I guess I better join the party. Thanks beergut666 for the recommendation!
Edit: Is it ok to be drinking and working on my basement electrical at the same time? I wasn’t drinking till I checked in on this thread and it made me thirsty...

I just realized that for the first time in forever I don’t have a bottle of Pikesville on my shelf. Probably the best readily available rye there is and puts a lot of the allocated and $100 ryes to shame, and I’m pissed that I can’t pour one on Ryeday the 13th.

Hell yeah! We will do it the right way and go watch the Wednesday night races and then go eat at the Boatyard with the sailors afterwards. Check out the footage at the link below. It is an absolute trip!

Glad you like it. It’s pretty cool how they do this. They have 2 people on the film boat doing everything in real time. The captain is a lady who drives the boat and commentates. The camera man films with a camera and a drone and edits the footage on the camera as they go. Within about 30 minutes of the end of the races they have the footage delivered to the Boatyard and the Yacht Club ready to watch. We won an auction last year to be on the film boat and it was so much fun.

As for the races themselves on a typical night you get about 115 boats in the races and about half to the same amount watching. Some of the boats have the same crews and are very competitive in nature where others you can bring beer and hop on. It is a local social thing for the women to get on certain all women’s boats and they have their own races sometimes that get very competitive. It can be a status thing.

Half the time I don’t know what I am watching but it sure is fun!

Race 1 series 1 video, I believe 7 vids down,
-dog house for the win? Couldn't quite hear.
Also sail 51 savage move to cut off the other 2 boats! Right on! My question is; why does not 1 skiff have a black pirate flag?? If I lived there I would definitely participate and have a black pirate flag.

Doghouse is the name of a boat up here. You see plenty Jolly Rogers flags around here, and there is a pirate ship that gives tourist rides

I didn’t buy it for myself. But I had some coworkers discussing bourbon and told them that my local store had single barrel BT for sale - which they’re so “bourbon smart” but had never heard of a store pick barrel so they were amazed at this single barrel BT. So I bought a few bottles and passed them along for what I paid for which was $30 a bottle after tax. I remember buying W12 for this price just a few years back. They are asking for more and I’m just crying missing the good ol’ days of $12 Weller SR fifths

Fantastic. I wish we could do the same thing on my lake but mostly filled with camo bassboats

I’m pretty sure dog house Won one of the races I watched

Got back from a vacation and found my lovely Secret Santa package waiting for me! I went ahead and opened it because I am impatient and wanted to know what was in there, but I am going to say it was because my birthday was a few days ago and it makes an awesome birthday present.

Thanks Santa! I will definitely enjoy sampling these (I will wait until the stream to do so though)! And Hilton might end up getting some as well. Haha.

We of course perused the local liquor stores and made a few new acquisitions on our trip. Looking forward to sampling these as well during this “Winter of Isolation”

As you can see, we made a good dent in the Cream of Kentucky, which we found to be an amazing bourbon (and can’t get here in Wisconsin)

It is for my money. Top 2 at least, 2015 WLW was incredible too.

    #9775 3 years ago

Me: Ok, no new bottles this week. You have enough.

Also me: Take all my money!

This purchase was totally justifiable. I was down to about 1/3 of my bottle of EHT Rye and it has been ages since I've ran across more.

I think the last two bottles should be delivered this week to Hilton and @jgel. As soon as I get notification that bottles are received we can get it on the books.

Is there anybody that has not received their shipment?

    #9779 3 years ago

Hilton asked me to post his bottle and thank his Santa. I think we are down to one bottle.

    Bourbon exchange folks:

It looks like all the packages have been delivered! Woohoo! For those that would like to hop on a Zoom to celebrate and wish each other cheer, here are candidate dates:

    This Saturday
    Next Saturday
    Dec 11
    Dec 18

What are folks preferences? Hilton suggests next Saturday, which I am fine with.

If you want to tear into your packages now or not hop on Zoom, have at it. Also, feel free to hop on the Zoom whenever it is schedule even if you were not in the exchange. The more, the merrier.

    #9782 3 years ago

I’m good for next week. Haven’t opened my package yet, waiting for the Zoom.

Moving to the middle shelves as my tastebuds slowly come back. I usually like this but ever since I saw it’s now $60 (!) msrp (fuck off!) it’s not tasting that great. Happy Whiskey Wednesday all (not you Heaven Hill!).

I do enjoy that bottle but definitely not at $60. I had a shop that had it for $45 or $49 which I didn't think was bad considering everyone has raised prices pretty much across the board.

As you probably remember, it used to be a 6 yr BIB a few years ago and was $15-$20. They aged it another year, designed a new label and priced it at $40-$45 last year. Pretty shitty but I get it, it was grossly underpriced at $15. $60 is just stupid, and that’s at Binny’s. I can imagine some smaller shops asking even more than that.

    #9795 3 years ago

Enough about that pour. Here’s a bottle I got for $10 cheaper that’s probably 3 years older and destroys that last turd. Love the color on most of these RR picks.

well, that’s up in the air because of the covid shutdowns. We have like 5 distilleries planned, but we’ll just have to wait and see this weekend.

    #9797 3 years ago

Woooh! The reviews were right, this bottle is tremendous! It reminds me of Bomberger’s but on roids. Delicious cherry and leather with weird delicious oaky funk on the finish that’s the perfect amount of wood for days. Best new whiskey I’ve had this year!
