Quoted from TKDalumni:Not a Bourbon, but any thoughts on this 12yr Yamasaki?[quoted image]
Yeah, I think that I should sip on some of mine.
Not great at tasting notes, but green fruit and a light bit of smoke... it's very nice stuff as is much of Japanese whisky. If only one could still easily find it.
IMG_6823 (resized).JPGI've not found the antique yet but Special Reserve is hard to beat with me. I hope to find some again soon.
Quoted from Jaeg:I've not found the antique yet but Special Reserve is hard to beat with me. I hope to find some again soon.
Antique is so difficult to find around here i've been on the prowl for it for a while to have 1 extra bottle. Special reserve is very good as well imo.
Here is what I was presented with today when I stopped in one of the local liquor stores....where do you begin????

So I guess you found a new favorite spot to frequent then huh?
Quoted from PinDeLaPin:So I guess you found a new favorite spot to frequent then huh?
Perhaps! Some of the pricing is high, but the amount of stuff they have is amazing.
Prices in that display case are ridiculous. Looks like OF 1920 is $57.99 which would be cheaper than I see around here
Quoted from djreddog:Here is what I was presented with today when I stopped in one of the local liquor stores....where do you begin????
Carefully. Booker’s > $110 is a warning sign. But then overhead is high to carry that kind of selection.
I can’t make out the prices, but my choices would be: Prices in parentheses are where they should cost.
John Bowman single barrel (Around $50)
Belle Meade Cask Strength ($65)
Knob Creek Cask Strength Rye ($60)
Wild Turkey Rare Breed ($40)
Old Forrester 1920 ($55)
Quoted from Fulltilt:Never seen the Blood Oath in the wild.
Been seeing Blood Oath quite a bit around here lately. Also seems like Eagle Rare is drying up around here too... The <$35 bottles are gone now it is the $45 bottles remaining. Sadly they are the same bottles just different stores.
Quoted from djreddog:Some of the pricing is high, but the amount of stuff they have is amazing.
That McKenna price is stupid.
Quoted from Jgel:That McKenna price is stupid.
Yeah and I was just bitching bout spending $48 on it the other day. $100 is just insulting.
Quoted from djreddog:I've not seen McKenna at any of the other 9 stores I visit.
I can bring a bottle on Saturday if you want to try it. I have found it (in the last 3 months) at Premier on Limestone Rd $40 and Swigg on 202 for $36. Total Wine on Namaans had it in bulk last year for $32.
No chance I'm spending $100 for McKenna, would get 5 handles of Kentucky Gentleman @ $17 each and spend the change on aspirin and Wawa Sizzlis
Some of the prices are outrageous but once I like something, unfortunately, I just buy what I like. I assume that is the market they are after. I know a rip off price when I see one but most times I just get what I want, unless it's so unreasonable, (within 20% of what I really really want) then I just pony up. Nice selection up there nonetheless. Thanks for sharing.

I’ll pass on this Saturday, but thanks for the offer!
Now, if you are slated to come to the BBQ, then I’m down.
Quoted from Jgel:That McKenna price is stupid.
It was here local for $39 a bottle. The guy was keeping it behind the counter though.
The thought of combining these two things (hobbies? passions?) has me in stitches. Not a bad idea I suppose but it would have never occurred to me. Maybe craft brew pinball could be something too.

Quoted from Chisox:Got lucky and stumbled on these at a liquor store by the train station today. Donating the W12 and Elmer to a buddies charity auction and drinking the shit out of the Knob Creek Rye LE.[quoted image]
Wow!! Standup guy donating those now so hard to find bottles to the charity.
Also, never had Knob Creek rye in any proof but love me some rye so my hiatus on buying whisky may be over.

The Limited Edition Cask Strength Rye 9 yr is awesome. The barrelled in 2010 (2019 batch)is out now and is somewhat “easy” to find. This is last year’s batch that I thought was all gone that the guy was selling $20 under retail just to get rid of it.

Son of a bitch you are living in the land of Weller12 up there. Apparently it just flows from the water taps and is plentiful. I haven't even seen that bottle at any of the places I stop in at.

It’s been a couple years since I’ve seen it. I was stunned when I saw it sitting there next to the Elmer and Blanton’s. I went in to grab some beer ironically and just glanced over to the bourbon section walking by. Funny thing is I got home and realized I’d forgotten the beer.

Sweet. Never tried one but I heard the Elmer's is only released once a year?
Quoted from PinDeLaPin:Yep I agree. Always have at least one bottle of it on hand as well. Price keeps creeping higher and higher towards that $100 mark as well at least around here anyways.[quoted image]
Must be because the Blues won the cup and heavy drinkers now, ahahahha, nice Pepsi can Congrats

Oh heck yes all we're looking for here in St Louis is just yet one more reason to drink.
This was the selection at the local Costco today. The buffalo trace and eagle rare were limited to one per customer. I bought one of each. Went by the area one more time before leaving and the eagle rare was gone. That didn’t take long.

Real good price on that elijah craig and that blood oath is $15 cheaper than I can get it.

Going to have to stop on the way home. We'll see if the Germantown Costco has the same selection.
Had to make a run to the local liquor store for beer. I haven’t tried either of these and frankly I’ve never seen them on the shelf at the places I go. Picked up these two. The statesman was $53 and the colonel Taylor was $39. That seemed like fair prices.

Wow those are 2 really good prices. Taylor small batch goes for $48 and statesman goes for $65. Report back on how that statesman is i've been wanting to try that one.
Ok so I’ve tried all 3 and my favorite of the group was the statesman. I’m not one that can describe flavors and smells on the nose, palate and finish but I know what I like and it was the best of the 3. At 100 proof it didn’t have an overpowering alcohol smell and it did t have much of a burn, which was fine with me. I did read online that statesman uses more of a rye type mashbill, which I thought I noted, which would be a negative for me as I don’t really care for ryes. So, take that for what it’s worth. I liked them all but I’d drink the statesman first.
Quoted from egyptrus:kcz I hope your Costco got a batch of bourbon like mine did.
It did not
Quoted from kcZ:It did not
Sorry to hear that. I think I got lucky today going when I did. I'm guessing they didn't get a lot of the eagle rare. When I grabbed mine there were 4 on the shelf. They had a few more of the buffalo trace but it was still pretty limited. I'm wondering if your local costco also got an 'allotment' but it was gone before you got there.

Eagle rare must have been sent out in a huge quantity the last month or so. I picked up 3 bottles at Sams club a couple weeks ago at $29 a bottle and thought I got a steal. You scoring them for $24 a bottle is a freaking fantastic score.

I check the Germantown Costco quite regularly and they have never had anything different. Maybe time to switch things up to Pewaukee.
Quoted from Jackontherocks:Bought this one last night at my Total Wine store recommendation from employee. I will let you know cost $49.99 we shall see.[quoted image]
$50 for a 12 year singlr bartel sounds too good to be true but let us know how it is.
