    Quoted from Whysnow:

Traveling from Bryson city to Chattanooga on Thursday. Anywhere worth stopping (either distillery, liquor store, or pinball) along the way?
Also, we still have room to take home a game if anyone has anything for sale? Rare, oddballs, or classics for reasonable prices all have my interest

Not pinball or bourbon but from Bryson City, hope you made it up to lookout at Clingman's Dome. What a great view of the Smokey's.

I've never been to the Chattanooga Pinball Museum but maybe it's better kept than the Asheville.

Go eat some Thai by the river walk and aquarium. Good stuff. If you tell Em hot please.

    #2003 4 years ago

Been a while since i've seen or had any of this but at only $44 for a barrel strength 7yr bourbon I couldn't pass on it.

Yeah did lots of great hiking the past four days. Charlie’s bunion and yellow mountain were both great.

Side note, Chattanooga liquor stores have a WAY better selection and prices.

Picked up a Pappy 15yr. today at retail $119.00. Also got a Booker's Country Ham over the weekend. Should have the Pappy's in hand in a few days being shipped to the store.

Damn thats a hell of a score, what part of the country you in?

I'm in FL. I haven't stopped smiling all day. ABC which is a chain in FL. They may have others stores elsewhere not sure. They started a rewards "vault" This was the 1st time it was opened. They have a point structure system Over 5000 for the year and you get invited to shop the vault whenever they get it stocked for hard to get bottles. I'm told maybe 3 times a year. Basically for every Dollar spent you get 5 points. These days it's not hard to spend 1k on bourbon and scotch over a year. They had pappy 20 but it was already gone by the time I logged in about 5 minutes after the email. They had a bunch of stuff but you are only allowed 1 bottle so I figured the Pappy's was the best value if I ever wanted to trade it. Probably will never open it. Afraid I will never get another one. They had all the Antique collection releases, Stag, Booker's 30th anniversary. All the Wellers including some I never knew existed. All the Michters special releases. All the Trace brands in Private offerings of some kind as well. A bunch of other special releases as well that I can't remember. I saw what I wanted and wasted no time checking out.

Let me know how that Country Ham is please. I almost bought one tonight but decided to hear how it is first. The last two releases have just been ok IMO.

    #2009 4 years ago

I haven't opened it yet. I've seen alot of good talk on this one though. People are comparing it to last year's and it's a huge improvement over the first 2 this year. There's a side by side tasting on youtube with the 1st 2 from this year.

    Open it and drink it!
Life is short, you could die today, just Fing drink it!

    #2012 4 years ago

At some point I may open it up. I got lucky getting it at msrp. Truth be told I never had a desire for it because I never tasted it.I have this bad habit of actually drinking what I buy. I got it to possibly trade at some point for stuff I can never find on the shelf. If a collector comes along and wants it bad enough I would possibly make a deal. I'm actually kicking myself a little because I could have gotten something I wanted to drink. Hell I may get a 2 litre of Coke and mix it.lol

What do you line to drink but can’t find local? I will do a trade and then drink it.
Serious. Lmk. I have done lots of trades for burbs in the past

    Limited Releases mainly.

If you don't have this bottle I suggest you get one this stuff is fantastic. I find myself reaching for this bottle first a lot of times.

Moving on down the damn I'm glad this week is over trail. Ive had this bottle for about 10 years and I can definitely say it tastes different than the current "Special Reserve" and better.

If I could upvote that more...

I was a little worried for a while there as it started to get a little scarce in these parts, and figured the age statement would go “poof”, but it seems like it’s back everywhere in quantity like it was a few years ago.

True story: this was one of the first non Jack/Jim/etc. bourbons I fell in love with about 20 years ago. And the honeymoon still isn’t over, haha.

    Cheers!

So okay it is only Jim Beam, but it is my first taste of the stuff. I love the Budweiser Copper Lager which is aged with Jim Beam barrel staves, so thought I would give the bourbon a try and it is pretty tasty if you ask me...I think I just love bourbon period.

Nothing like bourbon hunting at 9:00 AM. I felt like such an alcoholic being in a liquor store that early lol.

Has anybody ever been to Canon in Seattle? One of the top ten bars in the world

I did not know about this heaven on earth before reading about it in this thread (thank you pinside and @DBLM). Had a pleasure of checking this place out today, the line was long before the place even opened but what an experience. Tasty cocktails, excellent food, impeccable service and 200 pages of rare spirits to choose from. If you ever visit Seattle, this is the place to check out. We'll be back to enjoy this gem, and so should you.

Seems like a cool place with a ton of different bottles but i'm pretty sure I wouldn't do well there.
Bartender: What kind of crazy off the wall overpriced gimmicky smoking drink can we make you sir?
Me: Pappy 23 with 2 ice cubes hold the stupid ass fog I dont want that shit ruining my drink!
Bartender: Well sir this a very trendy sophisticated establishment.
Me: Well i'm none of those things so pour my @@@@ing drink and after I finish it get me a busch light.
Just something to be said for simplicity!

    #2035 4 years ago

I had the Pappy 23 there. Nice hunk of ice and a good pour. Very straightforward.

With that being said, you don’t go there to just get a drink over ice. Kind of like not getting a boat up on plane (screw car analogies, boat analogies are better). If you are not going to experiment and be adventurous, Canon is not the right place to go.

I agree. I can appreciate what they are doing just making a point that all things aren't for everyone.

This stuff is awesome. Not big on coming up with crazy elongated descriptions that most people dismiss anyways. Just gonna say it's extremely well balanced with a nice toasty almost cedary initial taste with a smooth light burn finish. Its just fantastic stuff that takes me to my happy place!

Ok Bourbon newb question. What do you home sippers use to make those nice ice balls? Seen a unit sold once but way crazy expensive for a taster like me. Just completes the look and experience. How do you chill your balls?

    #2039 4 years ago

It's just a two piece mold that you fill up with water and put in the freezer for an hour. I'm sure you can get them anywhere this one came in a Elijah Craig gift set last Christmas

I really like clear ice, it makes drinks look better and imho improves the enjoyment. YouTube is full of videos on how to make clear ice, but I splurged and bought this from Amazon. Makes 2 balls in one go, and they can be stored in the freezer.

This one just came out of the mold...I pour the whisky slowly to lesson the chance of the iceball cracking, this time it worked.

Really happy with what I found today. Picked up the Pact 5 for $159 and went to another store and they had the Pact 4 for $119. I already have a bottle of Pact 4 and it is a fantastic bourbon. Anybody else have any experience with these?

You guys have a favorite bang for the buck bourbon? So far I think it's these three for me. There are better of course but for around $24, $22, $27 (left to right) these just seem like such a good deal and are all pretty good.

Woodford Is hard to beat for the price. My go to is Makers, and Four Roses definitely is great bang for the buck.
