Any recommendations for my next bottle... I'm a newbie. Started a after reading this thread. Shot and a half with an ice cube before bed and I sleep very well.
Started with Makers and really liked it. Second bottle was Beam Black which I didn't enjoy nearly as much.
I have a bottle of Evan Williams single barrel waiting.

So no, the lack of an ice cube isn't what made it bad - it's just bad.

I think their barrels were tainted. Maybe presoaked in turpentine. The smell was equally as bad

There was an empty row of Four Roses single barrel. Guess I didn’t get to the store in time. Would have been nice to have that one too. Prices are pretty rough in Vermont and we don’t have nearly the selection as most, but I make due.

How many different 1xxx does Old Forester have? I got 1920, here is 1910, I thought I saw a 18xx here too.

I leave my bottles in the open where there is plenty of sunlight. Should I put them in the cabinet away from the sun? I don't tend to collect too many bottles but I make get there someday.

I've picked up that Evan Williams from our local Costco as well. I would say it was OK. Liking the Old Forester better.

I was tempted to try the Old Forester Statesman... May have to stop back there for that one sometime soon (it is on my way home from work afterall).
I grabbed a bottle of Baker's. I also want to grab one of those Booker's too but spending $80+ on a bottle of bourbon is something that I've not done yet.

For the $, the left isn't bad; the middle wasn't my cup of tea; and the right is too rich for my blood, considering what it is, (MGP juice, no different than the Smooth Ambler that used to sell for $45 a few years back...) and was just "ok" to my palette.
That said, Michter's US-1 is pretty good for the money ($45), is a maple syrup bomb, punches above it's weight class and hold's its own against much costlier competitors, and is very similar to the WP10.
Unless it's a THH or a Saz18, I'm out of my comfort zone spending much more than $40 for ANY rye. YMMV.
Michter's US-1 is great stuff. I'm afraid to open my bottle as the last one disappeared quite quickly and it took me awhile to find another although I think that I may have a good steady source for that one now.

Prices seem a bit higher than what I've been seeing on most all of them. I like the Blaum Bros but I bet that you've tried that one.

Several stops but found a couple really good spots. Old Fitzgerald, on the shelf for 99.99. Belle Meade, the Smokewagons and they gave me 10% off.
Then the Old Elk single barrel with those elk head pourer will be a great addition to the liquor cabinet. My phone was buzzing constantly with friends wanting that, I walked out with two cases.
Found a bottle of OF Birthday Bourbon, nearly had to walk back in to buy it for a friend at $400 but that markup was a bit hard to stomach. Oh, that same store had about 10 bottles of Old Fitz for $300 per

Sadly just after my tasting last night, I got word that my dad took a critical turn for the worse. After straightening myself up from the tasting, had to drive 3 hours plus each way to visit and to say goodbyes. At some point over the next few days, we are going to reach a natural conclusion after care is stopped. There are a lot of moving pieces right now, and sadly COVID adds factors of complexity.
This is a long way around the horn to say I may or may not be able to join the Zoom tomorrow night. You've seen my hauls. I have a group of about 6 guys that I buy for. I send them pics from the liquor store and start taking orders, is how it has been working. PayPal me the money after and we'll work out delivery which will be the slight tricky part with some of you but I'm sure we could figure out the shipping.

With all the crap that went down for me this week... I'd love to make a run but one of those was my wife getting Covid. She'll be fine but we're quarantined. I got the swab up the nose today but no chance I got it.. I'm sure that I had it January when she did not

It was some sort of special that the liquor store was running buy their store pick and get an elk head pourer. This was from one of my bourbon runs, it was a big hit with the group. My phone was going off non-stop while I was in the store so I grabbed 2 cases. They even gave me a discount since I bought so much.
Ended up coming to $50/bottle with tax. Damn good deal, IMHO.

I think that I've seen that. I've had their Rye (not sure on the color of the label) and was not a fan at all so much that I don't like their bourbon now either.

Personally, I would pull it apart and inspect the parts. If all is well then reassemble with the proper gap (credit card thickness) between the flipper and the playfield.

I got Stagg Jr coming out my ears out here in Montana. Cases of Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel too. First time seeing a 1.75 of Weller SE.

Next pour for the night is some John J Bowman, I heard it is a better substitute for Elmer T Lee which I've not been able to find. I do pick up a hint of chocolate but not too much like the Woodford Master Collection that I sampled this past weekend.

Quick notes: Smells like a very smooth Bookers. Tasting notes on the tag are brown sugar, burnt wood, and cherries. I buy all of that. Very smooth, medium finish. Fantastic bourbon. I will have to compare it with Little Book 2 but from recollection, I would put this behind the 2. That is not a put down at all and speaks to how good Little Book 2 is.

Grabbed it from one of my favorites south of the WI/IL border. I almost passed it up but I recalled someone on here posted it. This is the same store that I bought Old Fitzgerald for $90 so I figured this may be worth buying as well.

It is very complex. I don't pick up too much on the spice but I do taste some sugar cookie. I get different flavors each sip, some fruity.
It's improving in my opinion now that you've made me think about it more.

That's the thing... I've wanted Joseph Magnus but couldn't stomach the price since I've never heard anything about it. Then on one of my runs a friend said Murray Hill was good stuff and when I saw it was from Joseph Magnus, I bought. Now I'll have to try Joseph Magnus.
