    Tasting this now

    Quoted from nighttaco:

Any suggestions on a not expensive smoky whiskey? I like a good smoke flavor but I'm not wanting to pony up stupid money for a bottle of something fancy....

Kinda depends on what you consider "not expensive." For bottles around $50 I'd go with Ardberg 10 year. Spend another $30 and you can get a bottle of Lagavulin 16. Both of those bottles are smoky beasts.

This is my KY haul.... not real exciting but I only stopped once for a look.

Had a few rough weeks. I lost my brother on the 7th then tested positive for COVID the following week. Finally just getting back to work and still waiting on my taste/smell to come back 100%. Good news is a friend brought these back from TN for me. Thanks for the recommendations, Don!

Damn man, sorry to hear it. I’m sure I speak for all of us when I extend our deepest condolences from the Pinside Bourbon group. Cheers to your brother and your return to good health.

Oh no! So sorry! I don’t want to get too deep on pinside but there is going to be a resurrection of our loved ones who have passed.

I will admit, I figured this would be overrated. It is very tasty like candy. Coats your mouth with goodness.

At 96 proof, it has no heat.

At $119, it is on the higher end but I'd buy another.

Damn, I’m not going to quote all of your posts but thanks for all the love! Didn’t mean to bring this thread down. My bro was 35 and never took care of himself but he had the biggest heart and was the funniest guy I knew. He also was a huge pinball fan and was ranked with the IFPA. Ironically, this image was the last thing he ever texted me.

A few things come to mind from this:
    1. Make sure sure everyone you know knows you care about them. Life is too short and you never know when it will be the last time you’ll see someone.
    2. The bourbon thread is the best thread on Pinside.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled bourbon pouring...

I’ve had my two best friends pass away since I’ve been part of this community and these guys are better support than some of my offline friends. You never have to worry about bringing us down. You’d be surprised where the best support comes from, sometimes these (we) goofballs will say exactly what you need to hear. Cheers and amen to both 1. and 2.

Anyone tried this yet? [quoted image]

I tried this one per Total Wine recommendation, did not think much of it, too light and not worth it but only $36.99 at my Total wine store. My bottle almost gone so maybe can revisit my taste on last pour but just tried to finish through. Its just not memorable for me.

How do you know that's not your Swedish Suction Machine (or whatever the line from Airplane is)?

    #9323 42 days ago

Ok so I guess I’m the first person to open my secret santa. I received 4 bourbon related packages and was really confused by #4. We did a Rossville private barrel pick at my bourbon club that is coming in next week that just added to the confusion. Then I remembered the PM from Matt and here we are. Anyhoo frick yeah santa! An MGP store pick rye is always a winner, I appreciate you finding me a killer rye! Cheers!

So looks like tonight is a no go for the tasting. Not sure when the next date we can all get together for this will be so it may be sitting around a while. I will be out of town nxt weekend and the following 2 weekends which would put us at nov 21st which is dumb. Instead of waiting a month why don't you guys just crack them open and try them now. You can just post if you like any of them or if you think they all taste like squirrel piss.
