Quoted from Rarehero:

GB might be the one game that plays better on a video simulation ...lol. (Just guessing it doesn't have the airballs and outlane hops...I won't buy it to find out)

Does GB play right now? I have it on my I-Pad an the last time I played it the mode shots still weren't being lit up. I haven't seen an update so I haven't tried it since.

Foil hat time

Maybe Stern told TPA to choose between WMS/Bally games or Stern games, in an effort to sabotage CGC sales in the real world?

Various members here state often TPA was the gateway drug which led them into pin ownership.

Demand for RBION increased after the TPA version & I'm sure other games gained popularity from TPA as well.

Or TPA sucks & folks quit buying the shit. I know that's what happened with me.

I dig it. I just don't see the need to play fake unsatisfying pinball when I'm on the John, on a plane, etc. I also don't see how it helps anybody who can't afford a TOTAN to have a weird fake TOTAN simulation on their phone that isn't the same thing as playing TOTAN.

I played a bunch of tables through Pinball Arcade before making my last actual game purchase. While not perfect, it is great to hear the music and call-outs that are often inaudible when playing onsite. I viewed it like taking a VR tour of a real estate listing: for $100, I bought a bunch of tables and was able to rule out possible games for home use simply by playing a few rounds on certain machines in PA.

Also, I've got to say, that while the physics on PA aren't perfect, their tables often play better than real machines in the wild.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

I am currently unable to date Kate Upton, and buying the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue was a pretty poor simulation.

If you were dating Kate Upton, you wouldn't need to ogle her in a magazine.

#104 5 years ago

Well luckily i was given a cracked file by my bro with all the current tables unlocked, so im just gonna keep that then.

#105 5 years ago

Even if you dont like pinballgames, with this one you can learn the rules and shots on a cheap and fun way.

I love this game! I have almost all tables on my ipad, bought a Switch for Pinball arcade and i am so sick we can not buy williams games for it.

I do have the Switch Stern version, with acdc, star trek and both are awesome! Mustang and ghost busters are also out, and a few more. Bigbanghunter and that melonsgame are on the way.

I hope for met and iron maiden, maybe lotr... will be fantastic.

I've tried MANY times over the years to get into simulated pinball and I just can't do it. PCMAME, tablet, phone, XBox One, and even dedicated cabinet with feedback. I even purchased Pinball Arcade based on endorsements here on Pinside and by my bug guy. In the end I just can't do it. They are all just fake pinball to me. That's part of why it surprises me how many people who have decent collections are posting displeasure in this thread. I feel bad for everyone who loves this game and hope there is something else in the works to bring these titles on another platform. For myself, I honestly could not care less.

If you think of it as a pinball video game then you will have fun.

If you go into it thinking its pinball replacement then you will not have fun.

Sorta like porn. It aint real but...

Quoted from Raincity:

When the $/sqft of real estate reaches $400 or more like it has here in the Seattle area, it'd cost you $10k to add enough space for one more pinball machine. From that standpoint, I'd cringe at finding room for a $1k machine at all. Might as well spend $10k, to maximize your value per square foot!

Real estate prices in popular cities are nuts.

#109 5 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

Can’t do it on Switch cuz they pulled The Pinball Arcade within hours of launch. This is a real shame, as it’s prob the best way to play pinball on the go. Vertical orientation is great & HD rumble from the joy-cons gives you some realistic tactile feedback.

Is Farsight going to re-release TPA on Switch anytime soon? Why did they remove it?

#110 5 years ago
Quoted from Lethal_Inc:

Clearly it had something to do with this licensing issue. Perhaps they had to make a new contract for the switch version, didn’t, and had to pull it.

They’ve already stated that when it goes back up it won’t have the B/W tables....but privately the’ve told me I’ll get to keep the ones I purchsed already (I bought a pack before TPA was pulled).

#111 5 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

ust guessing it doesn't have the airballs and outlane hops...I won't buy it to find out

Actually, you're right! To be fair though, the physics in TPA across all "tables" never allows for airballs. So yes, in a sense, GB plays well on TPA.
(I'm not sure I'd say "better" as it is still not the real thing. But I get your point)

It wouldn't be the first time Stern stuck it's thumb up TPA's butt.

They are the reason the VR didn't get into the original game. They wanted to focus on the crappy mobile VR market, and stopped TPA from doing the conventional VR.

... and so much more of a time sink with getting games, configuring shit, setting up a frontend, updating shit, blah blah.

Also, not available on mobile devices, where a shit-ton of people play TPA.

Sorry but if you have the couple of hours it's pretty easy if you're okay with computers & know how to read. Really who wants to play pinball with friends on a small tablet or a 2" smart phone. IMO TPA is pretty weak; so no real loss for me. I do own a Oculus so I was hoping they would eventually make it's way there instead it made its way to that piece of shit switch.

It's a lot more than "a few hours" because there are constant updates and new releases, it's an ongoing chore.

Nobody has a 2" phone. You apparently have no concept of size. And the answer to "Really who wants to" is SHITLOADS of people. A lot of the discussion above your post is about how people play TPA on the go.

#117 5 years ago

So, I play this on my PS4, but question is, do I buy a bunch of tables for PC as well because of the potential very long future proofing that might give. Like when they add VR and other updates to the PC version those tables will follow. I'd like to see people list some kind of top list of must haves. I have S1 and will probably get at least S2 for both PC and PS4, + Addams family for both.

Is the tables in visual pinball officially licensed? How does the quality compare to TPA?

Bummer about the switch version... Ive been looking for TPA on there. Had no idea it was pulled...

#118 5 years ago

So, for the Switch people - TPA relaunches tomorrow, but it will be the B/W-less version w/ all the Stern stuff added. If you've purchased the tables in the Stern TPA for Switch, they will also work in the new TPA.

#119 5 years ago

Regarding this issue. I think the whole cross platform ownership of digital goods situation is pretty horrible. Would be great if I didn't have to buy stuff multiple times...

Quoted from Biff:

Yeah. I installed TPA on my phone and kindle thinking that if I logged in, my table would be available on either device. I only play it on a rare occasion now and I'm fine with just playing trial versions that end when I reach a certain score.

#121 5 years ago

Gave this a go on Switch last night but only having a handful of tables is pretty terrible. I guess I'll grab it on IOS while I can.

#122 5 years ago
Quoted from Darscot:

That's the "Stern Pinball Arcade" on Switch. Tomorrow "The Pinball Arcade" relaunches and will have the Sterns, Gottliebs, and whatever other non B/W pins there were available.

#123 5 years ago

I thought they said the B/W tables will be available till June? I would think that means for Switch too right?

#124 5 years ago

Negative, if switch users downloaded and bought table packs on the one day it was available they get to keep the B/W that they have, everyone else that downloads starting tomorrow gets the gutted version of TPA.

Quoted from Lethal_Inc:

Switch is different because it was pulled from the eShop within an hour or two of launch. Even purchase ability was pulled. I bought one pack before it all went down....that's the only way you'll be able to have the B/W games on Switch...if you bought them instantly that morning it came out.

Like a dope, I saw that it was on there and made a mental note to buy it later that night.

I sense a collectable download, if there is such a thing.

I wouldn't say dope. You did what most people did/do. No one knew they would pull the B/W's tables

What are some of the best Bally/Williams games that never made it to the Pinball arcade?

The only reason why I own a real TOTAN is because I played a "weird fake TOTAN simulation" on TPA and loved it.

Which reminds me - TOTAN was free on Steam so I never actually purchased it. Are we sure the Steam players get to keep it?

#132 5 years ago
Quoted from rennervision:

That was my question as well. If we don't get to keep it on Steam, and there's no way to purchase it to keep it, I'll be upset / sad.

#133 5 years ago

This is a bit sad; I wish the had figured out the multiplatform issues better.

I am tempted to buy a season a week until the end of June, but after tooling around with the program on Xbox1 last night the audio issues in Paragon have me wondering what else is lurking to be discovered...

I read somewhere on their facebook page that we get to keep it.

Correct!

They all suck.

The Switch update hit this morning. Good news for me, I did indeed get to keep the tables I bought. Unfortunately they wiped TOTAN and replaced it with Frankenstein. I guess cuz TOTAN was free and not purchased.

wtf. That is not an equitable trade. I hope they won't pull the same shit on Steam.

I thought I had read them saying totan would remain for steam users.

#141 5 years ago

I bought all the table packs for the switch today, total was $99 after taxes. Hopefully Farsight can use that to pony up some more cash for the B/W tables. I really think it came down to the rights holders wanting a better deal(and deservedly so seeing how FS keeps porting to new consoles). I'd recommend everyone else do the same, but:

A.) I think this whole thing might just be a cash grab before Farsight folds

B.) The loss of all the B/W tables leaves the game gutted. It's totally not worth the price.

Hopefully the rights holders will have an announcement soon in regards to whomever now has development of the properties.

Maybe get the pro version of the table? It's only a buck on Google play right now.

For the other versions you could always buy the pro version of TOTAN and they’d have to let you keep it.

Pulled the trigger on Season 7 last night before it goes away.

Not sure why they included Ghostbusters again.
