So for our Saturday night family night (or forced family fun as my kids call it lol) we watched old home movies of my kids from 2000-2005. I’m a fucking mess now haha. It’s crazy watching them as newborns and toddlers while one is drinking wine with you and the other is 6’3” 215. I guess I’m old AF as they say. George T Stagg please take me away...cheers!

Is it ok to switch from different brands in one night or do most prefer to stick to just one bottle if having more than one glass? Just curious what you all do and think about it. I have done both at times but think it might be best to stick to one kind but not entirely sure. I feel if I switch I don’t get the true taste of a glass in the bottle.

    Quoted from ZAuxier:

So, I can't really say that I'm as IN to bourbon as many of the folks on this thread - but wondering what the consensus is on this stuff? Did a blind taste test against one of my baselines, Elijah Craig, and I honestly think I like the Craig better?[quoted image]

I have that one and EJ, personally I liked EJ better.

I prefer multiple smaller pours. I also like to stay within a distiller for the evening (all Buffalo Trace, or all heavenhill, or all XXXXX) as I think it is fun to compare and develop my taste to see what I like.

It then makes it fun to hunt based on those taste profiles I like.

For example, I find I tend to like 8-15 year old bourbon, w 12 being a sweet spot in many cases.
I dont like the high proof stuff as much as many do. It is good but the hug can be too long for me, so I tend to focus on 90-105 proof.
I dont like the cheery, sherry, etc... finished stuff in most cases. Again, a nice change but I prefer the good old classic.
When I find a mash bill I like, then it is fun to hunt out those other similar ones and really dig in to see how stuff is different.

I really enjoy doing a vertical.

One of my favorite experiences was going to a bar (before this was really so popular) and we did a vertical of Pappy. 1.5oz pour of the 10, 12, 15, 20, and 23, and Saz. Line up all up and sip to see what you liked best

That said, everyone has different methods and also different pallets so to me it can be really fun to learn what others enjoy.

I appreciate you sharing this strategy the other night. You explained it very nicely.

It's the only way I do most things. Sadly, having to triage that customer issue I was telling you guys about the other night or I would be having one now with you. What did you pour?

I went with the 8yr Bakers

I wasn't super impressed with it but after a few drinks it's kind of growing on me. I will definitely say it's much better than the old bakers that crap was nasty. I will say after that sample of the Bakers 13 Chisox sent me I will definitely be keeping an eye out for it.

I was going to rent one but only one to rent in my area is the power mate dolly. The Escalera seems easy to use but I’m not up for buying it. I just won’t use it enough to justify the cost

I think it’s the weakest link in the Wild Turkey lineup. It’s decent but for me the Russell’s Single Barrel, KY Spirit, Rare Breed etc are way better.

Sorry. Post did not go through. Russells 10 is solid neat. Not really robust enough on the rocks or in an old fashioned. Underrated.

    Quoted from Green-Machine:

Yeah, I rented one before I bought an escalera. I moved a fridge, some pins, and some other furniture. It worked, but it's a totally different mechanism compared to escalera. Watch a video of one in action. Until you figure out what you're doing, it's very dangerous. The balance point shifts such that your load could easily topple down the stairs if you don't maintain the balance. It wasn't so bad with the pins because you can wrestle it back to a balanced position when you mess up, but bigger items like a fridge, watch out.

Thanks for info. I’m going to rent the power mate m-1 to move my pins up steps. It’s my only choice because there are no Escalera to rent in my area. I agree that the Escalera looks more user friendly

I was running low on my favorite go to bourbon, Woodinville whisky company port cask finished bourbon so I stopped by at the distillery to get a bottle. To help out fight the virus they have pivoted to also manufacture hand sanitizer which they donate for free to health and government organizations on the frontline of this crisis. When you bought a bottle, they gave a bottle of the hand sanitizer also. Talk about win win, love this company and their bourbon

I'm sure we can find a way to get you a bottle. Unfortunately I've not been able to find it anywhere else except at the distillery, where they sell at MSRP which for this is $70 so not cheap...

    Manly pour challenge.

Old Forester is very good. It’s not GTS though.

Yeah there is obviously no comparison between the 2 but I still think that particular barrel pick is outstanding on the OF single barrel.

Definitely want to try that one. I tried their regular one and it was good, but I find I'm usually a big fan of whiskey that's finished in port casks.

No bourbon today for me. My buddy stopped by yesterday to give me a hand with my bowler project and nxt thing I know we killed half a bottle and didn't get shit done. So only a few beers today and I got a ton of shit done. Anyone else see a correlation going on here?
