Rumor is that the ancient ancient age 10 star is young Blantons. Anyone able to confirm or deny? It’s my go to mixer besides VOB.

Same mashbill so essentially yes. I haven’t had Ancient Ancient in ages (hilarious, I know) and have never done a side by side or a blind.

    #4353 4 years ago

The now discontinued Ancient Ancient Age wasn't too bad as I remember...

I find that Benchmark, on the other hand, which is essentially younger Buffalo Trace/Eagle Rare, is swill compared to the latter two.

    Makes decent enough whiskey-cokes though.

    #4354 4 years ago

We haven't had a swillie sighting in a while. Has anyone heard from him?

My local shop had 12 bottles of Antique sitting on the shelf today. That was nice to see

    #4359 4 years ago

I’m up for a Whiskey Wednesday. Gimme a few minutes.

    #4360 4 years ago

Alright, let’s do this. Stagg Jr. batch 12 - not quite hazmat but checking in at 132.3 proof, it’s got some bite. Delicious though, one of their best batches. Cheers.

4 Roses SiB was one of the first bourbons where it started to click with me how great whiskey can be. Between all the different mashbills available with all the single barrel store picks I could pretty much just drink 4R only and be a happy guy. 4 Roses SiB Kenwood Liquors pick OESQ 9yrs 11 mos.

So what is everyone stocking up on right now? I've been grabbing buffalo trace for $28 and 1792 for $25 @ sams lately. Gonna be drinking a bunch over the month of april it looks like. Theres only so much you can do when under stay at home orders.

    #4367 4 years ago

    Old Grandad 114 here

    #4368 4 years ago

I have got to try that one. Every time I see it I pass on it cuz there's something else I want to buy. I do have this bottle that I've had probably for about 8 years

I plan on killing a buffalo this evening, but fortunately there is another lurking around these parts to immediately take it's place.

The lower proof OG seems a little rough.. not sure about a almost vintage bottle though. The 114 is shockingly good. IMO

Now that I drink every day... I have to find a few cheaper budget daily drinkers. Open to suggestions but I have been drinking WT101 when I want a little spice and Larceny for my sweeter side!

    Cheers and stay healthy.

The regular plain jane 4 roses is pretty solid and can be had for like $17. Buffalo trace and 1792 can both be had for under $30 @ Sams club. Those should get you started and once you have a few you can branch out and try others and b4 you know it you too will have 143 bottles.

OGD 114 is great for $24.99. Old Forester Rye is great for $20 if you’re into ryes. You could do a lot worse than WT 101, my favorite sub $25 bottle.

Binny’s just released a ton of barrel picks this week so I stopped in. New Riff store pick, Four Roses Small Batch Select (finally!), and a Whistle Pig 12 year store pick finished in Jamaican rum casks. These and the Dusty Turkey I picked up is all I’ve bought in a month.

Some good recommendations from both of you. I have seen the OGD - will give it a try. 1792 as well. That said the weekend is coming so time to break out the better stuff. I do like EHT small batch and FR select.

    #4380 4 years ago

I can see you are definitely bored

Before I go lugging this thing from the garage to around back in the basement door I wanted some opinions. I picked this super cool really old cupboard/cabinet thing up from an old lady 3 weeks ago. It was really old and musty smelling so it's been airing out in the garage but is now smelling better. My cabinet that's downstairs that I just got stocked up isn't really big enough to hold anymore bottles and the other one is packed also. It is a big pain in the ass to swap them out but wtf there isn't a whole lot else to do right now so.... What do you guys think swap em out or stick with what I got and quit bitching? 1st pick is the current one i'm using 2nd pic is new cabinet.

I agree with fulltilt it is a bit more manly but I like the both. Go with the one that holds more whiskey.
And yes I was bored last night

I guess I need to take measurements and see if it will hold more before I even mess with moving it because it is pretty heavy. It is a pretty cool piece though best part is the old lady gave it to me for free and even still had the original skeleton key for the locks in it.

Free is great. You could make an old fashioned version of janet jackson key earring with the skeleton key. You’ll never lose the key to your liquor cabinet

Anybody want to hop on a Zoom Saturday night? It is the first night of Wrestlemania (judge me all you want) so I will be drinking and playing some pinball. If so, I will post a link.
