So this Bakers thing got me thinking we could do some sort of sample swap here. Nice way to try different whiskeys without having to pay for a whole bottle. 2 oz would be ideal. Anybody else interested?

It's a good idea but hard to find something to ship the sample in. Just ask Fulltilt about what his sample showed up in a month or 2 ago

    #3903 4 years ago

Just got back from California and picked these up. Can't get Woodinville around here, so thought I would give that one a shot. The 1792, well, it is a Full Proof store pick--need I say more? Don't know anything about the Kentucky Best, other than it seems to be a Trader Joe's exclusive (https://www.traderjoes.com/FearlessFlyer/Article/5077). But for $12, it was almost a no-brainer. Worse comes to worst, it can get mixed with something (such as another bourbon).

What did you think of the Woodinville? I'm a huge fan of it and have been adding bottles of it to my bunker.

Get that container in the mail to my house pronto! I've never had that any GTS and need some asap

    #3911 4 years ago

I need to do a GTS bottle chug one of these days. Put it on the bourbon bucket list. Which is:

    1. Get a split label Wild Turkey 12 yr from the early 90s
    2. Distillery tours esp. Wild Turkey and 4 Roses
    3. Get a bottle of 4 Roses 50th Anniversary Al Young
    4. Get a couple bottles of King of Kentucky (2019 in particular)
    5. Michters 20 yr.
    6. Bottle chug GTS

I would be up to try this. I have limited access to rare stuff but will share what I can.

    #3913 4 years ago

Okay if there's anybody in here in the Phoenix Arizona area and you know where smoke wagon bourbon is available let me know. I have a friend who's flying out there tomorrow for a conference and he is going to be looking for it at a couple places but he has limited time so I would like to narrow it down.

Message me and let’s see if we can get you some

Celebrating whiskey Wednesday and new pin day. This pin, like the whiskey, is kicking my ass.

Also, sorry to the Bakers boys. I’m trying to get these samples out but haven’t gotten a chance to get to the post office.

    #3919 4 years ago

Not sure if anyone has tried this or not. A store owner at one of my shops was telling me about it and since I'm always looking for a reasonable priced everyday sipper I figured I would give it a shot. At $32 a bottle I figured it was worth a shot. It has gotten some really good reviews check this one out. https://whiskeyconsensus.com/early-times-bottled-in-bond-review/

Man those reviews are actually spot on for a change! This is some pretty damn good stuff. It is really smooth for 100 proof and has a really long finish that is quite tasty with very little burn. There isn't a whole lot of body to it but it is only a 4yr bourbon priced at $32 so don't go in with wild expectations. I do give it 2 enthusiastic thumbs up and if he has more i'm buying it tomorrow. If you are a fan of the single barrel Old Forester you will love this one. Give it a try if you can find it i'm sure you will be surprised by it.

I drink it neat. The smell is very impressive. The flavor profiles are nice. I found it smooth for 100 proof. It tastes young but if it had some age on it I think it would be a solid bourbon. It is a great bourbon for the price, hands down.

    #3929 4 years ago

I wasn't even shopping today, but when you get offered something you might as well pull the trigger!

Yeah that's pretty much exactly how I rated it as well. The fact that you got it for 25 bucks makes it even that much more enjoyable in my opinion. You have to have the solid everyday drinkers that you can go to that don't cost you a fortune. I break out the good stuff usually on the weekend and I use the lesser bottles to get me through the week and I'm always looking for a lesser priced bottle. All in all im very pleased with this bottle.

I agree! Next I might try with ice to see how it opens up.

    Yes, state ABC stores.
You might pickup some Everclear in case you get around that Co-19 case in Wake County.

    #3935 4 years ago

Not all stores are the same.
Store inventory I believe in NC is controlled by each county. Within each county distribution can vary. In the county I live in (Belford), there is one main store that has the best inventory. Others vary by populated area.

About a month ago, I hit 6 stores in Wake Co. (Raleigh area). I did not find and Weller’s, Stagg, Bookers, or Buffalo Trace products in general. I have been told stores get new allotments every two weeks. So the situation could have improved.

    Good luck.

Anybody try Bardstown yet? Could be my new jam. Happened to go into a new liquor store today and they had a tasting. The lower end was good, but the Discovery is fantastic! Little pricey at $130, but I liked it. Talked with the regional sales manager and they just got their Maryland license yesterday. 121 proof and very smooth.

There thing is that they publish their mashbill on the side of the bottle and Are big on transparency unlike some distillers (looking at you Buffalo Trace).

Evidently, they supply for Jefferson, Kentucky Owl, Hight West, and a bunch of others.

Discovery and The Prisoner. I voted up The Prisoner.
The Discovery was nice, but has a "harsh" side when compared to the Prisoner. The 100 proof is just more drinkable IMO. Both are very nice but pricey.

They did not have the Prisoner today but is did get to try the Fusion. I hear that the Prisoner is good. I prefer a stronger bourbon so the Discovery fits my flavor profile nicely.
