That bottle of MWND was given to me,I can not comment on its value proposition. Does every act and scene have the same recipe and age?
I am a BIG proponent of “poor mans pappy”,if there is a work around for MWND,then go for it....

My comment wasn't directed at you, or anyone else for that matter... Just a tip for people who aren't psyched about pulling the trigger on an expensive bottle of a variety of whiskey they may not like. Or for those who like it, and can't find a bottle. (It's been unusually abundantly available in my AO for $99 the last few weeks, and I've not plucked one yet. Nor probably will I.)
Just an alternative to the new, crazy prices of this stuff. (Even when it was $69 a short while ago, I was hard pressed to grab more than a bottle a year.) It's polarizing stuff for sure amongst the whiskey aficionados in my circle. They either love it or hate it. But those that love it, agree that the cheaper, home grown variant, is superior to the vastly more expensive store bought variety.
I just read a pretty interesting article on the whiskey and bourbon craft that is become so popular here in Missouri and especially the St Louis. So I thought I would pass this read on to you guys and see what your thoughts were on this specific bill that they passed in the state legislature.
Don this applies to you because this guy makes your "Hood" whiskey

And the Tennessee Hills distillery in Jonesborough just announced their 1 Mil expansion project.
Whiskey business is good.

Very good news! Callahans TN whiskey is very good indeed.
For only the second time in my short bourbon career, I walked into a store that has Weller Antique, with a price tag of $95. It's super scarce in Delaware. So is $95 way over the top?

Thats crazy high! I paid $55 for a bottle of it about a month ago.

Well I feel it really is way too steep, but if you have never had a bottle for your collection I could see paying that once. Having enjoyed it in the past in the $20 range before things became so stupid, I could never pay half that price.
Quoted from New_England:Anyone have Weller or Blantons they would be willing to ship to Vermont?
I have tons of them in stock here in Delaware. Let me know what you need.
Quoted from PinDeLaPin:Pretty good score today at a couple of my stops. Ive never had the very okd barton but figured I would give it a whirl. I never leave weller on the shelf when I see it and barrel proof EC for $60 is also getting snagged.[quoted image]
Where did you find the EC? I haven’t seen the barrel proof around here recently but I’m looking for one.
Quoted from djreddog:It's super scarce in Delaware. So is $95 way over the top?
That's high. There are better bottles to spend you $100 on.
Quoted from tjprice222:Where did you find the EC? I haven’t seen the barrel proof around here recently but I’m looking for one.
I just bought a bottle for like 59 I think.
Quoted from Jgel:That's high. There are better bottles to spend you $100 on.
I passed. I was able to find McKenna finally for under $30.

Barrel proof EC is basically all gone around here I grabbed this one over in Illinois. He had 1 more bottle TJ if you want it shoot me a pm and I can grab it 2morrow if you want it.
Quoted from Chisox:Cheers guys! Happy Friday.[quoted image]
Been hunting for that 12 year but it seems to be super scarce along with the full proof.

I found one a couple months ago . I really don’t care for it personally, I mean it’s good, but the hype is over the top. I’ve been working on this bottle for about 3 years.

Man that sucks. You better send that bottle to me asap and I will dispose of it properly.
Quoted from Forum-ninja:Yesterday’s haul, the one in the middle is going to Kentucky with me tomorrow.Everyone at the meet up is bring something different to try. I am bringing widow Jane 10,little book3 and the applewood rye. It will be interesting what I come back with, going hunting after all the tours.[quoted image][quoted image]
Loved the Window Jane 10yr, new one we discovered early in the year and been through 3 bottles already.
Quoted from jathomp22:Wasn’t really looking for anything tonight but it was $50 off and I’ve seen it posted here a few times so figured I would give it a try. But not till the weekend.[quoted image]
Nice, I am curious to try the Owl as well since I followed this thread. finally saw it yesterday at Costco as never been able to find in AZ. Not a big rye fan, so really Need to decide to spend $178. Is this worth it everyone and priced right who have in on here? Thanks.
1CE857C7-2D27-49E6-9E43-E712A55BE908 (resized).jpegJust my opinion but for a sourced rye it's not worth $50. Not saying it's bad but it's probably an MGP rye. Stoli bought Kentucky Owl a while back and took the brand national. It has always been sourced and Stoli does not own a single bourbon distillery. It's an old revived label with a sourced product. To some sourced doesn't matter but to me I want to know what I am buying and where it came from. No reason to overpay for a well known brand in someone else's bottle. Especially with the crazy prices today. Kentucky Owl never used to be spotted in my area. Now I can pretty much find it in any shop I go into. If Costco has it that tells me all I need to know if the price justified the product since it seems to be readily available now.

The interesting thing is that is a 10yr rye which i've never seen. I had previously only seen it as an 11yr offering but now the other day I saw a 12yr offering for $230. While it probably is an MGP offering that doesn't negate the fact that it is a 10, 11 or 12yr offering. Is it worth the high price, not to me but I have no problem paying the $120 for the bourbon cause it is fantastic. Seeing the prices continue to climb I would think before long that the run of the mill bourbons will be at a $50 price point.
Nowhere does Kentucky Owl disclose an statement that I'm aware of. Even so you can get a bottle of High West double rye for $35 which is 16 year MGP although a very small amount blended with their own 2 year old. There's better and cheaper rye's out there. For comparison I can get a Lagavulin 16 for under $100. Not a rye or a bourbon I know but a damn fine pour at a bargain price.Stoli is known for cheap grain neutral spirits and they sell alot of it. I expect this label to be widely available and very affordable within the next year. They didn't buy it to sell overpriced sourced spirits to the minority. They bought it to sell cheap bourbon to the masses going forward.

Age statement right on the front of the bottle. Now you are correct there is no age statement on their bourbon.

What was the verdict? I’ve heard good things about Driftless Glen.
All three are very tasty. Driftless Glen is unique in complexity. I’m a big fan of Driftless Glen. All are really solid Ryes in my opinion
Quoted from MK6PIN:Man, do I love dropping in on the bourbon thread!!! Polar opposite of most of the threads on here.[quoted image]
Ditto. Stress free

What were your results from this tasting?

In my opinion the Blanton’s came out on top. Eagle Rare and Kentucky Owl confiscated although tasting quite different were tie for second for me.

I think I've just acquired a taste for Blanton's... keep coming back to it....

Went from having a drink of Green Spot then to a drink of Blanton’s. It tasted like cinnamon candy!
BTW Love Asheville. Went mountain biking last year at DuPont. Some of the best trails I’ve ridden
