I got lucky I suppose with the two I own. The first clearly was in a bar at some point. The amount of cleaning I had to do not just to the playfield areas, but just the wood on the outside and the color the paper towel would turn to using 409 on the wood was this rank orangish-yellow funk of cigarette funk. the first time I opened it up that's what sealed the deal and got me to wipe the outside off sooner than later, it still stinks, nothing like before, but since I don't leave it ventilated it's there and likely to stay.
Sure people push it too far with being anti-smoking nazis including the millions in wasted money on stupid ads that won't stop people who don't care, but it is what it is. I was able to defunk the thing for the most part inside and out, probably should get a nice box of baking soda and leave it in there for like a month and see if it does the rest. Thankfully my other was a home use only, non smoker system with little use amazing enough.
