I don't have the income or savings to own my own machines yet and location play is virtually dead where I live as there's few machines on location in the city and those that there are aren't always in good repair. (On the other hand, our local league is thriving thanks to monthly league nights and several members having lots of pins in excellent condition!)

But for me, programs like Pinball Arcade are what have re-kindled my latent pinball interests and are helping me to build the instincts and rule-set knowledge I need to survive playing the real thing when I get the chance. There's no way it could ever replace the real thing, but computerized pinball programs serve as a good substitute for the time being until the day comes where I can afford to build my own collection, and even after that day comes the computerized programs will be good for offering a variety so that I don't overplay and get bored of the real machines I have. : B

All that said though... I do find it odd that Farsight is doing a kickstarter considering how well established they are in terms of comptuerized pinball. I suppose once they announce it maybe it'll make sense why they're doing it. My guess is that they either want to grab popular licenses that are expensive, increase the frequency of how often they release new tables which would require more staff, add new features like networked-play which again would require more staff, or some combination of those.
