It’s nice having bourbon friends all over the country it allows us to get our hands on stuff we can’t normally get without traveling

Just goes to show how many people are fixated on a brand name and won't try it. I have my buddy buy me 2 to 3 bottles everytime he goes down south. It is a super solid drinker IMO.

    I have one back up!

I was pleasantly surprised at how good that ET BiB was when I had the sample. I hadn’t had it in forever, good stuff.

Grabbed a new 10 year Elijah Craig store pick, and the only bottle of Bourbon Cream I've seen in almost a year. Also needed a bottle of Fernet Branca and was happy to see it in a gift pack with these cool shot glasses.

How does it compare to Cream of Kentucky?

I’ve only had CoK once, wait that doesn’t look right haha. (weak joke)- I had batch 1 of Cream Of Kentucky and was somewhat let down as I’m a big Jim Rutledge fan. It was decent but I have high expectations from him, especially for $159. I’ve heard better things about batch 2 though.

Well my friend with the WLW Hazmat sold it, and sent me a sample pack instead. Hope to start on this tonight. Anyone guess what these are? What order should I drink them in?

    2016 EH Taylor Single Barrel
    2018 George T Stagg
    2018 Michter's 10 ?
1991 Wild Turkey "Cheesy Gold Foil"
    ?

I would probably break this up over 2 sessions so you dont blow out your tastebuds. Honestly, I would do the GTS and the WT last in each section due to strength (GTS) and rarity (WT CGF). Would probably do the EHT with the GTS as they are both BT products, do the Michter 10 with the WT, and put the last bottle with something else. This is where you need somebody with a better palate than me. Paging Chisox .

Should have put 2 and 2 together. As the local BT contrarian I am not as familiar with their acronyms. You are in for a good night!

Which one(s) are you most looking forward to?

    #9730 3 years ago

Happy Ryeday the 13th! Enter to win the equivalent of a barrel of Sagamore Rye below. After COVID, will have to go to Baltimore to check it all out.

The George T Stagg and CGF Wild Turkey for sure. Those seem like the hardest to find for me at least. The Weller Full Proof might be a find for me, so I have high hopes for it. Thanks for asking.

Nice flight! That WT CGF is amazing (!!!) and GTS 2018 is my GOAT. Like Matt said you could do the BT progression low proof to high (my preference) so EHT, WFP, GTS. Personally, I would split the CGF and GTS into different days because those are two of the greatest pours (for my money) in the bourbon universe and should be savored separately. There is no wrong way of doing it (other than drinking the big two when you’re already trashed) and that’s a very nice set of pours your buddy set you up with. Cheers!

Only two more adds for the shelf this week. The EC store pick was generously sent by @pindelapin, his guy really does have a fantastic pallet (palette?) picking barrels. The Lux Row I’ve been on the hunt for for 2 years now (available only in Ky) since I read some glowing reviews that sounded fantastic. The fact that I found the 2018 was icing on the cake. Now I only need to find a Michter’s Toasted Rye and I’ll be done buying whiskey (lol). Cheers!

How is your sniffer working now John? We had a guy at work with positive Covid test today. No one wears a mask at my work but me..... I wear a N95 so I’ll see how that worked for me

3:22 EST. I delayed posting it a bit but sent it to Hilton then. As soon as I am done helping my daughter with her science fair project (making different polymers to see which ones biodegrade faster) Rye Day the 13th is back on!

I’m at about 50% taste and about 20% smell. I’m drinking a hazy IPA that I know is delicious but all I can taste is the bitterness, so that kinda sucks haha. The last thing I want to do is turn this into a Covid thread but just want to say be smart and safe all. We all know someone who tested positive and shrugged it off (my kids) but it can whoop your ass a bit (me and my wife). Happy weekend y’all. I may be posting once or twice more tonight since I’ve decided to take off the governor and let it rip.

If you are at 50% taste you should be crushing 24oz cans of Steel Reserve and firing back shots of Malort. Save those hazy's for when you can enjoy them!

50% of the taste of malort it still 100% like drinking my son’s wrung out sock sweat after two-a-days in July. And I’ll drink anything. Here’s a rye I haven’t poured in ages.

Well done sir! I played last Saturday, probably my last round of the year, and played my best golf of the year (of course). I too took a bunch of years off due to coaching my son’s travel baseball team and forgot how fun it is to go out with three of your buddies to drink and fuck around in golf carts like a bunch of 12 year olds. The golf is fun too (sometimes).

I don't normally start drinking this early, but I feel I have to defend the honor of Malort!

Well that's what you get for living in Illinois! (ok all the good bourbon too...)

Tee time next Thursday, 58 deg and sunny.

When life returns to normal (2025?) I’d love to do a Pinside bourbon club getaway in Kentucky for some bourbon trail, golf, and ...well we can fill in the blanks later. This is of course the year after we all get crabs in Maryland at Matt’s.

I guess I better join the party. Thanks beergut666 for the recommendation!
Edit: Is it ok to be drinking and working on my basement electrical at the same time? I wasn’t drinking till I checked in on this thread and it made me thirsty...
