All of these are fine bourbons. Makers is my go to but if I want to really relax I go with Booker's straight and a Fuente Fuente Opus X. That is a manly combination.

    #29 7 years ago

These are not all bourbons, but this is what I have sitting on top of the back bar right now. The two best tequilas in the world (Don Julio Real and Herrudura Seleccion Suprema), two awesome Lagavulin scotches, Johnny Blue, Yamasaki, some Bookers, some Makers, a really nice Bushmills, etc. All the rest of the booze is on rollouts down below.

Collecting tequilas is fun and the good ones taste more like a cognac or whiskey. I have some for the taste and some for the bottles. All in all, I have over 50 tequilas. They used to be relatively cheap but similar to bourbon, have become popular recently and the price has gone up.

OH SHIT, you're going to make me buy that bottle aren't you!
    Is it good? (:

I like the 3 better than the 2. The 5th is going for about 500 around here and I think is overpriced.

Has anybody tried Blood Oath? It is fantastic!

    #702 5 years ago
    Quoted from Fulltilt:

    Well good. I grabbed a 3 well under $500.

I paid about 280 for the 3 when it came out. The 5 is going for so much because of the distiller dying.

I know that this will bring out the flames but I bought a bottle of Stagg Jr 127 proof last night (59 bucks) and I think it is severely over rated. It has heat (alcohol) with no flavor and I put it way behind Bookers for similar proof. It is similar to a lot of recent bottles (Kentucky Owl, Whistle Pig V, etc) that I think are severely over ranked. The last good bottle I bought was the Knob Creek 25th.

    #917 4 years ago
    Quoted from Chisox:

No flames thrown here. We all have different tastes and I’ll never bash another person’s opinion. That batch 11 Stagg Jr. is really great though

I tried it again today and did have a better opinion on it. I don’t know if I would buy it again but it definitely was not as bad as I recalled when I posted.

Looking forward to trying this. My local store had some made up for them and they got to pick out the staves used to age this. Could be something to it or just marketing, but at 111 proof I thought I would pick up a bottle. Will let everybody know how it is.

I have Pact 4 and love it!

    #992 4 years ago

Price at least on the 4 was about 150 around here. They went very fast.

    #999 4 years ago
    Quoted from PinDeLaPin:

Oh yeah that makes sense otherwise for that price I'd be down for a road trip and buy all the shit they had

Sorry about the confusion. The Pact 4 was 150 and sold out pretty immediately. I have not had the other Pacts but from what I have heard this has been the best received out of the group so far.

And I forgot all about it ...

Not getting political but this is a joke. Some people get to speak, others do not. All types of biases. Bourbon helps.

You were absolutely correct. Ice does open this up. This is fantastic!

@pindelapin, you called it that this good. I personally like it better than Stagg Jr, for about the same proof, but that is just me. I will have to run back to the other county to load up. There, the ABC stores are run by the county so they get great allocations and purchase power.

    #1844 4 years ago

That is a helluva good price. I just paid about 60 for the Private Select (Store Selection).

    #1893 4 years ago

It's called the Century Bar. Have been there a bunch of times. Great vibe, good selection of bourbon, and really knowledgable staff. Highly recommended. https://www.centurybourbon.com

Has anybody ever been to Canon in Seattle? One of the top ten bars in the world. I had Pappy 23 there but they are known for their mixed drinks. Just check out the pics. http://www.canonseattle.com

    #1898 4 years ago

I dropped about 400 in a few hours. It only has a few tables but the food is great. There big thing is mixology. They smoke ice, infused drinks, everything. One of their signature drinks smokes in a Sherlock Holmes pipe. One drink they made me that was bourbon, Champaign, grape fruit, and a few others took about 10 mins to make with all the things they did. They said they had about 4,000 boozes in stock. Was definitely a blast.

    #1905 4 years ago
    Quoted from Chisox:

Sounds great. I wouldn’t even know where to start on that list. I’d probably just be a deer in headlights and order a beer lol.

It was a little intimidating. Because so much of the place is the production and craftsmanship that goes into things I didn’t want to go order bourbon on the rocks (besides the Pappy). Due to this, you just have to talk with the mixologists. They ask you what you like and a few other questions and go from there. Best to have an open mind and bankroll when you got to a place like this.

    #1927 4 years ago

Bookers is my favorite. It is a very strong flavor and high in alcohol content. I prefer it to Stagg Jr, which is close to Booker’s in proof.

    #1943 4 years ago
    Quoted from PinDeLaPin:

Anyone tried the new 4 roses single barrel select? It's not sold in missouri and wasn't sure if it was worth pursuing?

I really like it. Good, full flavor. Very smooth.

    #2033 4 years ago

Glad that you liked it @kkuoppamaki. The place is legit! What were some of the best concoctions they made for you?

    #2035 4 years ago

I had the Pappy 23 there. Nice hunk of ice and a good pour. Very straightforward.

With that being said, you don’t go there to just get a drink over ice. Kind of like not getting a boat up on plane (screw car analogies, boat analogies are better). If you are not going to experiment and be adventurous, Canon is not the right place to go.

    #2046 4 years ago

Really happy with what I found today. Picked up the Pact 5 for $159 and went to another store and they had the Pact 4 for $119. I already have a bottle of Pact 4 and it is a fantastic bourbon. Anybody else have any experience with these?

You guys have a favorite bang for the buck bourbon? So far I think it's these three for me. There are better of course but for around $24, $22, $27 (left to right) these just seem like such a good deal and are all pretty good.[quoted image]

Woodford Is hard to beat for the price. My go to is Makers, and Four Roses definitely is great bang for the buck.

    #2070 4 years ago

Mine was 119. I have seen the rye for more

    #2111 4 years ago
    Quoted from PinDeLaPin:

That's not too awful bad at all considering I was told by 1 shop owner whenever he gets his 2 allocated bottles he is putting an $800 price tag on each of his.

That is a ridiculous price. Stagg is good but is nowhere near my favorite. I could by several high end bottles for the same price and be much happier.

I find Blantons to be ok but not with the hype trying to find it (not readily found around here for some reason). For the price point, I think there are better bourbons.

I know everybody on here likes the Stagg Jr but it did nothing for me. The one that I had had alcohol but no flavor. If I want high proof, I much prefer Bookers.

Sprained my ankle today so drinking some Blood Oath 4. Doing a much better job for me vs the Advil.

I am drinking Makers and watching Predator with my daughter, I contend that it is a Thanksgiving movie because if you survive the Predator, you have a lot to be thankful of! The transfer is in 4K HDR and you would never believe this movie is 30 plus years old. We just put DefInitive Technology speakers in the ceiling for Atmos support as part of the remodel so you hear bullets bouncing around everywhere. This makes me want a real Predator pinball so bad!

I sell analytics software to the government and had at one point a team of data scientists that worked for me that I would sell their services. When you see what people can do with data and social media it will make you never want to do social media. Case in point, with about 7 FB postings algorithms can determine race, sex, creed, political leanings, sexual orientation, income levels, etc.

Just remember, when you don’t pay for a product, you are the product.

I know a lot of you guys are BT specialty guys but for the money, I am a big fan of the Country Ham. I think it is Bookers best expression ever.

That is a great view! What is out your window?

    Quoted from PinDeLaPin:

Nothing really theres a water tower about a mile and a half away and a subdivision to the right of it thats about 6 miles away.

Still a nice view. We had 20 mph gusts so you had whitecaps out here. Good day to stay in and drink.

So I just got back from a cruise for work (sales kick off) and as part of it they got all of us the unlimited drink pass. As part of this, I sampled everything. A lot. Between the various bars and the duty free I drink a lot of Buffalo Trace, various Wellers, some Blantons amongst things like Makers, Four Roses, Bulleit, etc and I have come to one conclusion: I am not a big fan of the Buffalo Trace distillery.

Buffalo Trace was just ... ok? Not bad, but too light for my palate. Blanton’s was fine when I could find it. I know this is going to be heretical to say it with this crowd but I hated Weller. I tried, black, green, and red and did not like any of them. Outside of Makers (and I prefer the higher octanes of Makers), I like strong, full flavor bourbons. I prefer stronger wheatted bourbons to lighter ones. BT products are hard to find around here so I wanted to give them a good try. I have gone through a bottle of Stag Jr, have had Pappy 23 and 20 (liked 20 better than 23), and combined with all of the drinking I did this week it just makes me realize that their mash bills are not for me.

I know the BT products share mashbills but they are just not my wheelhouse. Has anybody else experienced where they pretty much write off a distillery similar to me?

    Quoted from PinDeLaPin:

I pretty much can't stand any makers mark products.

That’s fair. It appears that you and I might have different flavor palates. How do you like things like Bookers and Jefferson’s Aged at Sea?

Sorry you guys are having a shit week; I am having a pretty good week. I started a new job back in July and just got word this week that I am landing two new major clients and getting my existing customer to renew and expand. In my line of work I switch jobs on average every 3-4 years, so I am always dealing with a ramp period. Lot of hard work is paying off, which feels good.

Just curious, what type of work do you guys do? I do enterprise software sales.

It helps that I really believe in the company I work for. Not only do we produce very good liquid, we have an outstanding leadership group, and a healthy/comfortable work environment that fits into my personal outlook on life and the world.

My liquor storage is modest right now until I finish out this part of the basement. Gets the job done, though. We are just wrapping up a two year remodel on this house so I have to take care of the dock before this part of the basement. Will ultimately turn this part into my game room and will add another pin or two. My pool table is disassembled at the time. Can’t wait to get that setup.

    Quoted from beergut666:

The last bottle I bought was probably nine months ago and I paid $28. The last drop I noticed was around thanksgiving and I passed it up when I saw it because honestly I'm not a huge fan. It was still in the $25-$35 range at the stores I was in. I haven't seen it since so I'm not sure if my area will be seeing the drastic price jump that everyone is saying has happened. If it does go up to the $50+ mark I'll never buy another. It wasn't that long ago that this was a $20 bottle that sat on shelves collecting dust.

It was about $35/bottle last week in the duty free on the cruise that I was on. I tried it several times based upon recommendations of folks on here and am just not a fan of it. I will be glad to be on the look out for folks BT products as their mash bill just does not suit my palate.

    #3661 4 years ago
    Quoted from PinDeLaPin:

Man all you guys that don't like it that's totally okay but man buy it and offer it up here to people on the group cuz that's hell a cheap. It is almost always as stated above like $100 at most places and also as stated I used to buy it for like $15 a bottle about 5 years ago

Will be on the lookout for you. Just curious, why do you think the price has shot up so much? I personally think and have seen some people say things that back it up is that the price has risen because it shares the same mash bills with the high end BT stuff and collectors are just trying to snatch up whatever they can. I have seen this in the tequila markets (sometimes the only difference is the bottle) and learned my lesson there.

    #3663 4 years ago
    Quoted from PinDeLaPin:

Yeah I don't really see the issue of sharing a mash bill being that big of a deal. Aging is what makes a very big difference and the proof of the product when it is put into a barrel makes a difference and at what proof they cut it after aging has been achieved. Why the price has gone up? That is very speculative but I would say the amount of people that are now all of a sudden interested in Bourbon is just ridiculous. I think it's a trend and I think it will go away because just a few years ago vodka dominated the liquor store shelves go into a liquor store now and you will see that those shelves that were dominated by vodka are now dominated by bourbon

Thanks for sharing. I tend to like higher proof bourbons and go by flavor profile. I think a lot of people are getting into the age statements but for bourbon, age does not necessarily equal quality. From my own experience and what I have read, you can overage things and just because they are old doesn't mean that they are good. I even see this on scotch.

I’ve never had it, any of the chapters. That’s why I want you to try it haha. We’re re-doing a bathroom up in the loft in my house and today was toilet/vanity/faucet installation. Just a comedy of stupid shit popping up, 3 trips to the hardware store blah blah.....I have to jigsaw a big hole in the vanity because of the plumbing and my wife HAS to have this particular vanity that is going to be the death of me. Installed the faucet all the way to the second to last step and had to dis-assemble the whole thing because the directions didn’t specify the direction of a bracket and of course it was backwards. I was planning on working on my pins all day tomorrow but now I have to work on the bathroom again grrr...

Bathrooms are the fucking worst. My master is over a garage so close to 350 sq ft. Damn vanities were about 3k each before plumbing. You can spend as much as you want in hardware. I saved thousands by opening corporate accounts (I am just a homeowner) but still high end plumbing is expensive. Good luck with that.

    #3761 4 years ago

Ok, how many on this list are you guilty of? I am guilty of 4. List is from the Tater-Talk Blog

Reasons you are a whiskey tater…..
    1. Buy spots in a whiskey raffle when the bottle is 20% over market
    2. Pay secondary mark up price for any bottle that has just recently become scarce, ie age stated EC 12, when you passed it up on shelf less than 6 months ago
    3. Instaflip bottles only to buy them back within a month
    4. Own a full set of Orphan Barrels
    5. Buy blended whiskeys in plastic handles while "dusty hunting"
    6. Purchase a bottle of whiskey because a shelf talker mentioned it ‘won’ an award
    7. Sell whiskey in secondary market stating because your wife makes you, have bills to pay, or any reason having to do with poor money management skills
    8. Put ice in a Glencairn
    9. Refer to anything Van Winkle or from Stitzel-Weller as "Pappy"
    10. Purchase any Pappy & Co merchandise
    11. Post video reviews if your name isn't Ralfy
    12. Have seriously spoken the phrase, “liquid gold, bygone era, dusty goodness, or in the wild”
    13. Sell or collect empty bottles
    14. Pay to be in any type of bourbon group or for access to barrel picks
    15. Camp out overnight for Pappiez
    16. Have multiple Weller 12/OWA/?? Vattings "aging."
    17. Type or say the phrase "This just happened" or "Today was a good day" when referring to your whiskey purchase
    18. Posting bottles in Bourbon and Guns/SW Showcase/BourbonR and then later the same day FS on BSM/BX/SWT v2
    19. Liking your own Facebook bourbon group comment/post
    20. Justify your purchase of xyz bottle by saying you traded an ORVW 10 that I had only had $50 in as part of the deal.
    21. Offering a platter of turds in ISO of a unicorn
    22. Use the term ‘whiskey journey’ or ‘bourbon journey’ in a sentence
    23. Own a full set of Woodford Reserve Master's Collection bottles
    24. Organize of vertical tasting Bourbon barrel aged maple syrups
    25. Fund any distillery start up using Indiegogo or any crowd source funding site so you can be part of the ‘experience’
    26. If a bottle is FS in a group, you make offers/try to buy bottles in the background of that bottle’s picture
    27. You peel labels off bottles and keep them in a scrapbook
    28. Buying whiskey you don’t even like, but you have to have it to complete your vertical.
    29. Add a C + S label only on a bottle
    30. If traveling and visiting a new city, you post on social media group asking for locals to provide you location hard to find allocated whiskey in their best stores/honey holes
    31. Starting a ISO/FS on secondary post with any long explanation of why you are buying/selling
    32. Posting a picture on social media of a bottle and asking if it’s good after you already purchased it
    33. Buy specialty ‘whiskey water’ to add to your whiskey vs tap or routinely available bottled water
    34. Pay over $75 for any bottle of Canadian whiskey
    35. Even though you don’t like the bottle or consider it overpriced, you buy it anyways because you consider it a ‘good find’
    36. For a long weekend away from your bunker and pour out and label more than 10 50ml bottles so you can still taste everything
    37. Apply a wax top to bottle you own to make it ‘special’
    38. If you pay a premium to buy a vertical/horizontal collection over the already inflated secondary market price
    39. If you get together with friends for whiskey drinking and play any game involving cards that is not poker
    40. Post whiskey crotch shots or selfies with your ‘finds’ on social media
    41. The fact that this list offends you rather than humors you
    42. Buy Blade and Bow bottles until you complete your key set
    43. Rush out to buy any bottle Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible names as an award winner. Double tater for immediately listing said bottle on secondary sites at 50% premium as to what it was selling
    44. Cost plus ship or sell at just slightly above cost large qtys of bottles just so you can build relationship/points with a retailer in hopes of landing an allocated item
    45. Keep a spreadsheet that tracks what is in your infinity bottle or posting to social media about what you have in it
    46. Not knowing the difference between AH Hirsch and Hirsch bottles but posting away like a badass thinking you do
    47. Become a whiskey blogger so you can get free samples
    48. If you walk into a store looking for "rare" whiskey, and happily leave with a hand-sold bottle of Jefferson's Ocean or other shelf turd
    49. When you go to a bar, instead of drinking an Old Fashion with Rittenhouse, you pay at least double to have it made with a “good bourbon”. Double tater points for making a face of disapproval when learning the House Old Fashion is made with Rye and make a statement along the lines of, “I don’t like Rye”
    50. You print out custom labels for your personal blend bottles. Double tater points for seeking out anybody’s personal blend on secondary market
    51. You believe all barrel picks are superior to standard bottle expression
    52. You like a whiskey solely based on the fact that it is so smoooth
    53. If you insist that Bourbon can only be produced in Kentucky
    54. Argue that the Lincoln county process prohibits Jack Daniels from being Bourbon.
    55. If you pay more or assume an autograph on bottle increases its secondary market value
    56. You purchase a crappy Canadian whiskey because you found out the TTB pulled the label and it is now a limited-edition whiskey
    57. You call every liquor store in a 100 mile radius asking if they have any Pappy
    58. You prepay thousands of dollars upfront for a barrel of whiskey from any new distillery
    59. Hype up any barrel pick you bought bottles of only later to flip a bottle on secondary
    60. Purchase any spirit named after, inspired by or created for any celebrity, living or dead, including any actors, sports stars, or musical artist/group
    61. Post pictures on social media while inside a liquor store on the whiskey aisle and ask ‘what should I buy?’

    65. Posting eulogy pictures with sympathy notes of finished bottles on social media
    66. Purchase a bottle of whiskey you never intend to open because of bottle packaging
    67. Make a suggestion or inspire a reason to be on this list
    68. Your favorite whiskey brand is Willett Family Estate over 10 years because of the consistent taste profile.
    69. Participate or run a virtual blind tasting
    70. If a whiskey brand, you resort to selling bottles of infinity barrell
    71. You will not open a first bottle of whiskey until you have acquired a second bottle of the same
    72. You obtain vanity license plates with the name of any whiskey brand
    73. You are part of a whiskey club that enters your private barrel pick into any type of whiskey award/score
    74. Selling a new project or barrel pick at first for charity so later that sold price can be used as baseline for future flips.
    75. Camp out for any J. Mattingly/Bourbon 30 release.
    76. You have an irrational fear of missing out by thinking this ‘limited’ special release or that single barrel pick is the ONE.
    77. Have a personal collection of whiskey hang tags.
    78. Refer to whiskey as ‘juice’
    79. If you participate in Facebook Whiskey Court groups and think they wield any actual power. Double tater points if you are admin of said groups.
    80. You try to sell 'poor man's pappy' online. Double tater points if you self wax and label the bottles.
    81. If you maintain a list of 80 reasons of why folks are whiskey taters

Anybody try Bardstown yet? Could be my new jam. Happened to go into a new liquor store today and they had a tasting. The lower end was good, but the Discovery is fantastic! Little pricey at $130, but I liked it. Talked with the regional sales manager and they just got their Maryland license yesterday. 121 proof and very smooth.

There thing is that they publish their mashbill on the side of the bottle and Are big on transparency unlike some distillers (looking at you Buffalo Trace).

Evidently, they supply for Jefferson, Kentucky Owl, Hight West, and a bunch of others.

    Wow! Looks promising...

California is one of the states they sell in so be on the lookout.

    #3950 4 years ago
    Quoted from Fulltilt:

Discovery and The Prisoner. I voted up The Prisoner.
The Discovery was nice, but has a "harsh" side when compared to the Prisoner. The 100 proof is just more drinkable IMO. Both are very nice but pricey.

They did not have the Prisoner today but is did get to try the Fusion. I hear that the Prisoner is good. I prefer a stronger bourbon so the Discovery fits my flavor profile nicely.

Nice pickup! I have not had that release but they have been killing it. If I was limited to only one brand of bourbon it would be Bookers. Been drinking it now going on 22 years.

    #4009 4 years ago
    Quoted from Green-Machine:

Big bookers fan too. Hard to find here for some reason. I’m about to finish 2019-4. I thought it was phenomenal. 2019-2 is next to open

Country Ham is my favorite. Bookers is pretty plentiful here so if you need any let me know.

It is 78 degrees here in MD right now but will drop to the 50's for the weekend. I just poured 4 fingers of Henry McKenna BiB that I got from TKDalumni during Secret Santa and getting ready to clean the grill. The McKenna is delightful! Have a good weekend, all!

    Awesome man! Cheers

Time to pour another 4 fingers. I am involved in a highly competitive game of yard darts with my daughter. No, I am not making this up.

Hope all of you guys are doing ok with everything going on and are safe. Having a pretty good week all things considered so decided it is time for a drink. Didn’t have all the right materials but here is my take on a different Manhattan. 4 fingers of 4 Roses, Dry Vermouth (wish I had sweet, but whatever), Aztec Chocolate bitters, and an ice ball. My good glasses and shaker are still in a box so I just rolled it around for a bit between 2 cups. It is legit!

Doing good here! Thanks for the gesture... enjoy the Manhattan

Glad you are doing ok, @green-machine. You need to go down to the Pine Club and get a steak to go. Maybe you can get a couple of to-go cups from the Century Bar as well. Dayton is one of my favorite places I come for work.

    #4243 4 years ago
    Quoted from Green-Machine:

Ahhh you know the Pine Club! Had some Pappy at Century 3 weeks ago. They just finished remodeling. Looks nice and New bathrooms thank goodness

Dude, I had a charge account there for about 10 years. Last time I was out there they finally had closed it out so I had to run across the street to the gas station to hit the ATM. Can’t wait to check out the Century since it got redone. I am no longer covering Air Force but I am sure I can find a way to get back out there. At my peak I was out there 2-3 times a month. Will hit you up when I am back out there.

    #4245 4 years ago
    Quoted from Green-Machine:

I’ve made the walk to the ATM
You should know Dayton well as much as you’ve been here. Century has a VIP bar now for serious bourbon drinkers. Nice to get in on VIP to avoid the crowds

Thanks for the tip about the VIP bar. I am sure my buddy BJ is a member there.

Gents, a toast to your health! I wish you safety during these interesting times.

I figured I would share this with you as you may get a kick out of it. I am definitely drinking to this tonight. After buying this house 2 years ago and a major renovation, we are finally making process in getting the dock redone so I can get my boat out of dry dock. These pics are from the other day. They are tearing down my dock, dredging, and rebuilding it bigger and in a different location so that I can get my boat in. We drove the first two new pylons today, so I am super excited. We should be done with the whole thing next week.

    #4310 4 years ago
    Quoted from Green-Machine:

I totally would but I need to get zoom and my wife is a little snappy tonight so I know I’m going get some grief in some form for talking out loud. Yes, I can’t make a noise tonight

I understand. Zoom is easy to get but I understand about wives sleeping gently. I am in the basement so if not tonight, maybe another night. Who ever came up with the idea is a genious. I am having beverages for a while if anybody wants to join. If not, let’s pick a time where we can get the crew.

    #4321 4 years ago

Maybe we can all do a Kentucky Owl tasting then when the time is right.

Sounds like I missed a good time. Had family game night with folks all over the place tonight. I am up for tomorrow night 7 or after if anybody is up. Between my fiesta of destruction tomorrow during the day, WrestleMania tomorrow night, and pinball, I will be looking to have some tasty beverages.

    #4441 4 years ago

Looks like you boys tied one on last night! Tonight will be my night.

Now that I got the dock in, it is time to clean up the shoreline. The previous home owners made questionable decisions in their landscape choices. They cut down tress but left stumps, put yuccas and shrubs around without rhyme or reason, and even used bricks as rip rap. All of it is going today. I just counted that I have 10 stumps, 8 bushes, 2 6x6s, and 3 logs that I am going to cut up and haul out today. Going to be hard due to the terrain but oh so worth it. Chainsaws are ready, stump puller that I made is ready, and I just got my ax sharpened. It is going to be a good day!

Look forward to some good bourbon tonight!

Anybody up for a Zoom tasting tomorrow night (Thursday), say 9PM EDT? I want to give some love to my Kentucky Owl bottle as I was a little toasty when I tried it the other night. If so, I will post a Zoom link tomorrow

    #4730 4 years ago

It doesn't have to be Kentucky Owl. By the time I cracked it open on the other zoom I was a little loose so I don't think I gave it a fair shake. I know you guys are a bunch of BT folks but I can dig something up.

    #4732 4 years ago

We shall see how the KO tastes tomorrow night

    #4805 4 years ago

Come on, bowz I thought you would be up with the lark like me @whysnow. Surprisingly, felt pretty good this AM. It was good to meet you, Bill, and Hilton, and to drink with Scott again. All of you are great guys. You re always welcome out here if you make it out this way.

Have not seen the neighbor yet but we are getting close on crabs. The season officially opened on 4/1 but the crabbers wait about 2-3 weeks until the water temperature rises. I would assume that we will see some boats out this weekend.

    #4808 4 years ago

I will have to pick up a bottle when I go out. I will check to see if the Mic Check is still available and if so, will let folks know. Just found out school here are closed to at least May 15, so I have that going for me

    #4873 4 years ago

No dice on the Mic Drop. Guy said he sold the rest of it about 2 weeks ago. I did pick up the Willet and a nice Makers store pick.

Sadly, could not go into the store. They had a table by the door and you tell them what you want and they bring it to you. Was limited by what I could see and get them to look up. Anybody else have this setup?

I approve of this most vigorously! We are rapidly getting to margarita weather.

    #4906 4 years ago
    Quoted from Whysnow:

I prefer multiple smaller pours. I also like to stay within a distiller for the evening (all Buffalo Trace, or all heavenhill, or all XXXXX) as I think it is fun to compare and develop my taste to see what I like.
It then makes it fun to hunt based on those taste profiles I like.
For example, I find I tend to like 8-15 year old bourbon, w 12 being a sweet spot in many cases.
I dont like the high proof stuff as much as many do. It is good but the hug can be too long for me, so I tend to focus on 90-105 proof.
I dont like the cheery, sherry, etc... finished stuff in most cases. Again, a nice change but I prefer the good old classic.
When I find a mash bill I like, then it is fun to hunt out those other similar ones and really dig in to see how stuff is different.
I really enjoy doing a vertical.
One of my favorite experiences was going to a bar (before this was really so popular) and we did a vertical of Pappy. 1.5oz pour of the 10, 12, 15, 20, and 23, and Saz. Line up all up and sip to see what you liked best
That said, everyone has different methods and also different pallets so to me it can be really fun to learn what others enjoy.

I appreciate you sharing this strategy the other night. You explained it very nicely.

    #4908 4 years ago

It's the only way I do most things. Sadly, having to triage that customer issue I was telling you guys about the other night or I would be having one now with you. What did you pour?

    #4910 4 years ago

How do you like that? The store did not have it yesterday when I was there.

    #4947 4 years ago

He pours like I do. That is not necessarily a good thing.

    #4987 4 years ago

You will have to join us for one of our Bourbon zooms DeadFlip

    #4990 4 years ago
    Quoted from PinDeLaPin:

When is our nxt zoom meeting Matt?

When do people want to get together? I am not good on Friday but can any other time.

The power is out to my only my house right now. We are on the generator for now, but it is estimated that the power will be back on before 9. Let’s see if that is the case. If so, I will send out one for tonight if anybody wants to hop on. Just have to play it by ear.

    #4993 4 years ago

So, just as I posted my last one the power company showed up. It’s raining out here so vines on the fuse on my transformer caused a short. He is going to rip down the vines and replace the fuse. 3rd one of the night he said. All of this is a long way around the horn that if people want to hop on a zoom around 930 EDT time tonight I am down. Got to take care of some family stuff before.

Of course, we can also pick another night. I have already had a good pour and it is draft night...

    #4997 4 years ago

    Quoted from bowz:

When is the next zoom call? Can't wait to drink way too much and be useless the next day.

I mean, we could hop on now if you want. Some people were saying Saturday night. Any thoughts?

    #5011 4 years ago

Concur with Whysnow on the 4 Roses. Regular Maker's Mark is fairly safe as well, and then you can spiral out from there. Similar to Scotch, there are different flavor profiles for bourbon. Do you like strong drinks or mild? Do you like a sweeter flavor? Is the nose important to you? Share some of the things that you like and I am sure that folks can give you some great recommendations.

    #5014 4 years ago

For your milder bourbons, you might look at Wild Turkey, Weller, Jefferson's Ocean, High West, and Blanton's, amongst others. Sounds like you could be a fan of the wheat mash bill, which tend to be milder and sweeter than some of the other types.

All this being said, I might need a drink tonight. If so, I will see if anybody wants to hop on.

Ok, just got off and cracked open the Barrel. Still trying to process it. I get hints of orange and vanilla. Not bad at all, just not what I expected.

We have coastal flooding right now. As you can see, my neighbors’ docks are underwater or close to it. We got ours built about a foot and a half taller so no worries here. 3rd time in two weeks we have had flooding like this.

Hanging with the fam right now but let me see what happens here in a bit.

    #5284 3 years ago

I have finally stopped sneezing. That was a lot of fun last night gents. Have a great day!

    #5289 3 years ago

Yep, feel great this am. Just hit Costco and Home Depot. One more stop and then back home. Have only sneezed 82 times this am. Down pollen.

    #5293 3 years ago

Hey John, take you a big squeeze of honey from your plastic honey bear and you will feel like a champion. The glucose will perk you right up. If I tie one on I hit the honey before I go to bed and it definitely helps with the hangover.

    #5297 3 years ago

I could be up for a casual zoom later tonight. Got to be good since I have calls starting at 7 tomorrow but it is always fun to hang with you guys.

Who’s drinking margaritas tomorrow in honor of Cinco de Mayo? Getting ready to prep my semi-famous carne asada flank steak for tomorrow night. It makes hellacious tacos and bowls.

    #5315 3 years ago

    How does it taste, Don?

    #5319 3 years ago
    Quoted from Fulltilt:

Very!! Smooth with a nice rye finish. More refined than say Boss Hog. (:
Boss Hog says “who’s your daddy!”

Very nice! I will be on the look out for it. Enjoy,

    Quoted from Green-Machine:

Came across this today. Wasn’t going to shell out that much lettuce though.
    [quoted image]

I dont think that is too horrible for that from what I have seen. What the heck is Hammerhead to the left of it?

    #5335 3 years ago

Never mind on the Hammerhead. Looks to be Czech whisky that is either not horrible or will kill you. Seems that only 300 bottle made it to the US, but it is probably not worth it.

    #5339 3 years ago

I wonder if I could spill Hammerhead on my hot tub and reenact Hot Tub Time Machine. Don't have any Chernobly handy

No bourbon for me tonight guys. We are all in on tequila for Cinco de Mayo! Getting ready to flame up some tequila garlic flank steak to make some kick ass tacos. Going to throw some corn on the grill tonight as well.

Have already poured my first margarita and started with about 2 fingers of tequila. I am sure it will crank up from here. As long as I don’t try to wear the Infinity Gauntlet I should be in good shape!

Thanks Bill! Sadly, the crab season is not good yet due to the cold weather. Here is an article that I was reading today talking about the season. Soon though!

Here you go Bill. Pictures are not great but we were too hungry to stage an instagram picture. Tequila lime flank steak, home made quac, forensic, pocketed onions, and all the fixings. 3 margaritas in and feeling leveled out. Could be up for a casual zoom hang out later tonight.

Looks like a new EH Taylor BiB 18 YO will be dropping soon with a retail of $70. I bet this will be a hot ticket.

    Anybody hanging out tonight?

    #5408 3 years ago

Picked up two supposedly good bottles today and look forward to checking them out. I know Chisox has great things to say about the RR.

Should we do a zoom tasting tomorrow night? I know Green-Machine had some new things to try.

I can set it up for tomorrow night but I am better later, say 9 Or 930 EDT. Does that work?

    #5424 3 years ago
    Quoted from Chisox:

Sounds good. I can set it up too if something comes up with Matt. You know if like Trump or Pence call him and he needs to Zoom with the war room.

You are a good man, @chisox. They only sent Marine 1 to get me once this week, so things are calming down a little . Let me make sure that I can get the kitchen pass since it is Mother’s Day weekend.

    #5440 3 years ago
    Quoted from djreddog:

I mix it up. Probably straight 75% of the time. And yes, this "bourbon crush" is a nice spin off from the classic orange crush.

We are definitely getting into crush season. Are crushes a regional thing? I know they are big in the DELMARVA area but don't know if I have really seen them in other places.

    #5449 3 years ago

Yeah, we are going to be in the low 30’s tonight. Glad I got the pool opened this week

Just found an article about Crushes. It appears that they did start in this area. You can get the, in all flavors. They are a good summertime drink. https://punchdrink.com/articles/rise-of-orange-crush-cocktail-recipe-and-history-maryland/

Anybody like Painkillers? They are dangerous and delicious We have a Pusser’s here in town and this is a pretty common thing to see folks drinking around here. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Painkiller_(cocktail)

    #5454 3 years ago
    Quoted from Chisox:

I can’t decide who’s house I’m going to show up to unannounced with suitcase first, tkdalumni or dblm. I’ll be the old guy with the afro, please don’t shoot.

You are welcome anytime! Although, I think we need to crash Fulltilt place.

    #5466 3 years ago

What time did we want to hop on? 9 EDT?

Look forward to seeing everybody. New faces are welcome as well! I will post a zoom link about an hour or so before the event.

    #5471 3 years ago

Here is the Zoom link for 9 PM EDT tonight. All are welcome! Look forward to seeing everybody and meeting new folks.
