    Nice bar buddy!

Thank you. Built the 1st half about a year ago and then the wifey wanted more room for party platters and whatnot so i did the extention out about 4 months ago.. used to be a star trek pro there! It goes good with Roger Sharps "shot" rendering!

Hey, I thought I drank more of your BT the other night than that, I must be getting old!
I almost hate to say it because I don't want even more people buying it all when it's available but if you've not tried the 12 y/o W.L. Weller you are missing out. I have one bottle of 15 y/o Pappy and I will have to disagree with those of you that say it's not in the top 10, definitely in the top 5 of anything I've ever had.

We went through about half that bottle! I hit the prohibition forrester and rare breed a bit!

I like a nice neat snifter glass of Bulleit bourbon. Smooth. Anyone else try?

I used to enjoy Bulleit rye, but have stayed away from it for a while as it started to give me headaches. Kind of weird how certain bourbons (such as Makers Mark) and ryes seem to do that.

The latest lower priced bourbon that I've tried, after it won It's Bourbon Night's top pick in their blind flight competition of 50 various "under $25" bourbons, and can recommend:

Because this isn't primarily a bourbon or whiskey forum, I feel my secret is safe here-I scored six bottles of Old Weller Antique at retail yesterday. I may have to go get a case Friday if they have any left!

Brother-in-law came for a visit long distance and brought a bottle of Woodford Reserve. We killed it together while playing pinball. He collects the Kentucky Derby commemorative versions.

Pinball & bourbon make a great pair. Both end-of-the-night hobbies for me. Still a lot to learn about both

My go to's (on the rocks):

    Bulleit
    Four Roses
    New Holland Beer Barrell Bourbon
    IMG_3638 (resized).JPGIMG_3638 (resized).JPG

    Special (neat):

    Bulletin 10-year
    Eagle Rare
    Four Roses Single Barrel
    Angel's Envy
    Etc

I'll have a Manhattan or a Kentucky Mule occasion. This one my wife made for me the other day was the bomb...

And one of the most distinctive bourbon bottles that you'll find that also happens to make the COOLEST pouring sound!

I love Blantons. Make sure you check those horse toppers for the letters to spell BLANTONS. I've heard the S is rare.

I've got them all twice over. It doesn't seem that any one letter is particularly hard to find. I've also got the stave to display them...bought it directly from the Buffalo Trace Distillery.

Cool thread, here's my American whisky cabinet currently. I stopped all whisky purchases for awhile now, but it is always a thrill to find that bottle you are after. My favorites are the cask strength releases, the higher proof brings so much flavor with it. I prefer to sip it neat at this point, but a little water or an ice cube is just fine by me.

swillie When I first joined Pinside I thought everyone being able to tell/recognize so much stuff from photos was crazy or exceptionally eagle eyed...I'm still trying with pinball, but what Willett Family Reserve is that? Looks like you have some Thomas H Handy and the old style bottle/label OWA 107. More intriguing is the company that Booker's is keeping with Van Winkle 15? and Lot B or Rye? Either way, very nice collection. I've also cut back on the bourbon hunting this year, it's gotten crazy.

    #130 6 years ago

vaevictis good rye, I mean good eye
Willet Family Estate Straight Rye, cask strength 2 year old. Hiding behind it is Willet Family Estate Single Barrel Bourbon, 11 year old and bottle is signed by the master distiller himself.
Two bottles of Thomas Handy Rye, just amazing stuff that makes you say "wow" every time. Has gotten too rich for my blood so I sip it rarely.
Can't go wrong with OWA 107, although the 12 year is a smoother pour if you can find it, and at a normal price.
That is Pappy Van Winkle 15, and Lot B. I scored those two at msrp ($79, $59) in 2012 if you can believe it. My wife found the place, made the call and I won the lotto of bourbon hunting that year. The Lot B is so tasty I can't imagine how good the 15 is, my wife won't let me open it!! She wants me to sell it, and I considered it for a moment...Nope. I have set the date, March 31 2022...my son turns 21 and we are opening it dammit. Lol.

Great bottles there! I would enjoy getting to know a few better

My collection is rather ordinary compared to those.

Goronic Great looking bar, very classy. Every bottle you have is a winner. I've wanted to try Angels Envy but haven't had the opportunity. Same with Aberlour 12, but I have the Aberlour Abunadh and it is fantastic. Makers, Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare are all great goto bourbons, Sazerac is nice and spicy. Good stuff man.

    #133 6 years ago

swillie That's a sweet collection. In the last few years I've gotten a bottle each of William Larue Weller, George T Stagg, and a Thomas H. Handy. I scored a Four Roses Small Batch LE two years ago (Jim Rutledge's last). I haven't found the occasion to open any of them yet... I have found and enjoyed some Willett Family Reserve 8 year rye and got in on the EH Taylor Four Grain earlier this spring. Still have half a bottle of the Four Grain and a full bottle out of the three 8 year ryes that I got. I've been in bunker mode for pretty much the last year. My daily sippers are the likes of Evan Williams BiB, Rittenhouse, or Turkey 101. As a matter of fact, I was just telling a bourbon buddy this weekend that I was pretty much not going to be hunting this fall. Not three hours ago, I got a call from a liquor store a couple of counties over that I have a relationship with offering me either a Thomas H Handy or Van Winkle Lot B....at retail?!? Just when you think you're out, they pull you back in. Needless to say, I choose the Lot B. Hopped in the car right quick, hit the ATM and got there quick as I could. Miracles can still happen and I'll be raising my glass to you and your kid come March 31, 2022. Wishing good mojo to any Pinsiders on the hunt this fall.

    congrats!

I too am a bit bummed with the popularity that fall hunting is pretty much over.

The main liquor store now holds back everything and does a black friday sale. People line up on Wednesday and camp out till Friday at 8am. Sorry but family time is way more important and that means no special stuff for me besides the few places I have a relationship with that ocassionally hook me up.

    #135 6 years ago

Yes congrats on the Lot B! That's a great whisky, and a great relationship you have with the local retailer. I got a call like that 2 years ago, it was the Thomas Handy only and I snapped it up. It really is my favorite whisky of them all. It's the only BTAC I've managed to find and I too have stopped looking. The places that used to hook me up don't even take names now, others price it out of reach. William Larue Weller is a bucket list bottle for me. Maybe one day I'll get lucky but you kinda gotta make your luck with this stuff and I lost the energy for it. I'm content with my collection for now. Some of the cheaper bourbons are great sippers. Along with Scotch, Japanese, Irish whisky and a few tequilas I'm not going to run out anytime soon. I have more closed bottles than open. Guess you could say I have a drinking problem...I bought the bottles way way faster than I could ever drink them.
