Got something new to try tonight.

    Quoted from Green-Machine:

Applewood smoked bourbon! Do tell us what you think of it

    Quoted from PinDeLaPin:

Well you have my attention now so looking forward to a review on it good bad or ugly

I am thoroughly enjoying it. I suck at describing taste but I know what I like. The smell reminds me of a good Islay Scotch. Upon sipping it fills your whole palette and a second later your lips start to tingle which being unfiltered, uncut, 120 proof and young you knew it would. I love hot/spicy so this works very well for me. Then it settles to a sweet slightly smokey/caramel. So Good.

Tossing in a cube is a whole new experience. As it melts it starts to feel like a fine Cognac/Brandy. Much caramel/toffee and not as much spice but still a light tingle. I don't think the taste equals the smoke smell but if you don't care for smoke you would probably be best picking something else.

My wife got me a cheese Advent calendar this year and tonight was an applewood cheddar, what a great pairing.

Pulled from a review site: "Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma is very powerful… you can smell the raw Bourbon spice along with the vanilla, hot toffee, and wild western herbal notes with a bit of apple.

    Flavor / Taste / Palate
Even if you drink your Whiskey straight, this Bourbon blooms with a single ice cube — revealing notes of pecan pie, braised apples, caramel apples, thick baking spices, and tobacco smoke."

I'm not sensitive enough to get all those different flavors but I definitely feel my money was well spent on Iron Smoke Casket Strength.

Here is my selection for tonight.

I always enjoyed 1792 and am really enjoying the full proof. This stuff is good, I think I will have to get some more.

    #10377 3 years ago
    Quoted from PinDeLaPin:

I am a fan of all the 1792 line. Matter of fact I grabbed this one today
    [quoted image]

Haven't seen that one yet, I will keep an eye out.

    #10415 3 years ago

Gonna be a mellow night for me.

    Rye Mondays?[quoted image]

Any day is a good day for rye.

    #10527 3 years ago
    Quoted from Daditude:

What a your rye of choice?

So many good ones and ones I haven't even tried. Kozuba & Sons is great for the price. Another cheaper option Redemption is better than I thought it would be and Knob Creek. Bulleit works and I've always enjoyed Michter's.

    Quoted from DBLM:

Now if Jaws came out, that might stop me getting this pin. But we shall see.

Good on you, Richard Kiel deserves his own pin now that he has passed on.

    Thanks!
    Know anything of this bourbon?
    [quoted image]
    [quoted image]

Never seen it before but it would be hard to pass up.

    #10774 3 years ago

Stopped to pick up some Wild Turkey 101 today and when I got to the checkout they had Buffalo Trace for $24 so I had to get some more. Last weekend I stopped by a local store and they wanted $38 for BT! So another BT night for me. Cheers all.

    Quoted from schudel5:

Retirement gift and Christmas gift from my employer just a few days ago. I like them both but the Woodford might be finished first.
    [quoted image]

Is that because you like the Woodford better? I tend to hoard my favorites and finish the others first, just wondering how other people do it.

    #10927 3 years ago

Russell's single and 1792 full for me tonight. I'm having a pretty good Christmas. Merry Christmas all and hopefully a great new year for us all.

    Quoted from Daditude:

I just found out a good friend of mine passed away. He was very young. I will be drinking heavily as I am feeling down.
    His name was Zach.
I hope everyone will enjoy a drink in his memory.

Lifting one now, cheers my friend.

    #10985 3 years ago
    Quoted from PinDeLaPin:

My bottle was really hot and literally numbed my lips and upper mouth.

Sounds right up my alley. Thumbs up.

I'm thinking to update my avatar..... votes?
    [quoted image]

I like your current one. I don't count for shit but that is a really good one.

    #11166 3 years ago

Going low rent tonight. I really liked the Kentucky bourbon they had a few years back. This stuff isn't bad but it will probably be used for cocktails. I plan on having at least six different bourbons tonight. Happy New Year.

    Quoted from PinDeLaPin:

I retract my previous statement about the nice people in this thread

Made me think of this. I'm about ready for my 5th bourbon so I'm pretty good right now. Happy New Year everyone.

We have all mostly enjoyed this bottle of Russels Reserve and I enjoyed this Jack one made me go bananas
    [quoted image][quoted image]

I saw the JD single today but wasn't sure about it since it was JD. Nice to hear you like it. For the price I might try it now.

    #11535 3 years ago

Based on Jackontherocks recommendation here is my drink for the night.

    IMG_6956 (resized).jpgIMG_6956 (resized).jpg
    #11539 3 years ago
    Quoted from Jackontherocks:

Hope you dig it brother, let me know. Cheers

It is good, not much like regular JD. The barrel mine came from was a good one and it leaves a banana taste at the end. I would prefer a little more burn so those who don't like smoke or burn here is a sweet 130+ proof for you.

    #11542 3 years ago
    Quoted from Jackontherocks:

Cool I just thought it was so different than the others I have tried recently and posted in the thread

It is different and different is good. I would definitely enjoy this again, it really comes around and kicks you.

    #11544 3 years ago

That red label store pick is great. Mine was picked by some guys from Orlando and they did a good job.

    #11549 3 years ago

If by mean you are trying to say high proof and you seek inexpensive you can't go wrong with Wild Turkey 101 right around $20 and Costco's bourbon is 103 and mixes really well for $30.

I worked with that manatee for 14 years.
