lol. Thanks for the replies.

OK so everything is installed. Beacons turn on as soon as the power is on, as does the apron in a blue. But the beacons never stop spinning, and the apron starts flashing quickly this white color. The "ALIEN" part never lights up.

I am assuming that I need to run the Alien Annunciator Config Tool and update the firmware to the latest version, right? I don't have a windows laptop so I'm going to go borrow one and hope that my question will be answered by the time I return with the laptop.

If so, I think I'm all set. Apron actually fit pretty well tbh. No issues.

There is a firmware button and a software button in the config tool. Install both

This could be because you haven't installed the balls and the machine thinks it's in multiball mode.

Glad to hear the apron fits better over the trough area. You got one of the ones that the assemblers manually changed after we heard about the design change that Pinball brothers had made. Thanks for the feedback we can let our design team know that it works and we can make the change for the next batch we manufacture.

I added the balls and updated the firmware. Still no lights on the apron where it says ALIEN or where it says WEAPONS READY.

The LEDs on the apron work.

Recheck your wires on the apron. Sometimes those small pins pull out and aren't getting connected.

This is throwing off my install MOJO. Am I correct in saying the factory installed lock opto 2 backwards? And I should just correct it?

We have seen several machines where those are backwards, but apparently, it doesn't matter.

I would recommend swapping your LOCK 2, simply because we have only tested with the missing center pin at the bottom. I highly suspect it doesn't matter though.

Will do. Thanks.

Yesterday I ran all the wires and today I went to mount the apron for a test run. The ball gets stuck behind the right flipper. I read that the fix is to bend the metal. Is there a technique for doing this that won't deform the entire piece? When I apply pressure I see the entire unit start to bend.

May I ask why the right side of the apron wasn't made like the left? I don't see a reason and am wondering if this is just a mistake. I respect all the work that went into this so please don't take the question the wrong way.

You need to take it out of the machine. Don't try to bend it while it is in the machine. We talked to our assemblers about this issue for the future, but slightly bending it is the best we can do as far as a fix at this time.

Thank you for the advice, I was able to bend it safely but now I'm trying it with that taped on metal piece and doesn't even come remotely close to fitting. Looks like they took to much off the front and not enough from the back side of where the eject is. What's worse is the metal guard that protects the wood on the opposite side doesn't give clearance.

To make this work I need to do some serious grinding and have to notch a whole piece out for the guard. Am I doing something wrong or what advice do you have. Should I try tin snips or run out to ACE and get a metal grinding attachment?

On your second picture it looks like the bracket fits fine, it looks flat to the playfield it does look like it needs a little more taking off the back and not so much on the front otherwise it looks like it will function fine unless I'm missing something here. The metal guard I just can't make out where your holes are in your pics, it looks like maybe they could be a couple of mm off but you should be able to maneuver it enough to get it to fit. Others including myself had to loosen the shooter coil to get the bracket in place then re-tighten the coil. If you could send another pic showing how much the holes are off would help also. We appreciate you sending the pics as the assemblers have been asking how the fit was on those they had manually changed.

Can somebody verify that this connection is supposed to be a crossover cable?

That cable is wired correctly. Please continue working with RedDevilz and we'll get the issue resolved.

Today is the last day to vote in the Twipys, if you haven't done so already please take the time and vote for the Alien Apron for best mod, we would really appreciate it!

#1519 10 months ago

LV owners with this mod, if you want to sell the original PB beacons, please contact me.
I'm looking to buy a complete set.

When you see this mod in person it's even better than the pics and video make it out to be. Couldn't be happier. Anyway, I though I would share my magnetic becan mounting solution using an old arcade control panel I stubbed my toe on while working on the mod install.

May as well use that old stock apron for something and it's better than taking up storage space in a bin. Also in this video the strobe and becan effects in this mod are so kick ass my camera phone freaked out.

Who knew the popper (poor man's topper) would be a hit? On order is one of those face huggers from etsey to complete the look that someone posted about previously.

To anyone seing this you are looking at the old stock apron being repurposed. Not to be confused with the actual apron mod/becans. Sorry for junking up the thread.

Can you still order the apron mod? Or has it been discontinued?

Question, under the apron when I received it there are two led light strips that are taped to foam. In the install video it states these lights are for the acid burns, however, am I to assume I need to then carve out the whole to reach the actual acid burn with the lights provided. Have others done that or was those holes precut before delivery. Thanks in advance!

One of mine was great and didn’t need any adjustment to see the acid burn, the other one I removed a rectangle section just below where the hole is so it illuminated better.

Obviously, be very careful not to cut too much.

This is before and after. You could see some light coming through initially but it’s much better now.

Almost have everything wired up, however what is the best way for me to remove a T-nut as I need to get that post out prior to putting the apron in. Thanks in Advance!

#1534 9 months ago

also do I need to take the ball lock off the trough?

#1535 9 months ago

use the post...slightly unthread it from the t-nut...then push on it till it releases...but you don't have to remove it...I recall its needed to thread the longer machine screw through no?

edit....just took a look...there is a sleeved post the threaded screw threads into...you must be referring to the post that get completely removed...yeah any long screw can be used..thread it in...and give it a push into the playfield...should pop right out...

#1536 9 months ago

Ok I got the t nut out, I feel like am at the final stretch! I included pics however after removing the ball guard from the trough I was able to get it to go in, however though I can get it flush when I try to line up the holes to screw the actual playfield in place they do not align. I have to push the apron to the left the get the holes to align(It does not appear I can push it any more left then it already is). If you take a look at the pics am I missing something? Soooo close!

The screw-long machine screw, doesn't make perfect alignment...as far as the stainless steel metal piece...I had to do some surgery on it to get it to fit as have others...look back a page or to to see what it will look like...apparently there was a change in the manufacturing, not sure what exactly changed, but that piece doen't seem to fit later builds...frankly that whole piece needs to be redesigned..it just dangles there held in place by what surrouds it...

ok I finally got it in position perfectly however when I turn it all on the pin acts perfectly normal (played a full game) but zero lights on any of the apron. Thoughts on what to check first? Just a heads up I was able to successfully update the software prior to installing the apron.

Please use the support form on the website and we'll figure out what is going on. If you are not seeing any lights on the apron, I would recommend not powering on again until you get instruction from support. You should definitely see some lights on the apron. Send pics of all your boards, if you can.

ok boys and girls I am up and running. It was of course user error, as I had a 3pin come out and once I plugged it back in boom it works. I am going to order a longer cable to connect to PC and once I do, can any of you share what you set the colors to? Thank you for the quick response to my support ticket too and on a weekend!!

Firmware v2.7.38 is released:

https://www.evolutionmodsllc.com/software-and-firmware

Change Log for 2.7.38

- New 'Xeno Strobe Only' Effect: Adds new effect that causes the Ambush mode blade strobing to occur only while Xeno is operating. This mode must be turned on in the Alien Annunciator Config Tool. On the Behavior tab, you will find an option for Xeno Strobe Only. Save Settings and see what you think.
* Requires AUX Board 10

- Xeno Flash now timed differently depending on 2-mode and 8-mode beacons for a better experience. 8-mode beacons should gain the greatest benefit.

- When setting Strobe Speed to 0, the configured solid strobe color will now display instead of the strobing effect. If the strobing is having a negative effect on your playing, you can set Strobe Speed to 0 and select a color for a cool, yet less intrusive blade effect.

Just a heads up for folks with the apron, but you may want to put mylar down under the front edge of it.

I took mine off to clean and wax after dremeling the flipper bushing holes to fit my precision flipper bushings, and there's a scratch in the clear running the entire length of the front edges that's deep enough to catch my fingernail. I've noticed my clear is pretty soft, so it may just be me.

Added 10 months ago:

To clarify, I mean the edge closest to the flippers, not the playfield hangers.

Following. I'd like to get in line for the next run, if able.

^^ They’ve been sold out for a while.

So just got my apron installed. Awesome effect but I would like to have the strobing not as fast. Am I able to change that with the stock (modded) apron (and if so how) or do I need that additional board that’s being sold?
