    Longtime lurker, first time poster.

Making the switch from scotch to bourbon to broaden my palate. My scotch of choice is Balvenie, and I just picked up a bottle of Buffalo Trace.

Any other intro level bourbons? I prefer to drink neat in a glencairn.

    ^^
Thanks for the suggestions. I prefer a milder sipper with a sweet, oaky nose. Not a fan of peat. I go back and forth with casks (sherry casks with Macallan, rum casks with Balvenie Caribbean).

I typically keep higher quality sippers and 'decent' $30 bottles for cocktails (Makers). I bought the Buffalo Trace as a mixer but read good reviews about the spice, nose, etc.

I’ll give 4 Roses a try along with the other suggestions. Thanks!

Thanks for the advice everyone. Just picked up 4 Roses after Buffalo Trace and will try Elijah Craig next.

So tonight I started with 4 Roses, then Buffalo Trace, then went to scotch with Balvenie 12.

The 4 Roses was nice, well-rounded with an even flavor. Buffalo Trace was definitely sweeter with less heat. I went to the scotch to compare. As I said earlier, I'm normally a scotch guy. Going from bourbon to scotch made the flavor differences even more apparent. The Balvenie had a oaky, fig nose. You can definitely taste the cask. Bourbon, by comparison, is a smooth, easy drinker but not as 'complex.'

I like the Buffalo Trace a bit more than the 4 Roses, but I'm glad to broaden the palette. Good times!

Many thanks for the suggestions, guys! I’m a convert.

I already polished Buffalo Trace and 4 Roses Small Batch. Just picked up Elijah Craig and 4 Roses Small Batch Select.

I really liked the Buffalo Trace and would have bought another bottle but they were out. I’ll have to make do until next time.

I don't check in often, but thanks for all the photos and reviews. I'm a bourbon convert after years of drinking only Scotch and Irish whiskey. I've gone through bottles of Buffalo Trace, Four Roses, Eagle Rare, Jefferson, 1792, etc. Love 'em!

Many thanks to my bourbon secret santa! The bottle is tucked safely away and ready to open on Christmas Day...

    Quoted from Jodester:

If there was ever a day to drink, this was it.
And a cursory pic of my dog.

    Quoted from Green-Machine:

One ice cube 3 ounces of bourbon three dashes of orange bitters 1 tablespoon simple syrup. Stir and let’s sit two minutes. Enjoy

I recommend brown sugar. I picked up some brown sugar cubes for the Old Fashioned and it’s pretty tasty.
