Quoted from djreddog:To all that inquired about Blanton's. Standby. I'm going to scoop up a couple of bottles this weekend and perform one shipping test with the first person who contacted me. If all goes well I will let everyone know.
Also, I just spoke to a liquor store owner who told me they ordered a private barrel of Blanton's. He will have it in 3 weeks. Has anyone ever heard of this? Is it 100% identical to Blanton's, but just re-labeled for his store?
Did you get my reply?

Just in case someone has 3/4 of a million lying around...
Any input on these prices? High, low, normal? Anything worth grabbing?

E.H Taylor Barrel Proof 125.00
George T Stagg 2017 250.00
Highland Park Dark Origins 100.00

Thomas Handy Rye 300.00
WL Weller 12yr 100.00
William Heaven Hill 14yr 5th edition (Distillery Exclusive) 350.00
Quoted from Fulltilt:Too high for 2019. 2018.... well... that one is great and I anticipate climbing prices.
How do you know the year?
PinDeLaPin motivated me, so I stopped by a random shop (more wine) and started talking with the owner and what do ya know?!! These two were hiding on the shelves! Look at that dust on the 1792 haha.
162D6270-A624-4DD4-8726-572AD92124B1 (resized).jpegQuoted from t8tony8t:We did full proof so we won’t get as much as if we did 107.
We should get around 192 bottles from that barrel. We will pay around 49-52 per bottle. Around $9,600.
Full proof would be awesome. So 16 of us at $600/case....Seems reasonable to me.
If you’re into documentaries, there’s one on HULU called NEAT: The Story of Bourbon. I found pretty entertaining and informative while partaking in the subject matter
Pro:
NOSE
Dry corn, toffee, oak, vanilla Necco, citrus peels and Twizzlers with some bits of cocoa and mustiness.
PALATE
Oak, dried corn, citrus zest (tartness), toffee, cocoa powder, vanilla Necco and a light something that makes me thing of strawberry shortcake.
Me:
No Twizzlers or strawberry shortcake, but very drinkable. The vanilla and oak is strong with this one.

It came in a ‘Man Crate’ that the Mrs. got me. Good stuff!
Quoted from Green-Machine:Hmmm not sure how is the bourbon search in LA?
It’s tough but doable if you don’t mind paying over retail.
I happen to be Washington state right now and there’s a 20.5% spirits tax on top of the standard tax. Stopped looking for finds after I was told that
Lowest I’ve seen on OWA out here was $79...store pick. Wasn’t willing to drive in horrendous LA traffic to get there, but would’ve paid that for sure.
Quoted from PinDeLaPin:Well come out with it... what was the verdict?
Awesome! Absolutely love the mash bill and you can’t go wrong either way, but the barrel proof is on another level!! It’s exactly what bourbon should taste like
Quoted from beergut666:Is that a 2016 Old Forester Birthday Bourbon on your shelf?
Yes sir!
Quoted from Chisox:8 bottles of 4 roses single barrel store picks (all open) which would be the leaders at the moment
Why open all bottles when it’s a store pick? Honest question....
After trying William Larue Weller last night, I'd really love to get a bottle. Anyone selling one or want to trade?
Quoted from PinDeLaPin:I've been looking for a bottle of it for about 3yrs now. A local shop had a high end bourbon auction a few months ago and the 1 bottle they had went for $700. Needless to say I didn't get the bottle.
So drink as much as I can at $20 a pour?!
Is the Weller Antique worth $100? Just missed a delivery of it this morning and resellers asking that.
So do they blend whiskeys and then age it 14yrs or source 14yr old whiskeys and then blend them without aging?
Quoted from DBLM:I know you were searching for this. What is your review?
Slightly sweet with just the right amount of heat. I like it better than the Blantons I traded it for, so a win in my book!
Yeah that's in line with the price I was told. Seems super high compared to the other Weller offerings. I like the other offerings in the line, but don't think I like them that much!!
This JD is damn tasty...kinda cool they state the barrel weight. Apparently a filled barrel weight about double this and the evaporation leave a more full flavored whiskey. This was from a couple years ago when I was at the distillery.

Had a nice little hump day score...

And then pour it in a different bottle? Or drink it all on the same day
Quoted from Chisox:It’s only a 90 proofer, down the hatch it goes. If not I would just grab a cork from another bottle that’s almost gone or shitty enough where you don’t care if it gets aerated.
Bottle got toasted tonight! Can’t complain, it was delicious
Quoted from DBLM:It is 78 degrees here in MD right now but will drop to the 50's for the weekend. I just poured 4 fingers of Henry McKenna BiB that I got from tkdalumni during Secret Santa and getting ready to clean the grill. The McKenna is delightful! Have a good weekend, all!
Awesome man! Cheers
Quoted from PinDeLaPin:Ok you can call me an official Smoke Wagon groupie. So this stuff is really good. I can only imagine what the uncut and unfiltered bottle tastes like.[quoted image]
Big fan here too. The founder is a really good/entertaining follow on IG also:

171A6FB3-4539-4728-A2E4-AB1700A5E1D6 (resized).jpegQuoted from Green-Machine:I’d go for the GTS. We all enjoy different flavor profiles. I find GTS a leg above OFBB Of it is just my opinion
I haven’t had either. I really enjoy 1920 and Stagg Jr though. Looks like BB is winning...
Quoted from Chisox:Buddy was blowing out a bunch of bottles so I scooped another 2018 Stagg. I really want to stop buying all this whiskey but it keeps finding me.[quoted image]
Damn hard to turn that down!! If you just can't pull the trigger in the future, shoot me a message
Quoted from PinDeLaPin:I wasn't very impressed with that Larceny barrel proof. It's got an almost acidic or high tannin taste to it. I added a splash of water to it which did help mellow it down but definitely not enough to make it very appealing. As always I will be giving it a 2nd trylike I do all bottles I don't care for. If anything changes either way I will post those results.[quoted image]
Did you give the Larceny BP a second shot?
Quoted from Fulltilt:All I could come up with was Pappy. (:[quoted image]
BBB and Pappy...man you’re slumming it!
Read an article today that said Weller 12 is basically Van Winkle Lot B. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I really enjoy 12, but haven’t tried Pappy.
This Old Carter Batch #5 is really good stuff!! Definitely recommend if you can stomach the price.

Mark and Sherri Carter, who helped found the Kentucky Owl brand in 2014, founded Old Carter in 2018 as a home for rare, barrel-strength blends of bourbon, rye, and American whiskey that they create to be bold and unique
Quoted from PinDeLaPin:Ok here we go
[quoted image]
I like your style! Don’t waste anytime!!
I really enjoy the 2019 release. Haven’t been able to find the 2020, but I’d pull the trigger in a heartbeat if I did.
Have a chance to grab this wilderness trail. Worth the $90-$100 it’ll be? https://kybourbontrail.com/wilderness-trail-distillery-to-release-first-6-year-old/
Quoted from DBLM:Love it!
Sharing one of my favorite comedy routines of all time, Larry Miller's legendary "5 Levels of Drinking." Just killer delivery. I figure that this would land with this crowd.
HILARIOUS!!! Sharing this with some friends
Quoted from PinDeLaPin:That is some serious haziness in that glass for a minute I thought it was orange juice
Haha yeah it does!
Quoted from kcZ:I've been looking for a bottle of that forever
I’ve never seen one in a store either. I traded for the bottle I have...
$21 but limit one. All Weller is ultra allocated. Sometimes I drag the wife in to get a second, but this was a drop in.
Quoted from beergut666:I'm not a fan of those types of package deals, but at least the other bottles are drinkable. Vodka isn't really my thing but I do keep a bottle around for guests and the occasional bloody mary, the Wheatly is perfectly fine for that.
I agree but was low on mixers, so it worked out this time.
Quoted from djreddog:$299 a good price for the barrel proof Taylor?
That’s about 2x’s retail. But like all of these limited releases good luck finding them...It’s damn good stuff though!!
Quoted from PinDeLaPin:Which do you like better the Weller or the Taylor full proof?
EHT FP !!
Anyone tried or have any thoughts on Garrison Brothers Cowboy Bourbon? I have a chance to grab a bottle and apparently there's only like 6000 in the release. It was the American Whiskey of the Year in Jim Murray’s 2014 & 2017 Whisky Bibles, but don't know much more.
Quoted from beergut666:It's kind of a scorcher. I like high proof stuff but to me the one I tried (2019 release) was kinda one note and there is no way I'd pay the asking price I see them sell for.
Ok appreciate the feedback!
Haven’t tried either myself but I see them regularly on the shelves around here for $30 or so. Probably other Bourbons you’d want to try first..
Quoted from PinDeLaPin:Was your bottle from this year or last year?
[quoted image]
Same year, same proof! Looks like a hot one
I think OWA for $80- $100 is a fair value. That's about double MSRP, but if you really want to enjoy some and you can't find it...
Quoted from PinDeLaPin:Has anyone seen the single barrel or tried the single barrel Weller? I haven't seen it anywhere and no idea the price point on it or if it is any different.
Got one, but haven't tried it yet. Paid $120....Figured I'd never see it again.
Quoted from PinDeLaPin:U need to crack that open and try it. You can let me know if it's worth pursuing.
I had super high hopes, so not fully dismissing the RH...just didn’t have the kind of complexity that say an EHT BP has
Is Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend worth $150? I have been known to light one up every single now and then, but not sure if the juice is worth the squeeze. Looking for feedback before tomorrow or it’s gone.
“ Artfully blended to enjoy with a fine cigar. A combination of award-winning Joseph Magnus Bourbon and 11 and 18-year-old whiskeys to assume bold, rich aromas of tobacco, spice, leather, vanilla, blanched almonds, and toffee. The Armagnac cask finish lends fruity notes of fig, prune, and dried apricot.”
42BB2748-7FBA-4814-8772-6097CA971331 (resized).jpeg
Quoted from DBLM:I think it is the best of the Magnus offerings. Price and value are subjective, but I enjoyed it.
Appreciate the feedback. Would you buy it again?
So I ended up grabbing the Magnus Cigar Blend (FOMO I guess). It’s batch #27 which uses 12-20yr barrels, Armagnac Cask #8, 121.31 proof. I’ll break it open around Thanksgiving with family and, of course, a cigar.
Side note: When do you have to start admitting you have more Bourbon than you’ll probably drink?? *asking for a friend*
40E7F607-4D21-4C96-B937-85A142A3346C (resized).jpegQuoted from Chisox:I have never had ER 17. I would pick WLW though, I prefer the 130ish proof of WLW over the 101 of ER.
The proof on WLW definitely caught my attention!
