'PINBALL LOVE' By Jeanne Marie Laskas

    The Washington Post Magazine
    December 3, 1989
    Page 26

Another one of my favorite articles. This person gets it. She is one of us and understands and describes the pinball experience perfectly. If she is still around, she would make a great speaker at one of the pinball shows.
Sorry for the mangled pages. They were ripped from the magazine and sent to me that way.

'Here's A Game That Will Make You Flip Every Time You Play' By Carl Hoffman

(The title in the table of contents is 'Pinball-Full Tilt Once More')

    Smithsonian
    January 1993
    Page 96

This article started with Roger Sharpe, like many magazine and newspaper articles from the 90's did. Roger sent them to me for an interview, I sent them to Dick Bueschel and on and on it went.
I think this article really captures how exciting the pinball world was in the late 80's and early 90's. The article covers everything. Manufacturers, designers, artists, collectors, players and historians. It really was a great time in pinball history.

    'Mega-Ball thrill ride'

    Popular Mechanics
    May, 1988
    Page 22

I assume this ride was never built. That's a shame. Revive this idea and get some pinball designers in on this and there's no telling what they could come up with.
I ran this article in the Pinball Trader in 1988 but it was in black & white.

Yeh, still has some minor bugs. Getting a lot of plays. Wife plays it too so having some fun. Getting ready to pull out a certain baseball game for serious treatment.....

Here's one for my fellow bingophiles. With apologies to all of the 'flipper games only' crowd. We know that bingos were somewhat responsible for some of the anti-pinball madness of the last mid-century. But geez, people were betting on EVERYTHING then! Not just bingos. If you have a REGULAR pinball with a knock-off button, you can bet that payoffs were happening on that game at one time.

I love the caption on the last photo in the article. "New Jersey. 1954. A woman shows off her winning card in the states first legalized church bingo match. Bally Bingos remained illegal."

You're very welcome. I had hoped more folks would have something to contribute. I know there are many more magazine articles out there. I do not have much left, other than the Playboy and Cigar Aficionado articles which I'm guessing most have already seen. I will post those if anyone is interested.
I do have newspaper articles that I will post after the magazines.

Didn't recognize any names. I do remember bingos and pinballs being everywhere i went in that big city. I started playing machines from 1966 to around 1990 in Newark NJ ad only knew about the Northward Section.

This article was reprinted (in black and white) in the November 1990 issue of the Pinball Trader. With the authors permission, I had corrected some game name/date errors in that reprint. This post of the article is as it was originally published.

I have another pinball article by the above author called 'Flipper Tripper' that appeared in the November 1977 issue of Swank magazine. I am not sure if it would be allowed here as it is X-rated material. If a moderator would OK this, I will post it. Maybe hide it? I'm not sure how that works.

I remember that one as I was in high school when it came out. A Government class used to have either Newsweek or Time delivered weekly as part of the class material. Two different teachers taught the class during different class periods. I was in the "Newsweek" class. Friends who were in the "Time" class gave me their copies as they knew that I was into pinball.

    Thanks for posting.

I bought that issue of Saturday Evening Post when it came out. For those who weren't so lucky, the story was included in a book that collected several of William Harrison's short stories.
