antiglare coating. I was one of the first LV shipped and I should’ve said something and got a new glass because it is annoying. On a separate note did anybody else upgrade their alien light posts and experience them turning blue after a certain stage and stay blue? Just wondering if that’s a bug?

This is my first optical glass other than PDI and the 1 sheet of Invisiglass I had on my WOZ and I definitely find it harder to get perfectly clean... and then once I do, the face hugger tails in the slings smudge the inside where they hit the glass lol.

Where did you get that wall mountable bust? Is that the Prime 1 studios wall mountable bust?

Sure is, the open mouth version. I'm loving the prime one figures I've been receiving. I have been a Sideshow collector for about 25 years. I just recently received the Prime 1 Sauron, Heath Ledger Joker, and have the Museum Masterline black version Superman arriving tomorrow.

#13618 1 year ago
Quoted from Meadows22:

Yeah, I thought that was the prime 1 big chap. Damn looks great I know the open mouth has been long sold out. I can still get the closed mouth version been debating on it for some time. I think I'm gonna have to pick it up. How sturdy is it? Any concerns of it falling?
I have 1/3 prime 1 big chap.

I'll definitely admit those thoughts going through my head as well. I used two 50lb anchors and it hasn't budged. Even with two HSU 15 Mk2's shaking the walls in my HT. I would have preferred 1 hitting a stud but it wasn't to be.

Quoted from Meadows22:

That was a major reservation of mine. Even with anchors in the studs I'd still have anxiety, but damn that looks good. You have some pretty cool pieces. I mainly collect star wars and movie ( horror and si-fy pieces)

Nice! My collection has ebbed and flowed over the past 30ish years but I collect similar type of items.

Quoted from Hershmeister:

Newbie here - is there a post or thread which compares the two versions (sv and lv)? Thanks!

Have you perused the manufacturer's website? It should all be right there. https://www.pinballbrothers.com/alien/

Quoted from Pinballpal:

The 5th weapon target just stays white throughout the game is that normal?

If it's an LE, it's missing a cable from the factory. You can ask PB for the cable.

Quoted from punkin:

Not on mine either i don't think, but it is common.

I stock the ball stop part now to put in all my pins when I get them.
