We are blended. 4 kids. They are all away with the other parents, so yeah we do enjoy times like this. Up next is pinball once we solve this damn case!

This machine was the best $75 I've ever spent. Had to spend 3 months bringing it back to life and break down and pay a tech $125 to get me over the last hump. This thing gets more play though any more than my 4 pins do. We are downstairs every night though spending quality family time together. Conveniently enough thats where all my bourbon is also

We did a barrel pick of Buffalo Trace with our arcade bar. Took several local bourbon advocates and this was a solid pick. Have around 5 cases left. I can ship for $30 a bottle plus shipping.

I have batch 9..which one the battle?

Me and the wife both picked batch 12. 9 is a very close second place. Both punch WAY above their price point,50.00$ if you can find them around here.

Shit.... If you found that bottle for only $50 you should have bought all they had. It's $70 minimum around these parts after the wonderful price increases as of lately

Reminder that you need to ship out your SSanta gift by this Friday. no deadbeats here. Doing so will ensure the bourbon gods forever prevent you from big scores!

Also, even if not opening till the actual holiday, please post up that you received it so your santa knows (lots of porch pirates out there)

    #2609 4 years ago

I did receive mine. I did not open it yet. Will post pics as soon as I do.

Im telling you all this single barrel OF is amazingly good shit. Just snagged another bottle of the store pick from one of my shops. If you haven't tried it yet I highly suggest you do it's become my go-to bottle here the last couple weeks.

I wish there was an "I hate you but I'm so happy for you at the same time" post voting thing rather than just the simple up or down vote. Maybe it would be middle finger but the persons hand would have a smiley face on it or something. I'm just super jelly.

It appears I missed out on anything rare at any price within 2x-3x of MSRP again this year. It's ok. Plenty of Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star and Very Old Bartons to keep my company...

    Cheers!

That 10yr RYE looks $10-15 higher than I've been seeing over in Milwaukee area.

    #2627 4 years ago

I've enjoyed the left on quite a few occasions, the middle once, and the right a few times at tastings/bottle shares.

For the $, the left isn't bad; the middle wasn't my cup of tea; and the right is too rich for my blood, considering what it is, (MGP juice, no different than the Smooth Ambler that used to sell for $45 a few years back...) and was just "ok" to my palette.

That said, Michter's US-1 is pretty good for the money ($45), is a maple syrup bomb, punches above it's weight class and hold's its own against much costlier competitors, and is very similar to the WP10.

Unless it's a THH or a Saz18, I'm out of my comfort zone spending much more than $40 for ANY rye. YMMV.

Michter's US-1 is great stuff. I'm afraid to open my bottle as the last one disappeared quite quickly and it took me awhile to find another although I think that I may have a good steady source for that one now.

Well well well.... Secret Santa has graced his presence upon me today. I must say the care in packaging is second to none. I have heard very good things about this bottle and could hardly wait to try it. Glass is full bottoms up. Thank you secret santa! Most importantly thank you Whysnow for orchestrating this whole event.

Fred Minnick, the editor-in-chief of Bourbon+ Magazine, agrees. See the final episode of Pappy Van Winkle vs The Field where he blind tastes 23 year old Pappy against 5 other bourbons and Woodinville almost beats it. It's a long video, the first taste is just before 11 minute mark, 2nd taste around 1h:6m and he finally finds out that it's the woodinville one at around 1h:34m mark. Overall, quite an entertaining video albeit way way too long to watch (unless you have time to burn, and can join him in his blind tasting to compare notes)

Went back and grabbed a bottle of the OF SiB store pick after seeing PinDeLaPin enjoyed his store pick so much. I will start by saying that I enjoy most of the Old Forester offerings. This single is very good. I like strong oak and vanilla, so this one is hitting me in all the right spots. I talked with the manager, who was one of the three from the store that went on the barrel pick. He let me taste before I bought, and we tasted a few other singles from other brands along side it. He was also super excited to tell me that they just found out they are doing a store pick single barrel of Eagle Rare next year.

I was going to wait until the weekend to try my secret Santa gift, but caved in encouraged by all the delicious posts today. In my wildest dreams I was hoping to get something that's not available here, and boy did the secret Santa deliver. I didn't even know Wisconsin had bourbon!

    Quick initial thoughts on this;
Nose has nice chocolaty, creme brulee and toffee notes. The taste is soft spice and dried fruit mixed with nice caramel undertones and the burn is mellow and long. In short, delicious

Thank you secret Santa, you are the man!
Thank you Whysnow also for organizing, this was really great and now I have an awesome bourbon for the holidays (if I can control myself, it may last that long)

I see that stuff quite a bit. I just had some skanky Rye once upon a time and I think it's just tainted my palate. One of these days I need to try it again who knows maybe I'll like it.

On another note I just rolled out of one of my spots a happy guy. Haven't seen any of this in a few months and I needed another bottle.

Do you have a full time job hunting bourbon? I’ve never seen so many finds from one person!
There are lines here in the Dayton area for good bourbon. You literally have to go on delivery day an hour before they put on the shelf to get anything from rare to Allocated

Stagg Junior is hard to find at a whiskey bar around here

Agreed, accept here in PA you have to be online one day a month and you have 30 seconds to get something or your out of luck.

Being a professional bourbon Hunter would be one hell of a full-time job to have it's a jungle out there. I have found it is paying dividends to make good friends with the store owners and go to the smaller places and ask them if they have the ability to order things. You will be surprised at the results you get just being courteous and asking questions. But a lot of the times it's just blind luck walking into a place and they have one or two of something on the shelf that you want.

I don't really know how you guys deal with that whole system of getting alcohol. It's just completely foreign to me to think that you just can't walk into any store and buy what you want. Here in St Louis you can get booze wherever the hell you want and our drinking fountains even pump out liquor as well it's so plentiful.
