After creating the Alien egg topper, I thought, why not make an egg-themed can holder too?
[quoted image]If you’re interested in either the Alien egg topper or the can holder, feel free to send me a message!

Psyched for this! Awesome work

#20552 32 days ago
Quoted from Rager170:

That cupholder is awesome! Dimensions? Would need too see if it would fit. Also, does it hold pint glasses? Looks like a tight fit with the can but might just be the picture.

It’s sticks out about 5.5” from the leg and it kind of holds a pint glass but it could possible fall out if someone is being super rough with the game. I mainly designed it for cans and bottles.

Alien Apron & Lighting Mod Firmware 2.7.60 has been released. This release now properly detects the Weapon Ready state.

Previously, Weapon Ready indicator on the apron would echo the behavior of the launch button, which flashes for weapon ready and ball launch. With Firmware 2.7.60, the Weapon Ready will only flash for Weapon Ready and will no longer flash for ball launch.

If you desire the previous behavior, simply turn on "Light Weapon Ready When Ball in Shooter Lane" option in the Alien Annunciator Config Tool.

This works great in conjunction with the Video Launch button by Vimtoman (I love this mod!)

This free update is available on Evolution Mods website: https://www.evolutionmodsllc.com/

Enjoy!

I do clear rubbers on a lot of games. Is there a map for alien that shows what size rubbers are used in various spots?

My updated rubber list is attached..

Appreciate the feedback. Yes, I checked the slings. All clips are in place there. I looked pretty thoroughly but it's still a mystery.

Could have just been accidentally dropped in there by the assemblers and they couldn't find them.

Quoted from Optimiser:

Interesting point. Hadn't thought of that.
Everything works great. I'll throw them in the spares box for now.
Thanks

Grabbed a sheet of widebody Voodoo glass, what an incredible difference.

These pics are under the exact same lighting conditions. Nothing changed between them except the glass (and I swapped the apron cards and installed my launch button, lol). Flip between the pics, craaaaazy.

Standard glass:

I'd been previously voicing difficulty seeing the ball on my SV. I got some of the lighting mods a few folks mentioned; didn't install them yet, but this glass has already made a huge difference in visibility.

Be careful cleaning it, alcohol and water only, anything harsher will strip the coating.

I posted a video about this a few pages back. It is THE origional Alien med bay scene facehugger that was on Kanes face. Pretty cool that it is still in decent shape. Make a great topper lol, for those who don't care about money

They also have an Aliens facehugger that I think was one used in the medical statis tubes, but not sure if that is up for auction.

actually I use a mild vinegar/water mix..works really good. I might just spring for that invisglass cleaner for lack of smell, but I'll get the non-aresol version if I do it.

I must have toxic sweat. My invisglass pieces I bought a couple of years ago have areas down by the flipper buttons where the coating has worn off.

Is there a way to adjust the topper xeno tail counterclockwise in the menu? It seems like it has a clockwise adjustment but not the other way around. Instructions do a poor job of explaining where it should be on install and I'm not sure the zero adjust in the menu is doing what it's supposed to either. Tail seems to whip when the xeno is hit and also it has to feel like it. Right now it's resting on the pedipalp thing when it is at position zero.

I was introduced to invisiglass when I got my Hobbit, what a difference it makes.

Any other LV owners have completely uneven beacon wire holes?
20240812_011304 (resized).jpg20240812_011304 (resized).jpg
One is 5 inches from the edge.
20240812_011318 (resized).jpg20240812_011318 (resized).jpg
The other is 3.5 inches.

In order to mount the topper I either need to drill a new hole in the top that aligns with the hole in the topper base for the wire, or cut open the bottom of the topper base. I am likely to do the latter by marking the bottom of the topper through the current beacon wire hole.

I also sent photos to PB of how warped my topper base is. The main problem is the front edge which does not lie flat and creates a gap. The PCB flexed into a banana shape is probably not great either.
They are going to send me a new one.

In the meantime, I am trying to straighten the current warped base, it is clamped to a board.

Im pretty sure I have that issue and its why one side wont fit the wires directly down.... I do see that it sits slightly higher on that one side.

I am thinking of putting a small riser under the topper to it levels. I dont want to get crazy into it ha.

Looking at this again, could you run the wires through the cutout channels and out the back somehow?

I recommend running all topper wires, including the beacon, through one of the 2 holes in the back near the top. knock out one of the grates. it's much simpler to install the topper that way. The design of the topper allows you to run the wires out the back of it, so that it will sit flush.

No way in hell I’m drilling any holes in any of my machines! I was able to do the vent hole trick for my MMrLE. No way I was going to do that to that machine, Alien, or anything else unless it was already trashed.

When I installed my beacon topper, I used the provided template to drill holes in the top with a spade bit. Install looks like it was done at the factory.

#20577 30 days ago

The double sided tape on mine wouldn't even touch due to the thing being warped and the wires not lining up with the holes.

Anybody seeing anything off with this code revision? My side blades aren't lighting and neither are my cabinet start / launch lights although they work in test.

I’m seriously considering buying the Ripley edition. It’s a lot of pinball for the money. I’m just having trepidation about it because it’s PB and I’m not a tinkerer. Advice? Are most the kinks ironed out on this edition?

It is a great value, and the Alien game itself is beautiful and immersive. I’ve actually owned two of them over the past year and sold both. Like my experiences with Spooky, everything is great until it isn’t, then the frustration starts. There are some poor design and materials choices and in the end, while I can handle most issues, I rather spend my time playing not tinkering to fix things that in many cases could have been avoided with better QC and more thoughtful planning.

I just upgraded to game code 4.1.2 and now my mini playfield display is showing the same information as the main Blackbox display. The mini display just shows a portion of the main display and the colors are muted. Any ideas?

Has anyone ever seen balls get stuck in the right ramp? I believe it happens when a ball is passing under the ramp drop hole and a ball falls down on top of it. It happens in rare cases, but when it happens, GAME OVER until you take off the glass. Has anyone come up with a hack/fix for this?

Perhaps the wrong thread to be saying this but I don't think alien is an insane value. If you look at the bottom of the playfield it feels less impressive, the coil/mech count not that high. The code is relatively shallow, esp compared to the GZ you have. Alien to me is great because of the overall theme integration and the unique feel/layout. If you have a few modern sterns it is a nice change of pace.

"Not a tinkerer" is another red flag imo. Compared to my all my stern NIb experienced my Alien NIB experience has been a different animal.

If you've played it and know you just have to have it, try to find a used one where all the kinks from the factory have been worked out and from there it's not too complex of a machine to keep running, just hope parts remain available.

Firmware update as well? You need to do both, then shut machine off.. unplug.. let sit for a minute replug and power on.

Firmware was already previously updated to version .72. The only thing I did was update game code from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2.

It has never happened to me. It has happened to my wife at least three times. I tell her she broke the machine and pick on her for fun. That doesnt go well...

As for a fix, I dont know of anything. Might put some thought into it. Maybe something that can be printed.

All I've had to do on my NIB RV is adjust the switch gaps on the pop bumpers.

Anyone else having issues with the sling assemblies? The riveting on the pivot point for one of our armatures broke and we had a ticket in and have been waiting patiently while the new assembly ships and then today the other one broke. I'm curious if this is something I can just buy through Pinballlife or Marco or if it's a custom design because waiting on shipping from Italy is pretty rough.

Yes to the beacon holes not matching. I just routed through the backbox vent rather than drilling or expanding the existing hole.
